Gay Wrestlers, Best Non-American Worker, HHH Taking Over, Problem In WWE

Earlier this week Jason Collins (NBA player) came out as the first active player in any of the four major sports leagues in the United States as a homosexual. How do you think the wrestling world will handle a gay wrestler? Would you see any issues in the locker room or with the fans and do you know of any wrestlers that are gay?

We’ve already been there! Orlando Jordan is bisexual and has worked for both WWE and TNA Wrestling. The only other name I can think of off the top of my head is Chris Kanyon, an “out” homosexual, who died back in 2010. Kanyon worked for both WWE and WCW. These are two “out” workers but I’m sure there are others that don’t want their personal business out for the world to know. While I’m not aware of how either were treated, I’m sure it’s just like anywhere else. There were probably a few bad apples that poked fun but by large, I don’t think it was a big deal. What Jason Collins did took courage and it would take courage for an active WWE or TNA star to come out, however, I feel too much is being made of it. There’s no need to start a political or religious debate over the issue – some people are straight, others are gay. It’s just the way things are. It makes no difference to me. Can someone work and are they entertaining? That’s all that matters. The same goes with my favorite professional athletes, can they play? I could honestly care less about what happens in their bedrooms as it’s none of my business.

In your opinion, who is the best non-American wrestler to ever set foot in a WWE ring (not counting Canadians)?

I don’t like lists, because lists can be widely debated. However, William Regal, Fit Finlay and “The British Bulldog” Davey Boy Smith all have to be mentioned. I’m sure there are others as well but WWE has had an abundant amount of talent from areas outside of North America. How about workers like Taka Michinoku? We could sit here all day and name names, however, those are some that come to mind immediately – I guarantee you I’m forgetting some.

Do you think Triple H is under a lot of pressure to prove himself not only to Vince McMahon but the rest of the locker room?

Triple H has a high-pressure position but he’s doing just fine so far. Hunter is the entire reason Bruno Sammartino agreed to be inducted into the WWE Hall of Fame, something Vince McMahon himself doubted. He’s also got his hand on developmental, which is thriving. I’m not opposed to Hunter taking over for Vince and think it’s a really smart move. Triple H eats, sleeps and breathes pro wrestling. He’s worked his way up from the bottom and has a wrestling mentality, this is something that gets him respect and nullifies the argument that his marriage to Stephanie McMahon gave him his spot in the business. News flash haters, Hunter was a top guy when he was dating Chyna. I don’t agree with everything Triple H has done but it’s hard to say anything bad about him either.

This week on Raw we saw Dolph Ziggler vs. Kofi Kingston for the 22nd time on TV/PPV combined. Do you agree there is a lack of meaningful midcard talent? And that TV could benefit from having the likes of John Morrison, MVP, Shelton Benjamin, Carlito, etc… around?

If that “twenty-second” statistic is accurate, kudos for that – that’s good research. Talent or the lack of it isn’t WWE’s problem. WWE has plenty of talent and a stocked developmental system to boot. What you saw on WWE Raw was a burnout writing team looking to fill three hours with uncertainty regarding John Cena, no CM Punk and the transition without part-timers like The Rock. I agree the company needs more talent at the top but this starts with the booking. Why is Antonio Cesaro being humbled? Hasn’t Team Hell No run it’s course? There are guys capable of carrying the company but this falls on bad writing, fueled by political agendas backstage and an overworked creative team.

Question #2: The Great Khali, duh!

    • Loren Goldstein

Are we sure that Braden Walker was an american?

      • http://www.facebook.com/ModernDayWitch Johnny Kaduces White

Cena referring to Brad Madox as Braden Walker on Raw is the first thing in forever that Cena has said that I was like, “OK I can’t stand your character but I give you credit for that one”.

  • Blargle

Oh, it takes SO MUCH COURAGE to come out these days, especially as a celebrity. SO MUCH COURAGE AND HARDSHIP. It’s not like the establishment will knee-jerk support anyone who’s gay, for any reason. It’s not like you are now PROHIBITED from criticizing anyone who’s gay, because LITERALLY ANY CRITICISM AT ALL IS NOW HOMOPHOBIA.

    SO MUCH COURAGE.

    MY ASS.

      • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

Reading all your comments i think your actually homophobic xavier

        • Xavier

I’m not homophobic at all. I could careless who’s gay and who’s not. Coming out and saying your gay just so you can make money doesn’t make you a hero, that’s my point.

          • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

And what proof do you have thats the case? Maybe its pure coincidence or maybe its like i said above he saw the opportunity to mske a positive impact and took it

          • Xavier

Because he’s being sponsored by Nike now and now he’s more famous & rich then he’s ever been. Coincidence my ass.

    • http://www.facebook.com/justinneerajlal Justin Lal

The media gets on Americans for having Homophobia and Islamophobia, yet what happens when those two mix??? Oh that’s right, Radical Islams murder homosexuals but the media is silent! Americans may be against homosexuals, but do we physically harm them? No! I’m sick of the hypocrisy in this country.

      • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

You do realise theres thousands of violent hates crimes in your country every year right? Thats american homosexual hate crimes aswell read a damn book or a newspaper

    • EricDraven86

The guy probably wasn’t concerned about too much criticism, he was probably more concerned about a hate crime. Those still happen ya know…

  • http://www.facebook.com/androidodnetnin Skip Mathias

#1: “I could honestly care less about what happens in their bedrooms as it’s none of my business.” Amen!

  • Xavier

BS! What Jason Collins did wasn’t courageous at all. It’s funny how Collins a player who averaged less then 1 point a game this season who was probably on the verge of being cut this offseason decides that after 12 seasons in the NBA he’s gonna come out of the closet only days after Nike announced that they would endorse/sponsor the first openly gay athlete in the major 4 sports who decides to come out of the closet. This was a business move on the part of Collins and nothing more, he is in no way a hero nor should he be celebrated as one. Coming out of the closet in a country that’s more liberal then it’s ever been doesn’t take courage, especially when you consider that Hollywood/entertainment business has openly supported gays/lesbians for years. Coming out of the closet in the middle east takes courage, coming out here in America where one of the biggest fashions is men wearing skinny jeans doesn’t take any at all. Oh and BTW, Collins is married to a woman by the way. Why would marry a female if he’s gay? What if a guy came out and announced that he was attracted to overly obsessed women, does that make him a hero? Jason Collins is NO Jackie Robinson.

    • Mark McMark

      and they call me Mark.

      • Xavier

If the definition of being a mark is telling it like it is then I guess I am a Mark. I’m pretty sure since CM Punk supports the gay/lesbian movement that everybody else on here will follow his lead.

        • http://www.facebook.com/justinneerajlal Justin Lal

That’s probably why CM Punk’s biggest cheerleader is also supportive of gays.

          • Mark McMark

Maybe we’re supportive of gays because it’s the right thing to do. Live and let others live. Perhaps if you thought for yourself, you wouldn’t care so much about what others are doing…

    • http://www.facebook.com/justinneerajlal Justin Lal

Jason Collins Sucks… and he’s bad at basketball!

I’m sick and tired of people claiming he’s a hero. It’s sad that on the same day the media was celebrating Collins they are laughing at Tim Tebow for getting released from the Jets. Society sucks right now as we celebrate a man of sin (Collins) and disregard a man of faith (Tebow). I have no problem with Collins living his lifestyle — I have a problem with how the media condones his lifestyle. All this does is tears down society, but that’s what the media wants after all.

      • Chris

Tebow sucks! Maybe he can get with Collins and they can suck each other!

      • Mark McMark

Oh heavens, no! Tim Tebow is soo persecuted. It must be so hard being a devout member of the world’s largest religion AND a millionaire.

      • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

Hes a hero because he stopped hiding his sexuality not because hes good/bad at basketball he made a example for society which is a very good thing and nobody should hide who they really are

        • TheBigKing1

          Exactly

        • Xavier

He’s not a hero, he hid the fact that was he gay for years and waited too come out when he saw an opportunity too make money off of his sexual preference. His a smart business man who saw an opportunity and that’s it. Glenn Burke is a true hero, he came out when it wasn’t socially acceptable and at a time when gays were ridiculed in this country, there was also no money involved.

          • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

No like zachary quinto when he came out not for money they both waited so it made the most positive impact

      • TheBigKing1

        So ignorant

      • Lebron James

A man of sin? What the hell is wrong with you? You’re a disgusting excuse for a human. People like you are the reason people hate religion. If you could be a littler more like Richard, who’s a Cristian, and still doesn’t judge other human beings, then maybe your own life would be a littler better you dead beat loser. Out of respect for other Cristians here I won’t belittle your faith.

      • Lagoona

This is not fox news. Can you please shut the hell up. I am sick of your ignorant comments. This site is about wrestling not your simple mindedness. Live and let live, just because you do not like something does not mean everyone else in the world has to live according to your disgusting hateful homophobic ideas.

    • http://www.facebook.com/robert.olley.7 Robert Olley

So your saying that collins isnt gay he just said that for the money right? Youve been watching the simpsons i think episode flaming moe sounds alot like your theory

      • Xavier

Yeah it’s a possibility. He’s been involved with a woman for 8 years now. Now all of a sudden he’s gay, and that’s just a few days after Nike said they would sponsor the 1st openly gay athlete. He’s not a hero, that’s just a smart business move on his part too make more money and too become more famous. I do t blame him for wanting to make more money but I hate how he pretends like he’s doing this to start some sort of movement for other gays when he’s really doing it for the money. It doesn’t take courage to come out of the closet in America where it’s been socially acceptable to be gay for a couple of decades now. Coming out and saying your gay in the Middle East is an heroic act, doing it here is not.

    • TheBigKing1

      Hmm

    • George Waldman

Why would he marry a woman if he’s gay? Obviously, to hide that fact from everyone.

      • Xavier

So he mislead a women into marrying him even though he had no interest in her only too break her heart later. that makes him a HERO now? Or him HIDING the fact that he was gay for 12 years only to finally come out ONLY when Nike said they would pay & sponsor the first athlete to come out the closet makes him a HERO?

        • George Waldman

Yes, that’s EXACTLY what he did. When the story broke, his wife said she had no idea he was gay. For some gay men, they take the deception even further by actually having sex with their wives and becoming fathers.

    • Smart Mark

Was this your own way of coming out Xavier?

      • Xavier

Oh look my favorite groupie is back. Somebody already told that joke, your about 4 days late. Keep working at it kid, you’ll come up with something original one of these days.

        • Smart Mark

          Are you hitting on me?

  • Dangerous Lee

Since we’re on the topic. When is Xavier and Justin Lal coming out the closet? It’s obvious they are dating…

    • Xavier

Still telling your lame ass sorry jokes I see

      • Lagoona

He just tells it as it is.

        • Dangerous Lee

          Teach…..LOL

        • Xavier

LOL, you guys probably don’t even know what a vagina looks like.

          • Dangerous Lee

I think it’s pretty obvious that the virgin here is YOU. Seriously, that’s your main comeback. You can do better than that.

          • Razmos

I think its sad that you guys are sitting there calling eachother gay and virgins, its something my kids would run around calling people in the playground!!

          • Lagoona

Oh what a good comeback. Maybe the vagina expert should should explain to us what it looks like.

      • Winnipeg

Can’t be that lame, it got 19 likes

    • TheBigKing1

      LOL

    • Winnipeg

      ROTFLOL, Zing!

  • Jaryd

Why did you do it, Richard? Don’t bring anything up about gay debates or you get a whole pile of block-capital, poorly written comments lol

However, I will say, being an Athiest it is nice to see a religious man such as yourself totally tolerant of gay people and seeing their life choices as being up to them!

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

Thanks Jaryd. I do consider myself to be a Christian, just not with all the stereotypes. The key is keeping the bible in its proper context. When one tries to make it a science book or a “rule guide,” they’re doomed to a sea of paradoxes.

      • Lebron James

You’re a good person, Richard. That’s why I respect the hell out of you. I wish more Christians could be like you.

      • Lagoona

Good for you Richard, I wish more Christians were like you. I respect you and think you are a good person as well.

    • Matt

Totally agree with this. I hate the religious types that feel compelled to actually call homosexuality a sin. A lot of my friends are homosexuals and I, for one, hold theme in no different regard to my straight friends. They breathe the same air, eat the same food and lead the same life.

  • Nostaljack

Pat Patterson absolutely was a wrestler for many years.

    • Xavier

And for the record I don’t watch the Simpsons.

  • Lebron James

The WWE writers are pathetic. They have a full god damn week to write material for the next show, yet every week the show lacks creativity. Why don’t they hire new, creative, enthusiastic writers that have the love and passion for wrestling that the viewers have? These current guys couldn’t write their names in a week, let alone a show.

    • Matt

Yea, they do have a week. But do you think that’s how easy it is? You think they write it and vince goes “yea that’s great! Now keep going!”? He doesn’t. He vetoes, he orders rewrites, he scraps entire scripts. It’s not as easy as you’re making out.

  • http://www.facebook.com/scott.davies.391 Scott Davies

My answer to these: Times has changed since Gays were excluded from things because of their preferences. Gay Marriage people still have a problem with… Why? There is no reason why & should not have a reason why. Id say get with the times. I had no problem with Orland Jordan’s gimmick in TNA. As a heel it worked & was different. I thought the team of him & Eric Young was entertaining.
You got Finlay, Bulldog, Regal. But it also falls on the style you are into.
Triple H gets what needs to get over & what will work. He is not worrying about pop culture live Vince is, Triple H is focused on the product. I also agree with Richard on the way Triple H getting over
This may be burnt out booking, but its what they know will be a good match. A feud can last for years in pro wrestling & in the day a booker would probably book this for months. cooled it off for a year & do it again. It all comes down to what draws & WWE will push him. You love him you go to see him win. You hate him, you go to see him get beat. That’s the draw

    • Matt

      you weren’t asked.

  • Smart Mark

The thing i don’t like is that back in the day, both Raw and SD had about 4 to 6 main eventers on each show. For example, Raw: Jonh Cena, Edge, Randy Orton, Triple H, HBK. SD: Batista, King Booker, Rey Mysterio, Undertaker, Mr. Kennedy. But now is seems like the entire WWE only has CM Punk and John Cena to rely on as their main event guys. Even the WH Champion Dolph Ziggler is booked as nothing more that an upper mid-carder. And guys that should be main eventing like Daniel Bryan, Randy Orton, Sheamus, Damien Sandow, Cody Rhodes, Antonio Cesaro are being comforted by the mid card.
