HARTFORD, Conn. (AP) — A Connecticut newspaper claims wrestling company WWE Inc. violated federal election laws by illegally helping former chief executive Linda McMahon's U.S. Senate campaign when it threatened a lawsuit against the newspaper two weeks ago.

The Journal Inquirer of Manchester filed a complaint with the Federal Election Commission last week, saying Stamford-based WWE rendered illegal corporate assistance to McMahon's campaign.

The newspaper reports that a WWE senior vice president, Brian Flinn, accused the paper of libel and threatened legal action for two opinion columns written this year by Managing Editor Chris Powell. Powell asserted that McMahon created her fortune from the business of pornography and violence, but didn't specifically mention WWE.

WWE officials didn't immediately return a message Monday. Flinn told the newspaper there is no merit to its FEC complaint.

"Powell asserted that McMahon created her fortune from the business of pornography and violence…"

Pornography? I don't know where to begin so I won't. Quite simply Mr. Powell is an ignorant idiot.

WWE suing a newspaper dude for slandering Vince & Linda is what you call damaging a reputation. WWE is Wrestling/Entertainment. But a company Vince is suing this guy for bad publicity. I think Vince should sue this guy

Let's see…the newspaper can make whatever claims they want to because of freedom of the press but WWE can't defend itself with freedom of speech and freedom of expression? Linda made her money herself through being an entrepreneur and hard work. Ok so it was with WWE…her own family business! Where did WWE ever help Linda with her campaign in the article? They never endorse her for anything! Yes she was CEO but she left the company! Forget Linda's campaign for a minute. If I was a "well informed reporter" (sarcasm) I'd research what I'm reporting on a little further. Sure WWE did some off color things back in the past but thats exactly what it is…the past! I get so tired of liberals smearing conservatives. But its ok that our own president and his band of thugs continue to blame the countries problems on a man who hasn't even been in office in almost four years! Liberals will use the past to destroy conservatives. They sometimes use their own past for personal gain. If its a bad past they either don't want it brought up or when it is exposed they just want to blow it off! As far as the remark of WWE being almost porn by the reporter, he obviously has never seen true porn. The USA network in my belief would have never allowed WWE programming (TV14, PG, or otherwise) on its channel had it thought it was porn. These reporters are just plain misinformed, dumb, as well as one sided!

Personally I feel that she should just quit. The fact that she is a part of wrestling family, and being of the McMahon family won’t get her in.
