Crowd Backlash Over CM Punk’s Departure At NXT Tapings?

There’s a lot being made of the crowd reactions at Thursday night’s WWE NXT tapings from the campus of Full Sail University in Winter Park, Florida following the current situation with CM Punk walking out on WWE. I spoke with Wrestling News World’s Scott Brooks, who was in attendance at the tapings, about the situation on Friday afternoon and here’s what he told me:

Backlash over CM Punk was evident at the taping with a handful of signs being confiscated. The name “CM Punk” was chanted throughout the majority of the show, with fans showing their support “in protest.”

Scott told me there was nothing overly notable in terms of a show disruption, just at times a couple of Punk chants would breakout during the matches.

I was told it was nothing like the reactions that broke out for Daniel Bryan during the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match between Randy Orton and John Cena at Royal Rumble last Sunday.

it couldnt be anything like what happened at the console energy center because they wrestle in a glorified gym at NXT, don’t they?

  • jdl

Of course it was nothing like what happened in a center that holds thousands as opposed to the hundreds you can fit in the location they record NXT. I’m sorry, but to even compare the two is ridiculous.

Funny how crowd is chanting CM Punk when crowds chants at RR helped a bit. See if Sunday didn’t go the way it did. Vince and them wouldn’t feel the need to try to give something big to Bryan. So they take Punk’s match away from him setting him off further to where he walks out. So now WWE is figuring how to get Punk back

    • LeBron James

WWE doesn’t need CM Punk, nor should they cater to him. He had his run and he should be thankful for it

      • Patrick

oh come now are you going to be happy all the time at your job? and just not say a word if something happens you don’t agree with or bring up any concerns you might have regardless if it effects you or others you work with.

Hey John Cena, how ya doing?

  • Charles

When Steve Austin “took his ball and went home” before an episode of RAW they let everyone know about it all during the show.

The way they never really mentioned Punks name on RAW makes them look kind of at fault and when a live audience disapproves something they are going to voice it.

    • Danny_Boy

Why would RAW bother bringing up a wrestler who’s become pretty irrelevant for the most part? Punk is nowhere near Austin’s level, that’s why it want worth bringing up. If someone like Cena, Taker, Bryan or Triple H decides too walk out then they probably would of brought it up.

      • Charles

Wow… CM Punk certainly has a lot of haters.
He entered the Rumble first, lasted the longest and was screwed out of a victory in the end.
But the day after the PPV he is so irrelevant surely no one would notice one of the top stories of the 2014 Royal Rumble was never even brought up.
Like the guy or not people don’t ever chant Drew McIntyre.
They chant CM Punk because obviously he is very relevant.

        • Mysterion

Don’t bother. Danny fails to realise people like him are why WWE feels they can feed us the same shit week in week out. They try someone different, who’s paid his dues and earned respect, and people like Danny spit his dummy out because it ain’t Cena.

this whole cm punk is is a work , MARK my wordz !!..if cm punk really just left the company on his own terms and just walked out the door , wwe would start a smear campaign against him straight away .remember when austin took his ball and left back in 02 and vince addressed the live crowd on that very night and made austin out to look like the bad guy . by saying things like ” austin was a featured attraction advertized and many of you came to see him. but when he left, he walked out on all of you too . being a no show is the biggest cardinal sin in the business “. they even did a whole segment about him leaving a few days later on the pseudo shoot show at the time ” wwe confidential ” .they had other performers ( a lot of them his friends no less ..including jim ross ) bad mouthing him on the show and portraying him in a negative light , whilst making themselves look like the faces in the whole saga. they even did it to the ultimate warrior too for walking out after summerslam 1991 ! there was a whole dvd released back in 05 badmouthing him for the way he did business after summerslam amongst other things .. if punk really walked out on wwe , dont you think they would do the same thing? they wouldnt be putting ” the best cm punk moment videos ” on wwe.com ,and celebrating his career like they have been doing, they would be bashing him left right and centre for what he did , and trying to make themselves look like the victims in the whole thing. ( “we had time . money and storylines invested in him . fans paid to see him , he let them all down. he let the boys in the locker room down blah blah blah ” )..all it looks like to me is that theyve leaked this whole contrived story out to get people talking and to make the whole ” authority regime ” sound even more legit in the “smarter fans ” eyes . and you have all fallen for it . because as they say behind the curtain in the business ” the so called smarter fans” are the easiest to fool. most of them thought punks pipebomb back in 2011 was a shoot , which is absurbed . if it was real ,as soon as he started going off script they would have cut the mic and gone to a commercial or something ….when punk comes back from his vacation just before mania he will be hotter than ever due to this ” walking out of wwe ” storyline and have all the fans on his side ” raging against the corporate authority machine ” and chomping at the bit to see the authority and hhh get his comuppence ( which they know will be a big payday as fans will pay to see it ) i bet wwe are probably laughing at everyone now , saying ” oh we sure fooled them ….again “

It screams fake to me and hope it is a work because I still find punk entertaining. He’s definitely not the old SES punk that I miss, but it’s better than some of the other crap that’s shown. Just because he’s sucked lately doesn’t mean I’m no longer a fan. At least he’s trying something if this is a work.
