Comparing Vince To Mr. McMahon, Booking Christian In WWE, Success Of Raw 1000, Brock Lesnar Title Reign?

Shares 0

How is Vince McMahon's real-life persona in relation to the Mr. McMahon character played on WWE television?

Mr. McMahon, like most successful gimmicks, is Vince's real-life persona "turned all the way up." Vince is a very intimidating guy but perhaps the biggest difference between him and his on-air character is that Mr. McMahon comes off as very unapproachable. While Vince has the final say on everything in WWE, he's willing to meet with talent (especially workers he feels have the potential to become top guys) when they have ideas or want to discuss their characters. Chris Jericho makes note of this in his latest "Undisputed" autobiography when he was trying to get his first break in WWE. For those that want a detailed prospective of how things function backstage, I recommend both of Chris Jericho's books and Bret Hart's book.

With Christian dropping the WWE Intercontinental Championship to The Miz is this a sign he's designed to hover as a mid-card talent again?

Christian hasn't been booked in the top of the card since returning to WWE at Over the Limit back in May although he's held the WWE Intercontinental Championship and had a consistent spot on television (a role many would love to have). I can't give you the exact reasoning for the booking of Christian although it's no secret Vince McMahon has always been hesitant on him as a top guy. I heard Christian wasn't thrilled about being the WWE star to appear at TNA Slammiversary either, with the risk of it damaging the booking of his character as well.

What is your reaction to the WWE Raw 1000 rating?

The 1000th episode of WWE Raw was the most-watched episode of WWE Raw since the show’s return to the USA Network in 2005 and the highest viewership in 10 years. The company is ecstatic at the viewing audience of over 6.3 million and made sure to tout the success in a press release. Even the harshest critics can be silenced with this number that exceeded any and all expectations.

Do you see Brock Lesnar getting a run as either WWE or World Heavyweight Champion before his deal is up?

Everyone wants a program with Brock Lesnar because of the fact that Lesnar draws, however, given his limited schedule, I would be opposed of a Lesnar title reign. People are already upset at the possibility of The Rock going over for the title at Royal Rumble and should be considering he's not a full-time talent nor will he ever be. Vince McMahon used to be pretty firm that he would not allow someone to come back only to work limited dates but has bent in recent years in order to grow viewership, improve ratings and draw pay-per-view buys.

No doubt the part time comebacks are huge draws. Thinking about it further, The Rock winning the title WOULD be awesome because it would give a certain huge number of people (who only tune in when he's back) reason to tune in more. Think of all the Hollywood PR it would get, too. Maybe it will tarnish the prestige of the title for those who are there every day of the year, but right now, ratings mean more than emotions.

Won’t be as bad as WCW giving the title to David Arquette, at least this actor can actually work.

      • Ted Turner

Let’s all remember WCW from mid 96 to early 98. Too bad they don’t have DVDs out to cover all of that glorious time for WCW.

Correction, Richard. WWE RAW got higher than a 3.8 rating on several occasions, like a 5.0 for RAW Family Reunion on 9 October 2006, 4.4 RAW XXV Anniversary on 10 December 2007 and a 4.5 rating for Trump RAW on 22 June 2009.

However, in 2012, this week’s 3.8 rating is impressive.

Only looking at viewership, not the ratings.

      • Da KiDD

Yeah but higher share ratings equals higher viewership.

      • Nathen

What separates the two? I assumed higher viewership would equal higher ratings.

        • Autista

Feel free to correct me if I am wrong:

Ratings is the percentage of total viewers.

Viewership is the actual number of viewers watching.

Christian has everything to be a main eventer I dont get why Vince doesnt want to get behind him. He has the wrestling skills and he's a good on the mic but instead they decide to let Miz take the IC title off of him a guy who hasnt done anything in months and cant wrestle at all.

    • Logan_Walker

Well I Guessed that the main reason behind that was he just Shot a WWE Produced Movie so vince is glad to have him in it to draw what limited numbers the Straight-To-DVD or Cinematic Views get + he has been out for months so bring him back keep him on what people are talking about.

    • George Takei

Christian is soo bland on the pipe bomb. The Miz can actually portray excitement. I am glad he won the IC belt. This makes him the most must see Intercontinental Champion in WWE history. Though the belt really belongs in front of Cody Rhodes' package.

    • Bill Clinton

This would have never happened if only a few more people would have voted for the Divas title match

    • Ellen

      three letters, TNA.

  • Jaryd

Richard, do you know if there's a possibility that if Rock went over at Royal Rumble that he'd be a full time talent for the road to Wrestlemania or would it be a case of WWE letting there be only one major championship being contested for a couple of months in exchange for Rock taking the belt round with him and giving WWE plenty of mainstream exposure for it?

  • Fred

Dolph Ziggler should win the world heavyweight title now!! He is the best in WWE at the moment!!

  • Matt Scott

I think the “Lesnar draws” line has become an ongoing joke now.

  • CynIsIn

Guys like The Rock and Brock Lesnar challenging for the WWE Title, is a great thing, it underscores the importance of the championship. The Rock and Brock Lesnar winning the WWE Title, is a mistake, because they are not full-time its a slap in the face to the guys that bust their ass all year long, and their not gonna come back full-time, unless they need to; if the Undertaker won the WWE Championship, he’d come back and be there every week, every night and be there for everybody.

  • Miles

Anyone should win a title, they don’t mean anything anymore

    • Kleck

I say to stop judging wrestlers by what title they hold or held in the past. Judge by ring work (mic and ring ability)

  • lokulosun

Dolph Ziggler is the new HBK!!!

    • Herman Tank

Nobody is or will ever be the new HBK.

  • Einar

Brock Lesnar will be champion going into the Royal Rumble and loose to the rock with a rematch at Wrestlemania. And the match will be a triple threat match with John Cena. And Cena will win.

  • William Shatner

Christian would always have been the obvious choice to do the TNA talent exchange thing. The only other real choice would have been R-Truth, but Christian has the higher profile in both companies.

    • Hardy

Well there’s a few, r-truth, booker t, Nash. They have all been there and for a while, personally would of had Nash do it.

  • British bulldog

Richard is there any truth in the CM punk and NWO rumour?? I’ve seen a few on the net, and with nash’s tweets it looks like this is the way forward

  • Evon Reese

Ziggler ,Punk and Bryan may be the best WWE has to offer after Cena and Orton. That's the reason the Rock, Lesnar and Jericho are needed. The best is NOT what the best used to be.

  • Kevin

Here's what I see happening: Due to Show's interference, the Punk/Cena match for the title on MNR was thrown out. Since he neither won nor lost, and the match was stopped due to outside interference, Cena will get his briefcase back. At the Royal Rumble, after a grueling 30 minute match, The Rock will go over Punk and win the belt. Now that Punk is apparently a heel, he'll be pissed off and hit a tired Rock with the GTS. Cena will seize the opportunity and cash in his contract to pin the Rock and take the belt. At some point down the road, maybe even on the following MNR, Punk will cash in his rematch clause and win the belt back again. That way, everyone wins: The Rock gets another title run (albeit a very brief one, perhaps even briefer than the Big Show's last one), Cena gets another title run, and eventually Punk gets his title back.
