Daniel Bryan WWE Champ, Indecision Over The Shield, No Wrestlemania Undercard But 4 Main Events

Is it a given Daniel Bryan is going to be the next champion? If WWE doesn’t put him over wouldn’t that be a HUGE mistake?

If there is one point I’ve tried to make in the build to Wrestlemania, it’s “there are no givens.” Literally anything is possible and we have to get out of this mindset that something is “definitively” going to happen. Such certainties in the pro wrestling business do not exist. Something can be likely but it doesn’t go further than that. Here’s the thing about the Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H program. It’s basically split the audience – some love it and others hate it. Some feel it’s too predictable, while others feel Triple H will do whatever it takes to dismiss Daniel Bryan both in a kayfabe sense and in a legitimate sense. I find the program entertaining and think the added stipulations to the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match at Wrestlemania XXX have helped it. There has also been a philosophical change in the way Daniel Bryan is viewed by the WWE brass. While Hunter will continue to “degrade him” in this program, he’s scene as a top guy headed into the pay-per-view. This was not the original plan but a result of what happened at Royal Rumble and the audience refusing to accept Batista as a babyface. If I were booking, I’d put Bryan over in both bouts but that’s far from a sure thing.

What is the thinking behind the months of teasing a breakup in The Shield with Roman Reigns poised to turn face, only to turn the three members face at the same time to feud with Kane? Was the buildup done purposefully to build suspense before a switch or is this a change of heart from creative?

As I reported in this week’s Backstage News from Raw, the indecision over what to do with The Shield stems from a difference of opinion between Vince McMahon and Triple H. This has been confusing to follow but I’ll argue that one feels they are better suited in a turn to face Kane in some capacity at Wrestlemania. However, this is a newer development that has only came about in the last couple of weeks and is certainly subject to change. All of the indecision and lack of direction in the top of the card has resulted in a nonexistent Wrestlemania undercard.

With majority of WWE superstars being booked for the Andre the Giant Memorial Battle Royal, is there a chance there definitely will be a lack of matches at Wrestlemania?

As I just mentioned, the lack of direction and indecisiveness in the top of the Wrestlemania card has resulted in a nonexistent undercard. Believe it or not, Wrestlemania 30 is two weeks from Sunday. The card is built on John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt, Daniel Bryan vs. Triple H, Undertaker vs. Brock Lesnar and the situation with the WWE World Heavyweight Championship with Batista, Randy Orton and the winner of Bryan/Hunter. Then it’s everyone else. Readers have emailed in, asking about secondary titles and other undercard aspects but this is what the card is at this juncture. The battle royal is certainly a way to get guys on the card without developing storylines to explain them. What I don’t understand is the fact WWE has more television time now than ever and they aren’t able to deliver more storylines for the biggest show of the year. It’s disappointing and if you aren’t excited about one of the four main events, you’re probably not excited for Wrestlemania.

What’s the Wrestlemania 30 main event?

Wrestlemania has four main events – Brock Lesnar vs. Undertaker, John Cena vs. Bray Wyatt, Triple H vs. Daniel Bryan and the WWE World Heavyweight Championship match. Obviously Hunter vs. Bryan has to go before the title match and I would expect as much space as possible.

November 2012: What has Sheamus done/not done to cause WWE to lose faith in him? - I was told this week Sheamus is being tested and hasn’t done anything wrong. WWE wants him to “stay hungry” and know there are others vying for his spot in the company. Sheamus is seen as a guy that always works hard and he has the favor of Triple H.

Let’s just hope the change of plans doesn’t mean they decided to just throw The Shield in the battle royal. They deserve much better.

    • Bob’s Diner

I think they also deserve better than to have a pointless 6-man tag match like last year. I bet they are regretting doing Wyatts/Shield at Elimination Chamber now

  • Tim

How the hell is there 4 main events.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

What do you mean? It’s Wrestlemania, there are always multiple main events.

      • Tim

It was a joke. But in reality there is only one main event. We just won’t know that til wrestlemania. But it’s safe to say it’s going to be the triple threat.

  • http://www.harvestmoonparadise.com anthonyd46

I would think there would be a Divas title match, tag team title match, for sure. It looks like they keep going on with Sheamus vs Christian even though they have had multiple matches in the last few weeks. They could do shield vs kane in some capacity, I guess you can somehow fit the IC title in there, real americans either against each other or in some kind of match?

  • King A sshole
    • Mysterion

      Really ?

      • PHATBOYLBC

        YES REALLY!!

        • Mysterion

I call you out on one post and now you apparently stalk me? While sat in your big, important job, with your degree a chimp could earn, like the big, grown up you are? Ok.

          • PHATBOYLBC

LOL No not stalking you at all. Thank you for the compliment though. Lets not forget YOU opened your smart A$$ mouth first talking about grammar (while your post had more mistakes) and insulting my intelligence. But I will be the adult here and let it go.

    • Cubed56

Ha, that’s funny. However, IMO Wyatt vs cena will very entertaining, possibly a show stealer.

  • Tim

How would you feel about this fans? Daniel Bryan beats triple h to get into the triple threat. Triple h gets mad and enters himself in the match for a fatal four way. Then Daniel Bryan beats triple h again to win the title.

    • Matt

I would really like that just from a fan perspective.

      • Tim

It would shoot Daniel Bryan into insane heights of popularity. And it would be good tv for triple h as he would be livid.

        • Matt

Absolutely. People are looking storylines too deeply here. Triple H and Undertaker are the two most prestigious names on the Mania card. Fighting them is huge. Bray fighting Cena is huge for him, too. I can’t wait.

    • Jbreed

I don’t like the idea of somebody just entering hmself in a match just because he can.

    • yuuupdavehester

I was thinking that scenario would happen. It actually seems most entertaining to me. And if you don’t like people putting themselves in matches just because they can, then you must hate sports entertainment.

    • Stephen Heim

I thought the same thing about it being a fatal four way title match.

      • Krezi

What about Triple H tries to cheat Daniel using Kane, CM Punk come out kick Kane in the head, Daniel beat triple, go in the title match and HHH call out Punk for a match..

        • Tim

Or Kane just gets sick of the stupid angle. He is in and chokeslams all but Bryan.

    • Bob’s Diner

That is terrible. Fatal four way matches are not good and the only one at WrestleMania was beyond awful. Plus that makes the whole match between HHH & Bryan pointless

    • Cubed56

I like the idea, but fatal four ways are hardly ever good or entertaining matches.

      • Jbreed

Especially if Tripe H, Batista and Randy Orton are involved.

        • Cubed56

          Absolutely agree.

      • Tim

The one I think it was at no mercy 2001 maybe. With Kane taker the rock and I think Kurt angle was good.

        • Bob’s Diner

There are few things in wrestling Kurt Angle can’t make entertaining

  • Elena Poumos

I would be in favour of kane and two mystery partners vs the shield. Here is a crazy idea let the two mystery opponents be for one night only Mankind and sting! Can you imagine the roof would be blown off the building.

But I am guessing it will be kane and new age outlaws vs the shield at mania

    • Jbreed

The mystery opponents is a really good idea but unfortunately I don’t see it happening. Eric Rowan and Luke Harper seem like the most suitable choices to team up with Kane.

  • Bob’s Diner

I wouldn’t be surprised if they are holding off splitting up The Shield after the disaster that was the Reigns/Wyatt match on Raw. Obviously Reigns is the one they want to push once The Shield splits but they can’t really do that until he gets better in the ring or it will fail.

Not to mention HHH’s boys the Old Age Outlaws were probably promised a WrestleMania payday with the tag-titles but had to drop them to appease the Chicago crowd, so putting them against The Shield makes them happy

  • Mysterion

I can see the HHH and Bryan match ending in a draw and the main event being a bloody four way dance at this rate…

  • Cubed56

The undercard is really weak right now, but I feel they could really change that if they add a divas title match, The Shield vs Kane/NAO, and the Usos vs the Real Americans for the tag titles.

    • Xavier

I wouldn’t mind seeing those two matches. Add the Brotherhood to the tag match and make it a ladder match

      • Cubed56

I agree adding the brotherhood and making a ladder match would be awesome, the only reason i didnt put them in is cause they are already in the battle royal, and i dont think the real americans are.

      • Bob’s Diner

Yeah I was kind of hoping they were heading that way myself… why they aren’t back in contention for the tag-titles is beyond me. Then again, I still think they dropped the ball with Cody after the whole firing angle. I would have liked to have seen him in a big match at WrestleMania this year – he was so darn over 6 months ago

  • Krezi

What about Triple H tries to cheat Daniel using Kane, CM Punk come out kick Kane in the head, Daniel beat triple, go in the title match and HHH call out Punk for a match

    • Bob’s Diner

At WrestleMania? An impromptu match between two big stars?

      • Krezi

Trust me it will be crazy, Two matches for Daniel and Two for HHH.. big night for a return

        • Bob’s Diner

Crazy like a pile of dung

  • Xavier

After reading through most of these fantasy booking comments I’m really glad that the internet isn’t in charge of WWE booking.

    • Bob’s Diner

I am nodding in agreement right now…

      • Xavier

Lol, I don’t understand the fascination with a fatal four way match either.

        • Bob’s Diner

Even more bizarre is now people want HHH to just add himself because he loses to Bryan. What the?!?!?! What happened to the good old days when no one on the internet wanted to watch HHH even wrestle ONE match at WrestleMania ;-)

          • Xavier

That’s what I don’t get. People have been complaining about Triple H non-stop the last six months and now they want him to lose just to turnaround and add himself to the main event. I don’t get it

          • Bob’s Diner

I’m beginning to get really confused with wrestling fans – one minute they are complaining Daniel Bryan is getting buried, the next they are complaining he is taking up too much TV time. One minute HHH is on TV too much, the next minute people want him and Daniel Bryan to wrestle each other in every match at WrestleMania and also fight over the title afterwards.

No wonder HHH hates us all and Vince ignores us

            edit
and I still can’t make sense of the fact Batista is evil for coming back and taking a top spot but the Old Age Outlaws are awesome for doing the same thing

          • Xavier

Could not have said it better myself. I truly believe that Vince/HHH are trying to push the smark demographic out of wrestling somewhat.

          • Bob’s Diner

            I’m starting to see why…

          • Cubed56

            Amen!

          • Tim

Hmm I must of miss the part of Batista being entertaining. And the nao throwing everyone and their hardwork away like Batista.

          • Bob’s Diner

Really? Look at the tag division 6 months ago and look at it now – the Outlaws beat every team clean and held the titles instead of real tag-teams that could do with the push. The Rhodes’ brothers went from being one of the most over things on the roster to barely lucky if they can make it on the WrestleMania card, thanks to feuding with – and constantly losing clean to – the Old Age Outlaws. Two guys that are older than Batista and can barely walk to the ring and do their 10 years out of date catchphrases without getting blown up.

Oh yeah, the Outlaws totally didn’t take a top spot from anyone at all and have really moved WWE forward.

          • Tim

Triple h didn’t want Daniel Bryan to be in a title match at mania. But Bryan forced HHH to give him a chance. So if Bryan would beat HHH. Triple h would do all he can do to not let Bryan win. Which is what he has been doing. So it’s not a personal crave for the match. It just makes perfect sense to over come triple h and his goons. Plus it wwe logic.

    • Tim

How about triple h beats Daniel Bryan. Goes on to the triple threat. Then triple h Batista and randy orton. All have a tea party. Then triple h fires everyone. Then triple h Batista and orton. All share the belts together. Except the divas title. (Randy doesn’t want to share all them so he gorilla stomps around the ring until triple h and Batista agree. Just orton can have it. And then the internet gets canceled. And all history is replaced with just triple h Batista and orton. Then all inform to re watch the evolution network. To relive wrestlemania 3 where triple h Batista and orton. All body slam each other simultaneously. Wcw and ecw are resurrected. They all three share their title too. Of course except the women’s championship. Batista gets that one. So now he nut hugging skin tight clothing has a purpose. And that’s all in the pre show for wrestlemania 30.

      • J Vomkrieg

A plan with no flaws….. HIRE THIS MAN NOW

      • Xavier

        Lol

      • MaGayle AceVivid Starks

        Severe misuse of punctuation.

        • Tim

Severe lack of a good app.

      • JR Texx (Jamie)

What about the Internet Title, give that to Batista, since everyone loves him so much.

    • Cubed56

      Lol, agreed.

  • Daniel Bryan

It doesn’t even feel like Wrestlemania is coming up. WWE really dropped the ball this year. Where’s the undercard? WM30 is 3 weeks away and there’s still indecisive booking. Smh. I know WWE can do better than that.

    • Jbreed

And imagine if they would have stuck with the original plan of Batista/randy Orton for the main event. WM 30 would be a complete disaster.

      • Daniel Bryan

I honestly don’t mind watching Batista vs Orton but not for the title and not on the main event. The 3rd or 4th match on the card would’ve been a great place for them. Throw Ric Flair as a special guest referee, we have a good WM undercard match.

    • Bob’s Diner

It isn’t so much the undercard, but you are right it doesn’t feel like WrestleMania is so close. There are only 2 episodes of Raw left to get people excited. When was the last time a WrestleMania was so poorly built???

I wonder if it is because of the title match being heel vs heel for so long or if it is simply a by-product of the PPV system not really being that important to WWE anymore?

      • Tim

        Wm27

        • Bob’s Diner

Yup. But at least they had the return of The Rock at that show to get people excited

          • Xavier

Rock’s involvement in that Mania kinda killed Mania for me. Don’t get me wrong though I was excited to have him there but him opening up Mania too cut a 15-20 minute promo really threw off the show and then on top of that the opening match was for the WHC. I was just really confused as to why they wold start the show in that order then with the main event The Rock pretty much sh***** on that match with the way it ended with him Rock bottoming Cena & Miz. The flow of that show was just so off IMHO

          • Bob’s Diner

I actually didn’t mind The Rock opening with a promo too much… but yeah, opening match the WHC was strange. Then the booking choices afterwards just had me shaking me head for most of the show… HHH vs Undertaker was by far the only thing worth watching on that show. It isn’t even close.

BTW I just had to check the wiki page to remember what matches happened. Someone on there has changed the participants in the CM Punk/Orton match…

          • Cubed56

I was a huge Rock fan in 96-00, but to be honest his involvement in WM 27-29 killed all those manias for me.

        • Xavier

That Mania was terrible. While this year’s won’t be anything special it will be a lot better then WM27

          • Tim

It was fairly bad. 14,17,24 were the best in my opinion.

      • Jbreed

A lot of it does have to do with the undercard. The only match we know of with 2 weeks left is the 30 man battle royal. We still don’t know what The Shield will be doing and what the tag title and divas title matches are gonna be. And I think some of it even has to with the lackluster buildup of The Undertaker/Brock Lesnar match and a lot of peope not being sold on the John Cena/Bray Wyatt match.

        • Daniel Bryan

I don’t want to see a 30 man battle royal.
It nothing I’m excited for, no matter whose in it.
          I just want compelling storylines.

          • Jbreed

Totally agree. Instead what they decided to do is put all their time and effort into the top four matches and just throw everybody else into one meaningless match. And another thing about the battle royal, most of the guys involved are guys who a few years ago were the ones who were supposed to be next big stars and who would be headlining WM 30.

          • Daniel Bryan

Exactly bro. I’m in total agreement with you.
We have to wait until WM40 to see new names headlining. Lol.

          • Jbreed

Maybe not even at WM 40. Remember some of guys who were in the top matches at WM 20 (Triple H, The Undertaker, Brock Lesnar, Batista, Randy Orton) are in the top matches ten years later at WM 30.

          • Bob’s Diner

Orton and Cena will still be at WM 40 – probably battling to unify the titles again and become the first 110 time champion!!!

          • Jbreed

And who knows maybe Vince McMahon will finally convince CM Punk to come back and his match against Triple H will happen.

        • Bob’s Diner

See, I look at it in the sense that having a rushed undercard isn’t too a big a deal, so long as people are excited for the show. But the so-called main events are not matches anyone cares about. Bryan vs HHH? The crowd were booing every time Bryan mentioned it. Orton vs Batista for the title? Well, there are some sad people on here that were really excited for that but that’s just because they are stuck in 2004. Undertaker vs Lesnar is the only match I’m looking forward to, but even still Lesnar’s been so misused the last 2 years that he isn’t drawing anyone in now…

They’ve spent too much time on TV building the matches people aren’t excited about. Not the best way to go about such an historic show.

At this rate, I kind of think Hulk Hogan should just come out, tell everyone they are an embarrassment to WrestleMania and legdrop everyone in sight before declaring himself champion and then they play Real American for about an hour on loop. Including the music video

          • Cubed56

Wyatt/Cena is the match I’m most looking forward too. Will cena allow Bray to go over and extend their feud, which has the potential to be great, or will cena win and kill the feud before it really starts along with Bray’s momentum?

          • Bob’s Diner

Actually, I agree with your assessment there. I hope they keep going with the feud, but given John Cena was saying in that kayfabe interview that Wyatt “doesn’t care about winning” I can see Cena going over now… he only tends to lose when he cuts the old promo about how that person needs to win but he doesn’t

        • Cubed56

I agree, except I’m actually very intrigued by cena/Wyatt. I think it’s by far the best built match. The question for me is, will they cena allow the right thing to happen and let bray go over or not.

          • Jbreed

The feud has actually grown on me but I noticed it’s not a match a lot of people are talking about. Maybe it’s because they’re not used to John Cena not being in the main event.

          • Cubed56

That’s fair, but in all honesty other then HHH/DB, no match is really being talked about. I’m just so interested in it cause on one side, while I hate cena, I respect him and acknowledge him as the face off wwe, he’s gonna be 37 in April. Now while cena has a lot of years left barring injury, for the first time in along time the wwe has multiple future stars staring them right in the face, and bray is one of them. I’m intrigued to see if Cena will do the right thing and put Bray over, wether it’s clean or with a little help from the family it doesn’t matter. It’s to the point where one loss for cena does nothing, but one win over cena can do/mean everything to a superstar.

          • Jonathan Salcido

Don’t tell that to “Lord” Tensai!!!

      • Daniel Bryan

To be honest with u, idk what it is. All I know is that, WWE has been doing this for more that 2 decades and they still can’t come up with simple, intriguing storylines. Booking 101.

  • Radical Rex

With everybody that they already have confirmed to be in the battle royal, the only matches I can see them adding to the undercard is Usos vs Real Americans, Shield vs Kane and the Outlaws, and some sort of divas match. I’m guessing AJ vs Naomi vs one of the Bellas vs Natalya/Tamina. I don’t even know what they’re going to do for the pre-show. My original guess was Santino and Emma vs Fandango and Summer Rae, but Fandango is already confirmed for the battle royal. I guess they could still do Summer Rae vs Emma for a pre-show match, but eh.

I still think this Mania has some good potential, but it’s definitely been a lackluster build this year.

    • Cubed56

Great minds think alike, or you read my post and retyped it in your own words, lol.

  • J Vomkrieg

Hmmm…. at this rate the undercard is looking like it could be…….

Emma and Santino vs Fandango and summer rae in a 3 stages of dancing match. (Ballroom, Freestyle, Ballet)
Sheamus (with hornswoggle vs Christian in a 2 on 1 “pot of gold and potatoes” handicap match (The ring has a pot, full of gold and potatoes)
The shield beating on kane for 20+ minutes, of which 15 of those minutes are close up shots of roman reigns brooding and/or replays of him spearing Kane
30 man battle royale, with full entrances, and associated ramp promos by each entrant on exactly why they will win the battle royale and at least one touching Andre the giant story.
A screening of the princess bride….. from start to finish.
Jerry “the king” lawler vs Michael Cole in a wrestlemania rematch best “9 out of 17″ falls no DQ mephis street fight match (JBL as special ref). Commentary by Titus O’neil as a solo booth.
An Eric Escobar tribute reel and early notification of HOF induction for 2015
    Ric Flair vs Hulk Hogan

    • Bob’s Diner

The Princess Bride would be more entertaining than anything they’ve planned so far…

      • J Vomkrieg

Its a great film, and Andre is fantastic in it.

Honestly, I buy PPVs on merit, i dont get all of them. Wrestlemania is just not doing it for me this year and there ain’t much on the card to get me excited.

        • Bob’s Diner

The winner of the battle royal should get handed the trophy from Mandy Patinkin.

I’m with yo, re: the card this year. Last year’s event was honestly so boring I was hoping they would really step it up this year. But I think they’ve actually managed to make me care less

          • J Vomkrieg

            Wally shawn on commentary!

“They put Mark Henry over the top rope! INCONCEIVABLE!”

And yeah, last wrestlemania ended a 20+ PPVs in a row streak from me.

          • Bob’s Diner

            That’s awesome!
And Cary Elwes as a surprise entrant, and as he is thrown over the top he yells “AS YOU WIIIIIIISSSH!!”

          • JR Texx (Jamie)

Bryan should be number 30, why not people seem to want him in everything anyway.
