ECW on Sci-Fi Opener:
We start with a recap of C.M. Punk joining the New Breed at the end of last week's show.
In the arena:
In the ring to start the show, the New Breed stood tall. Striker with a sharp-looking suit on. I like him in the role of "CEO" of the New Breed. Burke's the figure head. Thorn and Cor Von are the enforcers. Ariel is the...well...office tease. Burke took the mic and said one man has had months to make a decision and that man made his decision. "The future looks better than ever for ECW," Burke said. He then introduced C.M. Punk as the newest member. Punk came out with a big smile on his face, then he shook hands with the guys and flirted with Ariel. Burke held up Punk's arm, then Punk posed to a chorus of boos. Burke asked Punk to explain why he chose the New Breed. Punk said he prefers to keep his reasons to himself, and it's obvious why he made his decision. He said all that matters now is that he is a member of the New Breed. Burke took the mic back and said Punk's too modest. RVD's music then interrupted and he walked out on stage with a disappointed look on his face. The fans chanted R-V-D, then Burke tried to get in a word, but RVD cut him off. He told Burke that no one came to hear him talk, so he needs to shut up. RVD addressed Punk and said he made him a personal offer to join the guys who literally broke their backs to build ECW. He said their goal now is to make Punk live to regret his decision. Burke then ripped on RVD and said RVD is obviously holding on to some regret. RVD agreed that he's harboring bitter feelings, then he challenged Burke to a singles match tonight so he could take out his frustrations. Burke hesitated as he thought it over, then Punk took the mic and accepted the challenge himself as a leader of the New Breed. Burke was a bit taken back, though, and he snapped that he wasn't hesitating about the challenge. Punk conceded and Burke accepted the challenge. Punk was initially upset, but then he had this look on his face like he knew he just set up Burke for a match with RVD by getting inside his head and challenging his pride.

Snitsky vs. Nunzio
Nunzio came to the ring waving the Italian flag for the opening match. Joey Styles then talked about the Cinderella story from last night, with the former Russian, now Italian fan winning the IC Title. Snitsky came out, and Styles said Nunzio told him he went to see da Vinci's famous painting of the Last Supper knowing he would be facing Snitsky tonight. The fans were clearly behind Nunzio. Tazz, making a comparison to Snitsky's ruthlessness in the ring, tried to describe Napoleon as a ruthless Italian dictator. Styles tried to make the save that at least he was from Europe. Nunzio made a brief comeback 1:00 in, but Snitsky cut him off with a hard clothesline. He then hit the big boot to score the pin and put an end to the Italian clichés.
Winner - Snitsky
Backstage:
Backstage, Burke and RVD talked privately. Burke wanted to know if Punk thinks Burke is scared of RVD. Punk said that in all honesty, he thinks Burke is scared. Burke smirked, then told Punk that if he's going to be a member of the New Breed, he needs to fall in line. Punk quietly repeated Burke's line about falling in line, then he slowly walked away. Burke was concerned. A little too early to explicitly tease dissension, but I'm interested to see where this is going.

Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman vs. Marcus Cor Von and Kevin Thorn
Dreamer and Sandman came through the crowd drinking beer and Dreamer waved an Italian flag. Brief "E-C-W" chant after the opening bell. Sandman went for a top rope Heineken-rana in the opening minute, but Cor Von cut him off and landed a clothesline. Styles reasoned that it's difficult to climb a turnbuckle when you're hammered. Cor Von and Thorn then exchanged tags and worked on Sandman. The fans went into some soccer chants during the isolation on Sandman. Dreamer finally took a hot tag at 4:00, then he caught Thorn in the corner with a sunset flip. He grabbed the bottom rope in between two and three to secure a three count to win. Replays showed that Thorn might have picked up a shoulder blade before three and the ref was out of position to see Dreamer's quick grab of the ropes.
Winners - Tommy Dreamer and The Sandman
Backstage:
Backstage, Punk talked to Matt Striker while watching the end of the match on a monitor. Punk said the New Breed doesn't need a bunch of guys falling in line. They need free-thinkers. Striker was non-committal to Punk's idea, but he smiled politely. Punk then walked away.
In the arena:
They went to a camera shot of a bright red Italian sports car, then Bobby Lashley's music hit. He walked out with his ECW Title belt while sporting a suit, but with his dress shirt untucked. Odd look. Lashley then rolled footage from last night on Raw of him helping Santino Marella win the IC Title from Umaga. Back live, Lashley was all smiles. He then introduced Santino, who came out with the title belt. Styles gave us some background that Santino has been training in Canada to become a wrestler, then he just so-happened to be in Italy visiting relatives when he stumbled on the opportunity. Good attempt at delivering some background info that sounds half-way legit. Santino became emotional holding the IC Title belt, then he cut a promo in Italian, thanking everyone. Lashley and Santino then held up their respective title belts. Played well live, but Average Joe sitting at home doesn't care.
Backstage:
Backstage, Punk told Cor Von and Thorn not to let a little setback hold them down. He gave them a pep talk to get back up on their feet. Punk turned to walk away, then he slowed down when he spotted Elijah Burke hanging out in the corner. Burke hesitated, then told Punk he needs to learn to fall in line. He said he doesn't have a problem with Punk giving some advice, but... Punk cut him off, then said he knows Burke's concerned about his match with RVD, so he has his back tonight. Burke, obviously not talking about the match, stood quietly and mulled over Punk's pattern of behavior.
Referee: Scott Armstrong
Rob Van Dam vs. Elijah Burke
The start:
The bell rang and they went nose-to-nose in center ring. Burke put a finger in RVD's chest, then he slapped him across the face. RVD then answered with a quick kick square to the head for a big reaction. Burke quickly recovered with a punch to the face and he went on the offensive. Solid commentary from Styles and Tazz analyzing the subtleties of why Burke might have paused before accepting RVD's challenge in the opening segment.
Mid-match notes:
RVD came back with a turnaround splash on Burke, which drew an E-C-W chant. He then missed with a shoulder block, and Burke went for a roll up, but RVD kicked out at two. Burke then applied a hammerlock before catching RVD with a single-arm DDT for a close nearfall. He continued to focus on the left shoulder and surrounding body parts. RVD made a comeback at 7:00 with his good right arm before landing eight punches in the corner. He followed with a monkey flip, then referee Scott Armstrong took an accidental roundhouse kick to the face when Burke ducked. RVD then measured Burke for a frog splash, but he realized the ref was down. Styles said the one, two, three is ultimately what RVD is looking for, so it does no good to hit five star if he can't get a pin. RVD then went for Rolling Thunder, but Burke got his knees up.
The Finish:
C.M. Punk then came to ringside and retrieved a chair. He slid the chair into the ring, but he put a little too much mustard on the chair and it went right by Burke's hands into RVD's awaiting hands. RVD then popped Burke square in the face with the chair and Punk put on his best oops face, like Jim from The Office. RVD followed up with a five star frog splash and the ref came back to life to make a three count.
Winner - Rob Van Dam
The Aftermath:
After the match, RVD checked on the ref like a good babyface, then he celebrated with the fans. Punk slid into the ring and checked on Burke, who was upset. They wrapped up with Punk doing his best to over-apologize.
