Daniel Bryan’s Future After WWE Title, Punk Cut, Reaction To Damien Sandow

- For those that missed this week’s episode of Monday Night Raw, there were two potential storylines set for Daniel Bryan going forward. The first is the progression of Shawn Michaels’ turn on him that started at WWE Hell in a Cell on Sunday night. The second involved The Wyatt Family, which resulted in WWE doing a kayfabe injury angle where Bryan was “taken to a local medical facility.” It remains to be seen what direction WWE takes but it appears Bryan will be out of the WWE title picture for Survivor Series.

- Speaking of The Wyatt Family’s attack, CM Punk suffered a cut above his eye in the melee.

- Damien Sandow received high marks for his match against John Cena for the World Heavyweight Championship on this week’s Monday Night Raw. We’re told Vince McMahon wanted to do the “cash in” attempt on Raw to help combat competition with the World Series and Monday Night Football. There were also people blown away with the way Cena looked in his second match back from surgery.

Cena-Sandow was an amazing match because Cena has great timing in the ring, even if he has some tiresome moves (most of them do anyway). People who knock Cena’s in-ring work are simply doing it because they hate his character. But the guy works as hard as anyone to put together a great match. Sandow’s verbal abuse during the pre-match attack (e.g. “Rise above THIS”) was excellent. It reminded me of how well certainly heels (and their managers) contrasted themselves from Hulk Hogan (through meticulous language). I do believe that there’s a place for Super Cena to face more conventional heels IF those opponents can elevate their mic skills and in-ring intensity/ruthlessness. WWE just needs to be smart about keeping Cena on air without overusing him (for multiple reasons).

I disagree about Cena’s ring work.

The problem for me is that a good wrestling match will have a story that’s told throughout, but Cena’s Matches almost always have the same story. The story is that he overcomes the challenges that are thrown his way. This however doesn’t always make sense, when you consider his strength and explosive energy. Why is a guy that’s over 6 foot and 240lbs always getting a beating throughout the majority of the match?
Why hasn’t he learnt to play it differently after 7-8 years of this exact same situation.

There’s a reason his best matches this year were with CM Punk and Daniel Bryan and it’s because there was both variety in the moveset and more importantly in the story. It was back and forth, not always being beat down only to Super Cena the finish.

He also can’t sell anything; not a beating, not a feud – nothing. I used to like the guy a lot, but his inability to make any feud seem important has put me off. In fact, he can’t even make a crowd reaction seem important. Want to boo him? He respects your right to an opinion. Want to cheer him? That is good, too – he doesn’t care either way.

LMAO keep your rants coming, your illogical rationing is hilarious. Wipe your tears and expect that your internet idols will never be as over as Cena. Only people in the IWC care about Bryan. The ratings proved that. Cena brings in the money, produces great matches like the one last night. What does Bryan do again? Oh that’s right he can grow a ugly flee infested beard and say YES like he’s hooked on phonics and sink ratings in the process.

Or bad booking. WWE did a horrible job of booking while Cena was out. Daniel Bryan is only loved by the IWC? Watch Raw & look at the reaction he gets, before you make a stupid comment with out watching first. Daniel Bryan is the hottest star going right now.

          • Danny_Boy

Is it bad booking, or is that Bryan isn’t has beloved as people like you think? I bet you think it’s Cena fault to that Bryan isn’t champion. Gotta love the logic of the IWC sometimes lol. Look at the ratings and look how low they are with the show centered around guys like Bryan, Punk & Ziggler.

          • David

The fact of the matter is that it IS bad booking.

Why would ratings stay up when the top face competitor was consistently being beat down, wins the belt, has the belt taken away from poor booking, then has to be part of one of the worst title match endings in years and finally has to lose once again due to shenanigans?

I don’t have a problem with people having different taste, just come back with some reasoning to why the booking hasn’t hurt the viewership.

Did you just blame Cena’s opponents for why he is so boring???

  • The Ra

Cena sounded like he’s getting his swagg back in his promo, almost like rapper Cena

I believe, with the aggression he showed last night, Sandow can be a main event worker for years to come. I still say he’s very similar to Triple H, and has just as much potential to be a top guy in WWE.

They were both trained by killer kowalski

  • Darth Stallion

Having never seen the two of them face to face before, I was shocked at how much bigger than Cena than Damien Sandow is.

Welcome back to the mid-card, Daniel Bryan. Glad you could make room for those up-and-comers Randy Orton, John Cena, Big Show and HHH

    • Tony Rankin

Lol I had the same thoughts. But I have faith that they’re waiting to strap Daniel Bryan at Wrestlemania to truly solidify him. The fact that WWE let him go over Mega Cena clean shows they have the utmost faith in Bryan and are just waiting for the right time.

      • Bob’s Diner

I have less faith. There has been no follow up to his win over Cena, which should have been huge. John Cena himself doesn’t care – he hasn’t once shown any emotion to losing in that match. Plus in his next match he got another shiny gold belt. So why should we as fans care that Daniel Bryan beat John Cena? Why should we see him as a viable champion, when he has done nothing since that one match?

        • Danny_Boy

Lol yeah, let’s blame Cena because Bryan can’t stay over and bring in ratings. I would expect nothing less from the haters like yourself. Here’s what your gonna do, you’ll continue to cry about how WWE-PG sucks and you’ll say “you have no more faith in the product” but you’ll comtinue to still watch like the mindless sheep you are.

          • Bob’s Diner

HA shows what you know; I LIKE that WWE went back to PG. To me, this show should be for everyone – not just teenagers. I’m not sure where you got any “blame” we are placing at Cena for anything, either. He’s certainly not the person I blame for being people not getting over or being pushed properly

Anyway, cena is good to back on ring ! Booing or chanting …just fine !

To back up something that “The Uncrowned Champion of the Unwashed Masses” stated on RAW, just how DOES a guy come back so miraculously fast from an injury that would put a normal man on the shelf for at least twice the time? Wonder how many Cena homers will come on here to bash me for touching their idol. Just saying that, as a huge Hogan fan in my childhood, the steroid trial rocked the business back in the day.
