IC Cup, Jericho’s WWE Contract, Goldust, Wrestlemania Plans For Undertaker

What happened to the Intercontinental Cup? WWE was heavily building it in their promotion for Main Event this week but after reading the taping results it looks like it wasn’t taped.

From what I can tell in reading the taping results for this week’s WWE Main Event, the Intercontinental Cup was not taped as you pointed out. Wade Barrett is teasing a major announcement for the competition on Twitter at 11 AM EST on Twitter. We’ll post it if it’s anything of note.

What is Chris Jericho’s contract status? Is he here until Wrestlemania or is it something more long term?

Chris Jericho is under a short-term WWE contract that has him working through Wrestlemania 29. He is scheduled for TVs and even some live events although it’s not a long-term deal from what I understand. At this point in Jericho’s career he wants to pursue his music as much as he wants to utilize his in-ring talents.

Is there any hope of having Cody Rhodes vs. Goldust at Wrestlemania 29?

It sure doesn’t look like it as Goldust worked the 30-man Royal Rumble match under a per shot deal. He still wants a Wrestlemania match against Cody and confirmed that here. Last year he tried to rally his Twitter followers into pushing WWE for the bout but it never happened.

Any word on Wrestlemania plans for The Undertaker?

Undertaker still hasn’t made a commitment to work Wrestlemania 29. We reported in October 2012 he was considering sitting the show out because he felt slighted. The belief was later that he would be on the show and now it’s believed he’s been more reluctant in part due to his health. A new plan involving Undertaker was pitched backstage Monday at Raw that you can read about at this link. In total, it’s all speculation until a deal is worked out to confirm him.

Taker should just retire before he can’t walk again. I think that Taker is the greatest big man ever the second greatest wwe star next to Austin, but the time has come to hang um up even Austin knew when enough was enough.

  • Winnipeg

If I was Undertaker I’d be slighted to if they brought up ending the streak.

    • Benjamin

I think I remember reading somewhere a while back he felt slighted because they were going to be putting more emphasis on The Rock and Brock Lesnar for this WrestleMania rather than ‘The Streak’.

      • Kris Mystery

If that is true then Taker needs to suck it up. Of course they are going to put more emphasis on wrestlers that fight more than once a year. Even Rock puts in a couple of months.

        • Uh DUH

Rock never got badly injured. There is a HUGE difference between rock and taker. WTF

          • Kris Mystery

Regardless of what the reason is a wrestler putting in the time should be the one getting the emphasis. I understand that Taker is hurting..and after a career such as his i’m not surprised. But at this point a Taker match isn’t much more than a bonus Wrestlemania match and they need to emphasize the wrestlers who are there day in and day out. (And in Rock’s case at least the few month build to Wrestlemania) It’s their time now.

Undertaker should sit this year’s out and retire when Wrestlemania xxxi goes to cowboy stadium

  • Rayner Chee-bai

Taker should retire for good and never again brought up the streak at WrestleMania against him. Build another superstar and his own WrestleMania streak as opposed to Taker’s streak like The Miz.

I would still love to see Taker compete at WM 30 and then retire. Taker v Lesnar match would be a huge draw for the WWE. Jericho has also earned the right to work a part-time schedule like HBK. I wonder if Jericho will remain face until Wrestlemania or turn heel again. At this point I think he should just remain face because people will cheer him regardless. I

Lesnar vs. Taker – not a good idea – Lesnar’s a big, careless, train wreck waiting to happen. Taker deserves far more respect than forcing him into a match with a guy that can’t remember his lines, talks like a little boy, and runs from his challenges.

I want to see Undertaker wrestle again and again, but I don’t want to see him seriously injured, and no matter what, The Undertaker should never lose at WM, he deserves it.

As much respect as I have for ‘Taker if he can’t or won’t put in the time to give a WM return match some sort of storyline buildup then he shouldn’t be on the card.
Simply showing up a few weeks before WM and staring an essentially random whoever down for ages isn’t going to cut it.
It worked for HHH because of the history behind the match – four years of direct history since that story stretched back to the ‘Taker Michaels match. Longer if you go further back through WWE history.

It won’t work for anyone else if he doesn’t come back and put the time in week after week to make his WM streak match relevant. Otherwise it’s a waste, just someone thrown against him for the sake of a match without any creative momentum behnd it.

Besides, if he sits out this WM people will be more interested if and when he returns after that. And if he doesn’t come back he hasn’t tarnished his legacy with a meaningless throwaway match. Also he’ll have the benefit of being able to walk, which is always a benefit.

and Lesnar collecting a salary for nothing makes it different than Taker not puttin in the time. Taker’s put in his fair share of time and then some, and has put on some of the best matches WWE has every had. He deserves much better than Lesnar.
