Dixie Carter Announces A Former World Champion Is Coming To Impact Wrestling This Thursday

In part of TNA Wrestling‘s new 24/7 “Where the action never ends” creative direction, a video was just released showing Dixie Carter as she announces that she got a phone call from a former World Champion and that person will be coming to Impact Wrestling this Thursday from Cincinnati, Ohio. She states that she can’t wait to, “welcome him home.” Below is the official video or watch it at this link:

Does “former World Champion” mean it’s not just exclusive to those who held the World Heavyweight Championship in TNA?

    • Jesse Sherwood

It’s possible, but the wording of “Welcome him home.” makes me believe it is someone from TNA’s history. I gave some thoughts as to who above, but if it isn’t just in TNA history, one has to assume that it could also be an MMA world champion, considering TNA’s track record with it.

      • The Breaker

I agree that either Jarrett or Shamrock seem most obvious to appear. But Dixie has a reputation of underwhelming results whenever she goes on Twitter for these kind of announcements, so I’m half-expecting something disastrous.

        • Jesse Sherwood

Same here Breaker, but we will find out on Thursday!

          • The Breaker

Well, it’s been revealed that the former World Title holder is… Pacman Jones. He was apparently a Tag Team Champion, and played for the Bengals (Hence the “Welcome him home” comment). I wish I was kidding.

And TNA has let Dixie jump the shark yet again… Would someone PLEASE superglue her mouth shut?

  • Paul

Ugh here we go again. Given Dixie’s track record of promising things that turn out to be utter duds, does this mean that former World Heavyweight champion David Arquette has signed to TNA?

  • JJ

    It’s gonna be Anderson.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Well, if you go into TNA’s history, there are only 5 people it could be that aren’t under contract currently for either TNA or WWE. (6 if you count AJ Styles’ storyline absence.) Jeff Jarret, Rhyno, Raven, RVD, and Ken Shamrock. Considering TNA’s track record, I’m betting on either JJ or Shamrock, leaning more towards Shamrock due to the recent Frank Shamrock special that aired on Spike.

    • Jesse Sherwood

JJ below reminded me that Anderson isn’t technically under a contract, if you believe Kayfabe. So we could say 7 possibilities.

      • Mike McCarthy

I think it’s gotta be Anderson

    • Scott Davies

I think Jeff Jarret since he would be back stage a lot. I think Jeff is kinda needed back on TV.

      • Jesse Sherwood

Jarrett would be a welcome sight for me, as I have always loved JJ since his USWA days, but I feel that may be a bit too predictable. But given TNA’s current creative direction, that is probably the route they will take.

        • Scott Davies

Predictable yes, but Jarrett has been off TV for 2-3 years. With no mention of him at all. Jarrett is a fresh face right now & the only veteran that is not in for TNA for a pay day or a vacation. I think Jarrett would create a buzz. I don’t think TNA will get better overnight. It does seem they are taking small steps to recover. Creating a long term plan. Lets face it Hulk Hogan & Eric Bischoff left a huge amount of damage. Bad storylines are going to happen till they can rebuild. I am starting to wonder if the sale rumours were even just TNA trying to get people talking about them. Dixie sucks in her current role, but people are talking. Jeff Jarrett returning would bring a positive spin to all of this. Territories back in the day, when it would start to see the crowd die, would pull stuff like this all the time to make there territory hot again.

          • Jesse Sherwood

I couldn’t have said it better Scott! Glad I’m not the only one who remembers these kinds of things from the territorial days! I can’t tell you how many times they pulled this with Bill Dundee!

          • Scott Davies

I am not old enough to remember the territory days myself, but I research wrestling & listen to a lot of interviews. I watched Zeb Coulters shoot on Kayfabe commentaries & here even said that’s what a bookers job was to build. If they were not getting numbers, the booker was fired. Same with the wrestlers. Daniel Bryan a hell of a wrestler, hottest star there is at the moment. Did not draw on the ratings, side of things. Hulk Hogan while a well known name is laughable now. You get a casual that watched Hogan as a kid. Think :what Hulk Hogan is still wrestling? He has to be 70″ TNA need s a star power guy & the whole time Hogan was there. There was no face of the company or top Babyface other than Hogan.

    • Mike Love

      What about Monty Brown?

      • Jesse Sherwood

Monty never held a World Title in TNA, be it the current one or the NWA one.

  • Bob’s Diner

    Maybe Hulk Hogan is back?

    • Bob’s Diner

      Or Vince Russo??
