Impact Wrestling Genesis part 2 Results – 1/23/2014
From Huntsville, Alabama
Report by: Alex Barie of WrestlingNewsWorld.com

Impact Wrestling starts off with a video package showcasing Kurt Angle and Bobby Roode. They are battling in a Steel Cage match tonight. Who will be victorious? It switches to Magnus and Dixie Carter as they formed an alliance for Dixie to completely take over the company (as she already taken it over). Sting, however, is the thorn in the side and wants to see if Magnus can be the guy who he really says he is. Magnus puts the championship on the line tonight while Sting puts his contract on the line.

The camera is in the back with Dixie, Spud, and an attorney. Dixie is asking where Ethan is and where is Magnus. Magnus comes into the shot. The attorney states that someone who has an above average job quietly took over shares and is doing a hostile takeover. It has been going on for months. Dixie is starting to freak out. She says it is more about operations on her standpoint then business operations. Dixie says it has to be fair. Magnus questions it. Dixie says they other side asks for someone to be in Sting’s corner. Magnus doesn’t like it but is fine with it. He then wants it to be a no DQ and no count out match. The attorney says he can make it happen. Magnus says Sting is all over this. Dixie questions Magnus about Sting and then the attorney says he doesn’t care if it is Sting but it is an investor and he needs to find out. He tells Magnus to stand down. Magnus gets furious, but Dixie tells him to not to worry about it. He walks away and Dixie tells Spud to go with him. Spud leaves. Dixie apologizes to the attorney.

Music plays and here comes Magnus, Ethan Carter III, and Spud. They get right in the ring and Magnus grabs a mic. He asks if this his how Sting is going to play. Sting put his contract on the line and Magnus thought it was going to be a one-on-one match but Sting going around to the new investor to get his way. Magnus thought Sting was a man. Sting’s music plays and he comes out. He gets in the ring. He grabs a mic. He says Magnus is NOW ready to honor a deal. Is he doing the same deal where he tried to do it to AJ. Magnus says to not flip it onto him. He asks how much he paid but Sting says all he asks was for some back-up in his corner. Magnus says he knows it is no DQ and no count out. All or nothing. Sting has to make Magnus pin or submit. Magnus proved himself at Bound for Glory. He made Sting tap. Sting says he knows but he did what he always does and he got up and got his head in the game. He watched the tape from their match, so he knows Magnus more than Magnus knows Magnus. Magnus drops a mic. Sting says that is what separates champions from paper champions. Magnus didn’t do anything. He didn’t earn anything. He trade honor for greed. The crowd chants, “Paper champion!” Sting tells Magnus that he lost the respect of everyone. Magnus SLAPS Sting right across the face and Spud starts to laugh. Sting starts to laugh and then stops and then goes right after Magnus with punches and chops. Spud and Ethan go behind Sting and attack him. Just then, Samoa Joe’s music plays and he runs down the ramp and gets in the ring. He closelines Ethan and Spud elves. Magnus goes around the ring. They meet on the stage. Sting gets back on the mic and states that Samoa Joe will be in his corner tonight.

        BOOO!

  • KRS

Hey everyone, been looking forward to this. New year, new start (hopefully!)

  • David Jr.

What better way to start a show then four people talking in a hall.

    • Jesse Sherwood

What a way to kill the show early!

      • David Jr.

        Who was the one guy?

        • Jesse Sherwood

          No idea.

    • The Breaker

I didn’t mind at the start but this is going on a little too long.

  • KRS

I’m glad Spud has managed to stick around after winning Bootcamp. When I saw him debut at Wembley, was proud as hell but always feared the worse

    • Jesse Sherwood

Spud is really growing into his character. I’m quite impressed.

  • The Breaker

Can someone explain why the “new investor” can influence the booking of the match?

  • Jesse Sherwood

Well, Spud in two segments so far helps my points! +4!

    • David Jr.

Last time I saw you were in the lead. Are you still in the lead?

We’ll see after tonight! Hopefully Bully and EY appear as well.

      Nice!!

  • Jesse Sherwood

Got to love the Paper Champion chants! Sadly, the booking of Magnus warrants them…

    • The Breaker

The fact that they’re attempting to build up Magnus, the company’s brightest young star, by making him into an undeserving “paper champion” says a lot…

  • Jesse Sherwood

A pole match! This will be great! *Sarcasm*

    • KRS

      Russo must be the investor

    • David Jr.

Why not make it a ladder match. I know some will say it be a rip off of the MITB. But its not like they haven’t copied WWE before and vice versa.

  • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

For those asking, a Pole Match does count as a stipulation type match for TNANews.com’s Fantasy Wrestling.

    • Jesse Sherwood

Man! This will possibly usurp me in the rankings! But Spud again brings me to +6!

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Maybe he will win his match! Haha

        • Jesse Sherwood

I can hope! That will really rocket me up!

  • KRS

Spud mentioning the Blossom Twins makes me sad, they could of rocked in the Knockouts Division

  • Nostaljack

Just in time for more bad Dixie acting. Yipee!!

    • Jesse Sherwood

      Hey Ed!

      • Nostaljack

I have the night off so here I am. Let’s see how this goes…LOL! See? I’m not just a blind hater…;)

    • The Breaker

Calling Dixie’s acting bad is kind of redundant at this point.

      • Nostaljack

I just love that I happen to tune in to Spike at the exact moment I see the thing I like least…LOL!

        • The Breaker

She’s in so many segments that it’s hard not to do that..

  • Nostaljack

Taz is just as horrible on commentary as I remember…

    • Alex Gallardo

I don’t even care to listen to them anymore, you could have the best match ever air on Impact and it would still be ruined by their commentators.

  • Nostaljack

James and Gunnar are having one heck of a match. Nice work!

  • The Breaker

    That head scissors… ugly.

    • Nostaljack

I’ve seen far worse. It wasn’t botch-tastic but it wasn’t the prettiest thing either.

  • KRS

Taz makes me long for the return of Don West. or hell, even Tony Schiavone.

    • Nostaljack

Could you name any two more different commentators? Don West was *awful.* Tony Schiavone commentated on a promotion that nearly took WWE out.

      • KRS

Don West > Taz for me. Schiavone is my personal favourite of all time, I realise it that comment makes it like he ain’t good, forgive me it’s late!

        • Nostaljack

LOL! All good. Don West was their salesman. His approach was certainly different and I liked it too.

      • Bob’s Diner

Don West was awesome. Hell Don West was hilariously entertaining

  • The Breaker

I love Pole matches because of endings like THAT!! *obvious overstated sarcasm*

  • CJ Blaze

Does anyone think Sting will go to WWE? And if so, what will he do?

    • Alex Gallardo

I’m starting to think he will show up at WWE and probably be used at WM in some form.

      • CJ Blaze

If he does come in for WM, they could use him for the streak since there’s a lot of questioning right now about Taker’s opponent.

        • Alex Gallardo

That could happen but to be honest, I think that it’s too late for that match to happen. If it was 1997 then I would really want to see the match happen, but not in 2013.

    • David Jr.

I doubt it. Unless he really wants a Wrestlemania match before retirement.

    • Nostaljack

I’m with David. He’ll never go. It’s frankly too late already. He’s spent way too much time on a show no one watches because no one bothers to promote it.

    • The Breaker

He’s been really close before but didn’t go. At this point I’ll believe it when I see it.

    • KRS

I have a feeling he might go with JJ/Toby Keith if they do start a new company.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Was that what I think it was?

    • The Breaker

… Are you thinking what I’m thinking?

      • Jesse Sherwood

        Most likely…

        • The Breaker

Looking at Sabin and how he is, she might need something that looks like that. All I’m saying!

          • Brandon Ceielo

I completely missed this match. (I went to the store after getting frustrated with the first match)

          • The Breaker

Well, Aries won the title (again) if you didn’t know.

          • Brandon Ceielo

Was it Aries that Sabin won it from?

          • The Breaker

Yep. Someone said earlier that they’re playing a game of Hot Potato. That’s basically what it is.

  • Jesse Sherwood

    FAIL SABIN!!!

  • Jesse Sherwood

Hey, it’s the King of the Mountain cage!!!

    • Alex Gallardo

Too bad they don’t do that match anymore.

      • Jesse Sherwood

It was a unique match concept. It could get convoluted, but they were typically fun to watch.

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Would love to see it return!

        • Jesse Sherwood

          Same here Alex!

    • KRS

      Ahh the good ole’ days.

  • David Jr.

If Austin Aries wins tonight. Do you know what that makes the X-Division Title?

    This

    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NBWQCHb95rg

    • Jesse Sherwood

More like completely worthless. That will be the 3rd switch in less than 2 months.

    • Alex Gallardo

I couldn’t tell you about the last time I saw the Wiggles, but what you’re saying is true. TNA needs to make one the champ, and stick with it.

    • KRS

They will both end up like Raven with the Hardcore Belt and have a stupid amount of reigns. Completely devalues the belt almost as much as never defending it ala the US Title.

  • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Sadly I never got much interested in Aries vs. Sabin this time around. Just isn’t clicking.

  • Nostaljack

Blushing tomato? Oh, Taz, shut it!..LOL!

  • Nostaljack

Listening to Taz bray on and on about this soap opera makes me long for Mike Adamle.

    • KRS

If it was Taz and Adamle together, I’d just rupture my eardrums. Less painful.

  • Nostaljack

These two are just *crispy* in the ring! Amazing brain buster! Promote this stuff, TNA!

  • The Breaker

Who will win the X Title next? The teddy bear?

    • Alex Gallardo

Don’t give TNA creative any ideas.

      • Nostaljack

        Jumpin’ Jeff Farmer!

      • The Breaker

Ideas? First they need a clue…

    • David Jr.

The teddy bear might talk with Christy Hemme though after what Aries pulled in the match.

      • The Breaker

The teddy bear gets Aries suspended! Gold!

  • KRS

Aries and Sabin are gold in the ring together. If Shelley were there, it would be even better!

    • Nostaljack

      Truth!

  • CJ Blaze

As someone who hasn’t watch TNA for very long, does the X-Division Title change hands frequently or is it just the last couple months?

    • Jesse Sherwood

      Just the last few months.

  • KRS

I’ll be there to see the Wolves debut. Cringe when it’s pronounced Glass-gay and Skat-land tho’!

  • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

I’m curious why TNA doesn’t let this new investor story run longer if they really do reveal whoever it is next week.

    • Nostaljack

I’m all for creative story lines but this just isn’t it. They’ve already done it twice that I can think of (Sting and then Mick Foley).

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

I am not saying it is a creative one (as they did it before), but is is surely getting attention from everyone. Quite good for the site.

    • KRS

If it’s a disappointing reveal (and they know it) best to just get it out quickly

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Very true. All I can remember is Tito Ortiz!

    • CJ Blaze

I read a report today that said this storyline is expected to run through Bound For Glory… Do you think that’s possible?

      • The Breaker

I just hope the Dixie storyline doesn’t run through October.

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Sure it is possible. We seen Aces & 8s run for more than a year.

  • Nostaljack

Now, time for some excellent ring work!

    • Jesse Sherwood

      MOTN!

    • The Breaker

And unnecessarily large camera holes in the cage!

      • Nostaljack

They keep emphasizing them too by catching the edge of them through their lenses.

        • The Breaker

Why make them so wide if you’re still going to show the edges?

  • Nostaljack

Okay, that spot was uglier than I expect from either one of them.

  • Brandon Ceielo

Was this show recorded on the same night as Genesis part 1?

    • CJ Blaze

      I think so.

  • David Jr.

    VINTAGE ANGLE!!!!!

    • Brandon Ceielo

No matter how many times I have seen that, it always makes me cringe.

  • The Breaker

Apparently Angle doesn’t care about his career… or his livelihood…

  • Nostaljack

    That was Jeff Hardy-worthy!

  • Nostaljack

Roode is seriously over-selling that ankle.

    • Brandon Ceielo

Would have been a completely epic catch if he grabbed him with the Ankle Lock while Roode is trying to escape.

      • Nostaljack

        He just did…ROFL!!!

        • Brandon Ceielo

Ha, now I’m just happy. Pretty good so far, too.

          • Nostaljack

We differ there but that was pretty funny!

          • Brandon Ceielo

It would have been much better if he did the Ankle Lock on the first catch. The first one slightly killed it.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Oh my overlords… You could see where Angle injured his knee.

  • Nostaljack

    Angle slam was pretty!

  • Nostaljack

Anyone else noticing how loosely the match has been produced? There’s way too much air in it and it’s moving at a glacial pace.

    • Brandon Ceielo

I generally prefer a slower paced match to a spot-fest, but until you said that I didn’t really notice it. Probably typing too much on my end lol.

      • Nostaljack

This thing just crawled and it totally lacked electricity.

  • The Breaker

    Hope Angle’s knee is okay.

    • Nostaljack

Me too. He took horrible chances there.

      • Brandon Ceielo

Has anyone said that he’s legit hurt? Angle is one of the reasons I actually tune into TNA.

        • Jesse Sherwood

          Angle himself has, I believe.

        • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

He has knee surgery next month.

      • The Breaker

        That Moonsault didn’t help!

  • Nostaljack

I wanted to like that match but it was pretty underwhelming. Apart from a couple of crazy spots from Angle, there wasn’t much there to write home about. Both are capable of far better. My issues with it come down to them too. They moved too slowly. The pauses between moves were just terminal and they both kept hanging out either in the doorway or at the top of the structure for no apparent reason other than to make sure the competitor caught up with them so they could follow the script.

    • The Breaker

I don’t totally disagree but there were some decent suspenseful moments.

  • Nostaljack

ECIII is just plain bad. This is painful.

  • Nostaljack

Who is Rockstar Spud? I don’t watch TNA often so I don’t know who he is.

    • CJ Blaze

Me neither, but from what I gather he is Dixie’s annoying assistant.

    • KRS

He won British Bootcamp. Was a very popular indy wrestler over here, famous for beating Abyss years ago.

      • Nostaljack

Ah. Got it. I’m not sure how much more of this ridiculousness I can take but if I can last, I’ll watch for him.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Zema! Pull your dang pants up!!!

  • Nostaljack

DJ Zema? What is going on here? This look *so* indie!

  • The Breaker

    This… isn’t working.

    • Nostaljack

      Couldn’t agree more.

  • Brandon Ceielo

Holy crap! Abyss!! This is actually the first time I marked to Abyss. Maybe because of how much I hate Bromance.

    • Brandon Ceielo

Full disclosure, I never liked Abyss just because I never saw a single match of his that I actually liked. I loved Joseph Park the first few weeks or months because I was surprised how good he was as that character. Haven’t seen much of TNA for months after frustrations with the booking / matches.

    • Mathew

i had to mute the bromance. yes they are that annoying!

      • Brandon Ceielo

Ha. I never saw a Zema or Robbie E match that I liked. Don’t remember Jesse at all.

  • KRS

Happy to see EY and Abyss, they have been so badly underused and booked for so long. Joseph Park was a gimmick I hated.

  • The Breaker

I’m not a fan of Abyss but it’s good that they seem to have some kind of plan for EY that involves him being being regularly featured on TV.

  • Brandon Ceielo

I’d look up Spud, but I don’t want to support him with search or site traffic, so someone quickly fill me in on this guy?

    • KRS

He won British Bootcamp. Was a very popular indy wrestler over here, famous for beating Abyss years ago.

      • KRS

I feel like his cheerleader here lol

        • Brandon Ceielo

So he’s actually good? If he is, they should just make him “snap” or something and just wrestle lol.

          • KRS

Yeah he can go in the ring solidly but I wouldn’t hold my breath for him to be allowed to show too much off. Squash matches for the foreseeable future I think.

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

        He actually beat Abyss?

        • KRS

Yeah but I can’t find the video for love nor money, I’ll link it you when I find it (Ie when I’m more awake)

  • Nostaljack

Okay, checking out on this one. I tried, guys. The commentary has actually gotten worse and the ring work can’t even hold my attention. Goodnight!

    • KRS

      Later mate!

    • Brandon Ceielo

I had to take a break in between, too. GN man, have a good one.

    • The Breaker

      Thanks for hanging out!

  • The Breaker

I like the DBZ-styled Samoa Joe sign! I don’t really see the connection but he could fit in that universe!

  • KRS

I wrote an article about Spud ageees ago. Here you go for those who don’t know him! http://www.tnanews.com/tna-stars-on-the-rise-rockstar-spud/

    • Brandon Ceielo

Whoa, that was about 11 months ago! Didn’t know he was around for that long.

  • The Breaker

I hate Magnus’ music. It sounds like the theme song for a Saturday morning cartoon!

  • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Maybe the very last match for Sting in TNA.

    • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

      Need to cherish this one.

      • Brandon Ceielo

As long as it doesn’t end up like AJ’s last match.

        • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Don’t remind me about that. Haha

        • Jesse Sherwood

          Sadly, it did…

  • KRS

I can’t be the only that is bugged by Sting wrestling a t-shirt?

    • The Breaker

      No, you’re not. It’s annoying.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Looks like I’ll end up at a +7 tonight, since Bully Ray isn’t appearing.

    • The Breaker

This show could’ve used Bully. He really should be on every week.

  • The Breaker

How many people will it take to beat Sting? I say at least 7!

  • The Breaker

So far they’re booking this the exact same way they did for AJ. *sigh*

    • Alex Gallardo

So much for sending Sting out on a good note.

      • The Breaker

Why should we have any faith that they even do that correctly, even though it’s so simple?

        • Alex Gallardo

I never had any faith that they would do it the right way to begin with.

    • Jesse Sherwood

BAKA! THIS IS WHY TNA IS IN BOOKING PURGATORY!

  • Brandon Ceielo

Internet messing up and going to lose connection completely at 7PM my time (It’s 6:55). Was saying, after the month of no cable / internet, I was wrestling starved so I was looking for good matches. Saw Ric Flair vs Steamboat from Chicago in 1989. JR was there before and after the match, on camera! The match itself was pretty good too.

  • Brandon Ceielo

TNA couldn’t honor AJ’s final match after all his years in TNA, and now they can’t honor Sting’s last match in TNA. WTF is going on with the minds of the TNA bookers?

    • Jesse Sherwood

      Rule #1: People are stupid!

    • The Breaker

They got a hold of Matt Hardy’s old stash?

      • Jesse Sherwood

Even that can’t make you this freaking stupid.

  • Brandon Ceielo

That catch into the Death Lock reminds me of Bret Hart vs Shawn Michaels in one of their title matches. Was awesome.

  • The Breaker

Roode coming out just like last time!

  • Jesse Sherwood

You can even see the despair on Sting’s face over the booking of this…

    • The Breaker

Then you can bet he’s not re-signing!

      • Jesse Sherwood

He was laying there on the mat, and he looked like “Oh overlords… I can’t believe they are doing this again. Why the heck am I here?”

        • The Breaker

He didn’t have to sell anything to show how disappointed he was.

  • Brandon Ceielo

First AJ and now Sting. What’s their thinking on their stars getting the shaft in their last matches? Arr.

  • KRS

Sweet moses on a bicycle, talk about over-booking.

    • Jesse Sherwood

      That’s not over-booking, that’s just stupidity.

  • Alex Gallardo

What a shame. Sting deserved so much more better than this crap. Let’s just hope that TNA can find some star power to replace him but I doubt they will at this point, but for now, good night, and I’ll see you all tomorrow.

    • Jesse Sherwood

      Good night Alex.

  • KRS

Well I managed to last till 4am and my brain has officially melted. Goodnight folks, fun chatting to you all.

    • Jesse Sherwood

Goodnight KRS! Great to have you here tonight!

  • The Breaker

Well, it’s the Rumble on Sunday so I’ll soon be too excited to be ticked off about this anyway!

  • Jesse Sherwood

Well, at least Spike had the decent idea to play a timeless classic after Impact. Coming to America!

  • Hayden Tyler

Dang i missed the show from what i read at the top of the page it sounded like it was really good tonight.

    • Jesse Sherwood

It was ok. Decent action until the end, then we got Dixieland Mayhem Redux.

      • Hayden Tyler

        Oh thats no good
