DirecTV Customers To Lose TNA Programming At Midnight?

Shares 0

- Viacom sent out the following today:

Viacom’s distribution agreement with DirecTV is set to expire at midnight on Tuesday, July 10. We’ve been negotiating for months and even offered DirecTV an extension past the agreement’s original June 30 expiration date. As recently as today, we made significant economic movement in direct conversations with DirecTV.

However, despite our best efforts, DirecTV has rejected all of our proposals to renew our agreement. This evening, DirecTV provided Viacom with a counter proposal that included a lower rate than Viacom receives from any other distributor in the industry. With this offer, our negotiations have reached an impasse.

This means that, as of tomorrow night, nearly 20 million DirecTV subscribers will be without entertainment from the programmer they watch most. A total of 26 Viacom channels, including Nickelodeon, MTV, Comedy Central, BET, VH1, CMT, Spike TV, TV Land and more won’t be available.

This is of particular note to wrestling fans because Spike TV broadcasts Impact Wrestling.

So What Other Tv Providers Are there in america ?

Spike only had TNA and BET and CMT wasn't much but the other were big names. Dish Network always bragged that DirecTV are always raising rates and now they have more fuel against DirecTV. I'm a cable subscriber but feel for the dish subscribers.

A billion digital cable outlets, and Satellite TV. Still DirecTV holds a good chunk of the market.

Wow! Those are some of the biggest channels there are! DirecTV must be crazy to not want those channels! I think this is gonna come back to bite DirecTV in the ass.

What Viacom didnt tell you is that the reason directv is fighting is because Viacom wants to raise the rates for their channels by 30% which nets them a billion dollars and we the customers dont get anything extra

This happens all the time they always find a way to figure it out

I’ve had Direct for at least 10 years and only remember losing channels 1 time. Which sucked because it was Fox Sports which carries Pittsburgh Penguins hockey games. So people were going nuts, but they got a deal done right before the season started. These contracts happen a lot but we just aren’t told about it. Direct seems to try to lowball these distributors at first, but they get deals done in the end before we lose any channels.

Well our cable provider was bought out and actually had our local news channel off for several days. Then after a lot of people complained about it, they finally reached an agreement. It was the same situation as Direct tv. Alot of people in my city actually switched to att or direct tv because of the same problem. Glad we didnt make the switch

Cable does the same thing they lost the World Series a few years ago I don’t even watch those channels anyway.

I called DirecTv and inquired about the loss of Spike Tv. I was told that Spike Tv is only one of the 8 or 10 (he rattled them off so fast that I could not keep count) channels that will be removed for a couple of days. The contracts of channels such as MTV, CMT, (the home of Redneck Island) TV Land, Nickelodeon as well as VHI and a few others, are up but negotiations are at 98%. The customer service rep ensured me that we will get these channels back and customers will also be compensated for the days that the channels are removed. As far as what type of compensation, he would not elaborate. Normally I am sceptical but I must say that before I hung up, I did feel confident that I received an honest explanation from them.
