How The 30-Man Rumble Is Booked, Input From Commentators, WWE Stages, Wellness Tests

How much of the 30-man Royal Rumble is scripted, is it much different from normal singles/tag matches in WWE?

We always have a lot of interest from readers in how the 30-man Royal Rumble match is booked. It’s booked just like all the other matches – the creative team comes up with a plan, pass it on to the producers and they communicate it to the talent involved in the match. Talent are then told who will eliminate who and how it will happen. Obviously, the better workers are going to get to work the riskier spots and will have more freedom in what they can and can’t do in the match.

Are the reactions of the commentators genuine or scripted when a worker comes out?

The work of Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler, Josh Mathews and Booker T is a mixture of their own input and the input of production in their ears. Make no mistake about it, Vince McMahon has a direct line of communication to his announce team and if there is something he wants said or emphasized, he feeds it to them. With that being said, I haven’t heard of the plans for the Royal Rumble announce team.

Why does WWE not change their stages more often? It gets boring having the same stage for both shows.

WWE has a formula down that is very cost-effective. The same staff in terms of production, cameramen, ring crew and truck drivers are used for both Raw and Smackdown. For pay-per-views, the company alters their stages and the setup but weekly TVs are done in a way that maximizes efficiency while minimizing costs.

How does WWE test their talent for the Wellness Policy? Is it urine, hair or something else?

WWE Wellness Tests are urine tests that are administrated on a random basis. Because there have been incidents where workers have tried to “cheat,” the specimens are collected under supervision. There are others tests conducted as part of the company Wellness Policy that you can read about at this link.

What kind of incidents have there been? What wrestler tried to cheat in the past?

I think I recall reading a wrestler got suspended because he tried to use a prosthetic penis when giving a sample. I don't remember who it was, and how a fake penis would help but yeah that was one of the more colorful "cheating" stories I've heard.

I've heard a few people complain about the stage being too boring or bland. Personally, I love the idea of an absolutely massive LED wall displaying a wrestler's logo. Seeing, for instance, CM Punk's Ramones-inspired "Seal of Hardcore" logo emblazoned on a 50 foot wall makes him seem like the big deal he truly is. But that's just the way I see it!

There’s a really interesting interview with Mr. Anderson where he basically blasts the WWE for their ways of putting matches together. to paraphrase what he said, he said tsp the writer literally tells a worker when, how, and where A spot will be done. Like your gonna lock up with this guy, then he’ll throw you in the corner and you’ll hit him and he’ll duck ad come back abd give you a hip toss. So yeah I would assume the rumble is the same way as each worker knows their role. It’s very easy to understand the concept if you think about it. Sometimes you see one worker next to the other and they are near the ropes and you wonder why isn’t he doing anything with that guy? That’s because he’s not supposed to touch him.

Didn't we already know all that?

The RR booking will be interesting. The obvious winner is Jericho so he can meet CM Punk at WM. This may be right out there, but Drew McIntyre is still around after 4 firings and is getting both air time and crowd reactions. Stranger things have happened but Drew v Daniel Bryan could be the headline act at WM??? Remember Drew is VKM's chosen one.
