Paige beat Alicia Fox in the semi-finals, not the finals.

    • Chris

He didn’t say the final. He said finals with an ‘s’, as in quarter finals thru to the final.

I didn’t say “final” either. But, in tournament terminology, there is a difference between “finals”, “semi-finals” and “quarter-finals”. Richard wrote “finals”, which means “final match in the tournament” and it wasn’t.

It was just a simple mistake on his part, no big deal. You, however, are incorrect. Your example would mean that it’d be okay in basketball to call the Elite Eight matches “finals” and that isn’t how things work.
