Divas In WWE, Dolph Ziggler Misused, The Authority Too Powerful, Undertaker's Health, Prince Devitt/WWE

I think that WWE has some really good Divas that look the part and can perform in the ring (Emma, Natalya, Paige, etc) but they just don't get enough time to matter. Does the company care about the Divas division?

I agree WWE is loaded with female talent, especially when considering the ceilings of newcomers such as Emma and Paige. The company cares about their Divas, especially with the success of Total Divas; they're just used in a different capacity. WWE is currently using the Divas to attract the female demographic (through the reality series on E) in addition to acting as ambassadors. Unfortunately, actual in-ring talent is secondary, even though there are more than a few Divas that can more than hold their own. I'm not sure this will ever change under the current structure, however, the NXT Divas get far more opportunities to showcase their in-ring talent.

What's the general feeling on Dolph Ziggler within WWE? A lot of former names have come out in support of him recently, but ever since his concussion last year (the first one) it seems WWE sees him as a failure.

We've spent a lot of time over the past couple of years talking about Dolph Ziggler, pointing out the fact he is one of the most under utilized guys on the WWE roster. However, his "bad booking" goes back even further than the injury last year as he was jobbed out after winning the Money in the Bank briefcase in 2012. Just when it looked like he was about to break through, the injury happened and it's been nothing but downhill since. The only reason I can give is that Vince McMahon doesn't see him as a top guy. While his win/loss record isn't bad over his last 10 televised matches at 6-4, I don't think anyone sees him as more than a mid-card talent. I heard he had a fantastic dark match on Tuesday night against Sami Zayn.

I was wondering what your thoughts were on Stephanie McMahon as an on-screen character?

My problem with both the on-air characters of Triple H and Stephanie McMahon is they are too powerful. It seems no matter what happens, they always come out on top. This is what happened during the extended Daniel Bryan vs. Randy Orton program last year and we can see the momentum of the Yes Movement lessoning each week. I get there is a lot of money in Daniel Bryan as the proverbial underdog but most will agree the "B+ player" bit is beyond stale.

Is there any more news on the Undertaker's condition after his Wrestlemania match?

The last I heard on Undertaker was he was banged up pretty bad in his Wrestlemania 30 match against Brock Lesnar, suffering a severe concussion. While most would assume that was it for Undertaker, I'm told there is still a possibility of him working the show next year. Obviously if that happens, he will not have near the same amount of pressure or expectations associated with his match.

Prince Devitt has been a free agent for a while now and linked with a move to the WWE for just as long. Are the WWE interested in him and is there any chance of him appearing soon?

I heard WWE and Prince Devitt were close to deal with him even being given certain assurances as to how long he would have to spend at the WWE Performance Center before getting called up to the main roster. That was one issue that had kept him from signing. Triple H was asked about him in Wednesday's conference call but offered no comment.

From the Ask WNW vault…

January 2012: Does WWE provide talent with health insurance and benefits such as paid vacations and paid time off? - Performers in WWE are classified as independent contractors, not employees, so options such as health insurance are not available. This has been controversial throughout the years; however, little to no progress has been made when challenged. As for paid vacations and paid time off, a worker will collect their downside guarantee as long as they are not suspended. Therefore if they request time off, and it’s granted, it is paid time off as they are collecting all but show bonuses.

Ziggler’s dark match against Sami Zayn was incredible. I would love to see them fued.

  • Winnipeg

Honestly I always thought it was Ziggler’s hair. I don’t know why but I always assumed Vince didn’t like his hair. Remember when he cut it to be taken more serious? And didn’t Vince also want Daniel Bryan to be clean cut before giving him the spot? It seems he likes the clean cut look, I duno.

    • Bob’s Diner

I doubt it. The Daniel Bryan thing was storyline – look at someone like Randy Orton. He has a beard and is covered in tattoos, and is only second backstage to John Cena

      • J Vomkrieg

Also, does anyone remember when Dolph changed his hair a few years ago?

He looked….. so boring and normal. It was like his character had gone. His normal hair was back in a month.

      • Xavier

What’s good bro, haven’t seen you post in here in awhile

        • Bob’s Diner

Hey bro! I’ve been quiet lately… post-WrestleMania is always my least favourite time in the pro-wrestling calendar. Still try to pop in here and annoy someone with my annoying opinions every so often.
What has been happening with you?

          • Xavier

I feel ya on that. It seems every Mania we get that really good post Mania RAW then things really slow down before picking up again in the Summer.,

It’s been the same ol same ol with me, just work work work lol. There was actually a tornado about 30 minutes from the rig I work on, it was insane too see

          • Bob’s Diner

Whoa dude that sounds crazy – did you guys get hit at all?

          • Xavier

Nah thankfully we didn’t. It did take out a n entire man camp about 30 minutes away from us and some small houses

          • Bob’s Diner

            Glad you are ok!

  • Avalanchian

I agree with the whole HHH and Steph always using their power too much. It’s always a threat of losing a job if someone tries to 1-UP them.

    • David F

Thats why I want Hogan to be babyface authority role to balance out Trips and Steph. you can play off real life WWE stock going down and board of directors hiring Hogan to spike up interest.

I thought Ziggler helped Batista to have his best match since his return on smackdown. Ziggler has the it factor and it sucks Vince doesnt see that. Maybe having Flair as his manager could help him get to main event

      • J Vomkrieg

No no no no no, a thousand times no.

After watching Hogan in an authority role at TNA, I never wish to see that again. It was awful.

        • Mike Elliott

Think about it man: Hogan in an on-screen authority roll in WWE would be totally different than in TNA. In TNA he really did have power. In WWE, he’d just be as much as a figure head as Maddox. It might not be so bad.

      • Holden Patrick Harris

if they want a babyface authority role, bring sting in for that. let hogan do his random appearances. or an even better scenario which most likely wont happen, bring shane mcmahon back as that role.

        • David F

I would wait on bringing in Sting until Wrestlemania season. The majority of WWE audience dont watch TNA so they wont know about Hogan’s TNA role. Plus Vince and Trips can check Hulk’s ego at the door. Whoever it is WWE should bring in a babyface legend to counter Triple H and Steph

          • Holden Patrick Harris

i wouldnt wait till then. survivor series at the latest. but the firing of brad maddox made an opening to insert a big name. bring in this new authority figure at payback. and create a storyline with whoever it is eventually settling it with triple h at summerslam. i wanna say sting, but scott hall would be great, or dusty rhodes. that would even give cody rhodes more of a storyline having him fight for his father and stuff like that.

    • david

Yeah them being “the authority” completely negates any “power” or decision making by the Raw and Smackdown General Managers. I feel like HHH and Stephanie won’t abandon that role until someone with starpower can come into those roles or they are forced to take a step back due to behind the scene things.

  • Big Boss Man’s Breakfast

Steph needs to be humilated like she use to back in the day like when Jericho shoved apie in her face. When she plays the spoilt humilated daddys girl thats when you see the best out of Stephanie

    • Steve pritchard

I think she gets embarrassed at payback Sunday. That’s about the only logical direction they can go without fans getting bored . Plus that whole thing has swerve wrote all over it .

      • Rayner Chee-bai

sadly enough both of them is too big of an ego to be humiliated in a pay-per-view show. let alone giving fans what they wanted. too much for ‘best for business’ huh?

  • Evon Callaway Bitterweed Reese

Ziggler was going places with Vicky at his side. I think he rushed going on his own and has paid for it ever since. If I remember right it was his idea about going alone and not from Vince. I agree Ziggler is a great performer but maybe getting rid of Vicky was not the choice at that time.

  • jdl

Ziggler is someone who, while talented, lacks that certain oomph that a guy needs to get to the top of the card. The braggart gimmick can only get you so far and as a result he’s somewhat shallow in potential. A minor revamp of his gimmick would help push him through that glass ceiling.

As for the Yes Movement losing steam, of course it’s losing steam as not only has it already accomplished its goal, but Bryan is now out injured after his eight hundredth feud with Kane. If he were to be on the receiving end of a beat down at the next PPV to take him off TV long enough to return a Money in the Bank, he’d gain a lot of that momentum back. Have him win the MITB contract, cash in at Summerslam in the same way that Orton did last year, and you’d have momentum back in his favor and the cheers would grow.

    • Guest

Exactly what I said. Except I would have him keep the briefcase until like Survivor Series.

The WWE seems out of touch with this. Smdh!

  • BigMike

waqs never really a fan of HHH, IMO was a good worker with decent mic skills but, as I have heard from several old timers, HHH is good but he is the guy that works with “THE GUY” …..IMO it would be cool to see Maddox come back and bring up the contract and “no touching management” clause….. Bring him face and it will also less the power trip…. Why is Zayn not up in WWE yet? They should not have made him take his mask off….. El Generico was awesome and yes Zayn is so good it wont matter as much but Zayn needs to be called up,

  • Bob’s Diner

Because feuding with Kane really is exciting and furthers people’s enthusiasm

    • Bob’s Diner

I’m not married to Brie Bella. And I think everyone wants the underdog thing to go away. But this is WWE and they don’t know how to promote babyfaces any other way. Look at John Cena – they have only stopped that with him for the last 9 months. And that’s after 10 years of him winning titles and beating everyone in WWE.

Time will tell about the ‘Yes!’ chant. I’m sure many people said the same thing about ‘If you smell what The Rock is cooking’

      • j vomkrieg

Dude, it was only a few years ago that Cena didn’t get a sniff of the title for 400+ days. I’d say Cena has been out of the title picture far more than he has been in it for the last 3 years. So while i agree thats what they did with Cena, they changed it a while back, only really packpedalling to build “Twice in a lifetime”

        • Bob’s Diner

I’m not talking about titles – I’m talking about booking him as the underdog. They even tried to promote Cena as the underdog in his first match against The Rock, despite winning more titles and being more experienced. They only started dropping that before SummerSlam last year, when he started saying that the future of WWE goes through him.

It isn’t a knock on Cena – it is just WWE don’t seem to know how to book someone as a top babyface without using that underdog angle

    • Xavier

I actually agree with a lot of what you’rd saying. But I’m willing to wait a couple months once Bryan gets healthy and once he moves past the Authority and starts feuding with other guys

      • Bob’s Diner

This. I’m hardly the world’s biggest Daniel Bryan fan, but gosh he’s only had the title a month and has been out with a neck injury for a few weeks. Can’t really judge his title reign so far as a failure.

        • Xavier

That’s why I said I’m willing too wait. I wanna see what he does when he’s done feuding with the Authority before I say he’s run was a success or a flop. I agree that him constantly getting screwed over by the Authority (kayfabe) or booking (reality) actually got him even more over with fans tbough

  • Mandy

Its sad that the WWE Divas are not being used to their full potential in the ring I hate the little time they get and what is worse is what WWE writes for them during that time. There is no substance to their matches. I really miss the days LIta and Trish were in WWE.

  • Malboja

    Bring back jake roberts
    I miss him 🙁
