Daniel Bryan To Undergo Neck Surgery On Thursday

Shares 0

WWE World Heavyweight Champion Daniel Bryan announced on this week's episode of Monday Night Raw that he'll undergo neck surgery on Thursday.

Bryan built the announcement up by discussing that he knew it would be an "uphill battle" as WWE champion but the hill is steeper than he thought it would be. Bryan incorporated storyline aspects of the climb, by noting his issues with The Authority and Kane before making the announcement. He said in the promo there was a chance his career could be over, but "it won't be."

We are able to confirm Bryan has a legitimate neck injury and will undergo surgery later in the week. However, the word going around earlier in the day was the procedure will be minimally invasive.

WWE has yet to respond to our request for comment.

Poor guy. They finally decide to put the strap on him (and keep it there), and he goes away on honeymoon, loses his father, and now needs neck surgery. It might seem like only the last 2 were unavoidable, but I believe all 3 were unavoidable. Remember, the original plan was for Batista to go over Orton at WM30 (not Bryan), so I’d be fairly certain that the honeymoon was planned pretty well in advance for after WM30 on the idea that he would NOT be champion.

P.S. Pretty classy of Dolph to tweet that.

I bet they feel badly for having him chase it all that time…..they should have let him hold it at Summerslam.

Will he be forced to surrender the title?

    • Patrick

      I hope not.

  • Patrick

I hope they do not take the title off him. if the surgery is minor….then he will not be out long.

    • BIG M

You ever heard of neck surgery being “Minor”.
It might be less invasive but any time you have your neck operated on it’s never a “Minor” procedure.
If he can’t make Payback they will take the straps of him.
Which sucks but for storyline purposes its unavoidable.

I seem to recall reports of cena having neck work done to him and it was done in the morning and he was at the Arena that night saying hello to everyone with nothing but a Bandage on his neck. instead of being at home resting…. some people do recover quickly.

Cena’s a genetic freak though he didnt just have a neck injury he actually broke his neck and came back in less than 4 months when anyone else would be out for a year.
To this day though I simply dont believe that tall tale that he showed up at Raw that night.
No one not even Cena could have neck surgury in the afternoon be discharged from hospital that very same afternoon than travel to the arena and stay the entire show and say hi to everyone.
No human being walking the face of the earth past present or future could be physicaly able to do that.

That sucks. He finally gets a legitimate run with the title, and now he needs surgery. Hopefully he won’t be out too long and won’t get the title taken from him.

Any type of neck surgery is serious and I can only hope he won’t be out too long. I don’t want Bryan to rush his return, if he needs the extra time then he should take it. I feel bad for the guy, this was supposed to be the time of his life with his title win and marrying the love of his life but sadly life has shown how unpredictable it can be with the loss of his father and now neck surgery.

Jeez… Definitely not want I wanted to hear right now. Get well soon, DB.

Maybe now WWE will be careful in the future with all these beatdowns they do at the end of shows. I’m sure all that, including with DB’s style, takes a toll on him.

    • Jay El Bee

Don’t blame the beatdowns, like you mentioned his in-ring style probably had more to do with this than anything else. There is only so many times you can throw your body wildly at your opponent and land on the shoulder to head area of your body before it starts to add up.

I think Bryan might be done..with the influx of talent on the roster, his spot will be taken over and its just not fair..what did he do to deserve all of this bad stuff happening to him? its just so sad, he worked hard to entertain us each and every week and this happens..on top of Connor and his father dying….Its just unreal!

I really didn’t like the send off they gave him. I know it was all part of a story line but considering he may not return it sucked. I hope they let him have a redo if in fact he’s out for good let they did Edge. I’m for sure he will do everything possible for a speedy recovery to get back in the ring quickly as possible.

  • Andrew Dunn

I hope you get well soon Daniel Bryan please don’t take the title away from him.
