Chris Jericho Responds To His Indefinite Suspension From WWE

The official WWE website has posted the following comments from Chris Jericho, coming after his indefinite suspension for desecrating a Brazilian flag at a WWE live event:

“I made a bad judgment call in the course of entertaining WWE fans in Brazil. I apologized to the people in the crowd for showing disrespect.”

“It was a bad move. I did it with [our] fans’ entertainment in mind and I’ll accept the consequences for that.”

Jericho also had the following to say on his Twitter account:

I was there and had seen the scene. It was clear to all the people there that he did it only for entreitenment. of course that that was an inconsequent act to kick the flag, but for sure that was not did with the intention to denigrate our country (Brazil).

But laws are laws and must be followed.

I was a great night, and others superstars had also tried to (and did put) the Brazilian crowned in fire talking dirty to us (my congrats to The Miz who had spoke in Portuguese – a very well move).

The incident was nothing and for sure we had forgiven Jericho. Actually we appologize to him for the incident. We who were there know your intentions and congratulating you for given us all you have last night.

Personally, I hope that you WWE superstars had enjoyed our country and hope to see you very soon.

Spoken with reason, honesty, and a level head. Well said, sir.

Not that I want to condemn Jericho for what happened out there… But does anyone recall why Finlay isn't around? Don't mess with a countries pride and patriotism, it only gets your ass handed to you. Sucks for Jericho and I do hope that this all gets smoothed over eventually.

It was at a live event before WrestleMania XXVII. The National Anthem was interrupted by The Miz's entrance theme…and there happened to be people from the National Guard in attendance.

That was a call that Dave Finlay made when he was taking charge of the show as a WWE producer (The producer run the live events) and Finlay got released because of it and was out of WWE for quite some time before quietly being brought back. There are a lot of ex-wrestlers who are keen to continue on as producers but a limited number of producer spots – so those that want them have to be quite careful about how they conduct themselves.

Brought back? I thought he was still in ROH?

Shawn Michaels and the Canada flag was much worse

  • quiknkold

    he'll be back
I mean, remember Shawn Michaels sticking the Canadian flag in his nose? Nothing happened. This happened cause it was the heat of the moment and involved police.
Jericho did nothing wrong in terms of Pro Wrestling. Theres been a LOT worse than what he did. Its just like Daniel Bryan and the Tie. He'll be back by Summerslam if he isnt busy.

We don't have any laws against desecrating a flag in Canada. Brazil does. Regardless of how you feel about flag desecration, the WWE were guests in Brazil and therefore had to abide by their laws.

This has to be an excuse for Jericho to take a break for Fozzy. I mean, WWE gave JBL the belt after he goose-stepped and threw up the Nazi salute while IN Germany.

  • Philip Thompson

He was playing the heel and he made a bad judgement call and crossed a line – WWE will obviously need to judge the level of offense that's been caused, do some damage limitation (along with Chris) and then judge a suspension based on that. The fact that he's wanting to take time out of WWE again means that if he's released it wouldn't be the biggest problem – and then he can come back again at some point… although I'm sure they'll attempt not to be too transparent with that.

I by no way am I trying to defend Jericho but has WWE even seen the Monteal Screwjob. I mean they always talk about the end but have they seen what Shawn did to the Canadien flag. Up the nose. Lew his nose. Dried huped it. Wiped himself w/ it and nothing happened. I mean I understand it’s different times but bad call. WWE

  • Adam O’Brien

I remember a Raw show here in Dublin a good few years ago, when Kurt Angle blew his nose in the Irish flag.
It’s just to garner heat. We didn’t feel like he should be arrested. Then again, it isn’t a law here.

It also happens to be against the law to desecrate the American flag, yet on many occasions heels have done just that. Flag desecration is a classic heel move. I am so tired of ass clowns overreacting to something done in wrestling but make no complaints when Hollywood does similar things. Grow up people. Like scripted TV shows and movies, wrestling is a show. Heels do bad things and even are bullies, but it is part of the overall story where the face usually comes out on top.

Umm it could be a total setup… Seeing as Chris Jericho's band Fozzy is going on tour with the Rockstar Uproar Tour in a couple weeks?? Lol
