A judge ruled on Tuesday that Devon “Hannibal” Nicholson should receive $2.3 million in damages and fees from Abdullah the Butcher after Nicholson contracted Hepatitis C from him during a wrestling match on May 26, 2007.
Nicholson learned he had the disease while undergoing a physical for a WWE contract in 2009. As a result of the positive test, WWE canceled their offer. WWE tests workers for infectious diseases such as Hepatitis C and HIV before signing them to a contract. If the worker tests positive, they fail their physical.
Butcher, whose real name is Lawrence Robert Shreve, will have 30 days to appeal the ruling. Nicholson says the ruling puts the truth on the record.
“Mr. Shreve himself has been saying all along that I’m a liar, that he doesn’t have hepatitis C, he didn’t cut me, and I believe the judge made it very clear that, yes, he did cut me … and yes, he does have a history of hepatitis C,” Nicholson said.
