Impact Wrestling Results – 5/30/2013
From Tampa, Florida
Report by: Alex Barie of WrestlingNewsWorld.com

Impact Wrestling starts out with a video package concentrating on the Bully Ray vs. Sting match for Slammiversary. Bully tells Sting that if he loses then he can no longer go for the World Title again. Sting agrees to it but Hulk doesn’t like it. Ray still loves Brooke Hogan while Sting is liking Mr. Parks. The video switches to the tag team division where Gunner returns and teams up with James Storm at the PPV. It switches to AJ Styles and how he joined Aces & 8s but then turns them away. He is not on a side. Will Abyss come tonight? Who will have control as they head into Boston?

The camera shows Aces & 8s backstage. Bully Ray says the main focus is AJ Styles AJ Styles, and AJ Styles. D-Lo goes up to Mr. Anderson and says he is sorry as he thought AJ would join the group. Ken slams his gloves in his hand. Ray and Devon walk in between them. D-Lo goes to turn, but Ken grabs him, slams him against the wall and takes him down to the ground. In three days, Devon takes out Joseph Parks for good. Also, in the main event, Sting vs. Bully Ray! Sting called it. He names the stipulation. No Holds Barred. Did Sting really think it over? Will Sting try to take Ray’s knees out and rip his eyes out? Ray wants him to go for it. Ray isn’t taking anything away from him. He had to accomplish something in this business if he is called “The Icon”. Who has Sting beat? Who was that who said, “To be the mean you got to beat the man.” It is Ric Flair. Sting beat him. Sting beat Hulk Hogan! Who else? He beat Kurt Angle. Not everyone can beat an Olympic Gold Medalist. Who else? Oh yeah, Jeff Hardy! Everyone loves that guy. Sting beat him to be World Champion. Ray also beat Jeff for the title, but he took Jeff out. He will make sure we never see Jeff again. He can’t wait till Slammiversary. He can’t wait to beat Bully Ray. Sting will no longer compete for the TNA World Title again. Let’s do this… him and Devon vs. Sting and Parks! Sting’s music plays and he comes out with Joseph Parks at his side. Let’s give Sky some applause on how she was a good champion. Sky takes the mic off of her and says business is business and she wants her rematch. Mickie is fine with that. She wants her knee to be 100%. Sky wants her rematch at Slammiversary. Mickie said Brooke said that there is a match at Slammiversary and it’s Gail and Taryn.

A video plays showing the career of Sting. He talks about going for the World Championship. It took him four years and his first one was with Ric Flair at Great American Bash 1990. His favorite is Ric Flair. Going after Hulk was one of the best… probably the best at that time and ever. Kurt Angle took Sting to the limit. Jeff Jarrett was the first one with TNA. This match is different at Slammiversary. It is to take the title away from him. He swerved everyone. This is his one chance to drive a steak through his heart.

Alex’s Assumptions:

First off, thanks for the great discussion during the show tonight. I love interacting with people and reading their thoughts. Some of them are outrageous, but they are fun. Anyway, I thought tonight’s show was a great show to end the months story progression for Slammiversary. PPVs are few and far in between now, so carrying stories are harder. We are used to month by month, but not 3-4 months. TNA has actually done this very well. They wrapped everything together tonight. They booked matches that hyped and promoted each match for Slammiversary. The only thing we didn’t see was the Gut Check stars. I would have added them in there in a video segment or a backstage interview. The show was filled with Aces again, but you can really see the change in the past couple of months. D-Lo is on his way down, Anderson is moving up and Ray is taking charge. Team TNA is really picking up with Hardy, Joe, Magnus, Parks, Abyss, Sting, and Kurt. We are seeing the tides turn. The crowd seemed low tonight, as they were when the show was on it’s way down last week. It didn’t hurt the show though. The match card for the PPV looks real strong. I am surprised they added a Last Knockout Standing to Gail vs. Taryn. Should be quite interesting. I’m looking forward to it and hope all of you are too. Like my Facebook page: Here

Hey Kendra! Agreed! Magnus rocked it. He has such a future!

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

He was wonderfully chatty, and guardedly open about what he could really talk about. I can’t wait to see how far he goes in the industry.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Opened with D-Lo being beat down! I’m betting he rejoins the TNA fold at Slammiversary.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

That would make the most sense, but they sure made D’Lo look pathetic!

        D-Lo is down and out!

  • Jon Edney

Not sure how much I like Bully on the mic

    • Jesse Sherwood

He has his own style on the mic. I admit it takes some getting used to, but he can draw some major heat.

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I thought Bully felt like Triple H’s old 20 minute heel rants tonight. He’s normally so much better than the way he started the show.

  • Jon Harris

    Dixie Carter @TNADixie 36s

Bound For Glory will be in San Diego, CA on 10/20/13. 1st time in SD! Viejas Arena/San Diego State University PPV Tickets on-sale June 7

  • Jesse Sherwood

So, is this supposed to be a Tornado Tag, or is the ref so incompetent at his job that he hasn’t been able to get control of the match in the first 5 minutes of it?

    • Jon Harris

no its a 8 man tag match

      • Jesse Sherwood

That was about the initial tag match. I missed most of the 8 Man Tag thanks to my health.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Wonderful Standing Dropkick by Bully Ray! That is something you don’t see him pull out very often.

    • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

He’s starting to use that recently. It works!

  • Jon Harris

dixie carter coming for a promo does nothing at all and does not have a big feeling at all and she sucks on the mic to

    • Jesse Sherwood

It obviously will further the A’s and 8′s storyline.

      • Jesse Sherwood

        And I was right.

        • Jon Harris

they don’t need dixie to further the storyline at all and having aces and eights lose the first match made them look weak

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I completely disagree! Garett was better on mic than we’ve ever seen him, and he hadn’t had a chance before this to really show his growth. Further, Dixie is easy to work off from, so he looked that much better. So I think Dixie on mic worked better than ever here.

          • Jon Harris

garrett sucks in the ring and on the mic and everyone says he sucks that i talk to

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

Well, we’re talking here and I disagree. I’ve learned that there’s very little all and never in this world when it comes to opinions.

          • Jon Harris

garrett is still very green in the ring and not good on mic and the only reason he has a job in tna is because of who is father is and same with brooke hogan and its called special treatment

          • Jesse Sherwood

And if those were the only reasons he were there, he wouldn’t have been off TV for months so he could improve on those factors. He is working his bum off to hold his spot and to grow as a future star.

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I honestly don’t know how to respond to that. Brooke has more that proven herself on TV, especially with Bully. And Garett proved his mic work tonight with Dixie. Yes, he’s young and green, but he’s learning. There was a time when the same was said about Flair, Jarrett, McMahon (VKM, Steph and Shane), Trip, Chavo, Eddie, the list goes on and on. If they don’t get a chance, they won’t be anything but green!

          • Jesse Sherwood

No, it didn’t, as it wasn’t a totally clean loss. And A’s and 8′s are well established enough to take a loss. Going after Dixie makes it look like no one is off limits to them, and set up the following match well.

  • Jesse Sherwood

You have to love that WWE blatantly advertises their movies during Impact! I have been watching Spike almost exclusively the last 3 days, and this is the first time 12 Rounds has been advertised.

    • Jon Edney

Someone give that marketing guy a raise!

      • Jesse Sherwood

        I know, right?

        • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I love that Spike airs Rocky and Austin movies after Impact.

          • Jesse Sherwood

Same here! It gives me giggles.

  • Jon Edney

Samoa Joe would eat Bischoff like a piece of chicken!

    • Jesse Sherwood

      Joe’s gonna kill you!

  • Jon Edney

I love James Storm on the mic, I wish he was more of a centerpiece of the main event scene.

    • Jesse Sherwood

Same here, but right now I understand why he isn’t. There is way too much going on with the A’s and 8′s storyline that he just wouldn’t fit there as well.

    • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

TNA has so much talent. They don’t know what to do with all of them.

  • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Since Dixie Carter isn’t really showcased on the show, she has that big excitement appeal when she does come out.

    • Jesse Sherwood

To a point. She also tends to suck the life out of a crowd if she talks too long, but they hit the right point with her tonight.

    • Jon Harris

no she does not at all and he got like no reaction at all

  • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

The negativity is running rampant in here tonight!

    • Jon Harris

people must not be enjoying impact wrestling tonight

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

No idea why, much of the show is quite strong.

        • Jon Harris

its been ok but to many tag matches tonight

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

From your comments it’s sounded like the worst Impact they’ve put out!

          • Jon Harris

no just ot many tag matches and tna keeps making the aces and eights look os weak every single week

          • Jesse Sherwood

They are the single most dominant faction in pro wrestling today. How, might I ask, do they look weak?

          • Jon Harris

aces and eights not dominant at all and they lose just about every single match there in and the shield is the best group going right now

          • Jesse Sherwood

Does The Shield hold a World Title? No. That in of itself shows that A’s and 8′s is more dominant. Not to mention the number of people A’s and *’s have shelved. While I will say that the talent of The Shield is superior in 3 men than in the majority of A’s and 8′s, A’s has the experience factor and the name recognition that The Shield haven’t had a chance to establish due to the fact they are newer people to the majority of wrestling fans.

          • Jon Harris

the shield has 2 titles in the group and the booking for aces and eigths for the most part has sucked and they lose almost every match there in and then they run away like cowards alot then u have 2 guys over 50 take out the whole group by themselfs

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I can’t disagree about Shield, but A&8′s have not been booked to look weak at all. I’m totally confused at how and why you say that.

    • Jesse Sherwood

Eh, there are too many tag matches for my taste, but at least there has been quality work so far, from what I’ve seen.

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I think the 8 Man worked well, and the opening match also set up for Slam. Makes me a bit bummed that I’m being the great mom and taking Sam to the WWE house show.

        • Jesse Sherwood

You made the right decision! And I know TNA will run another PPV near you next year.

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I know. Sam is so excited! Tomorrow is poster day!

  • Jesse Sherwood

I guess Mickie doesn’t know that there is such a thing as too much clothing.

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

I think it was too much makeup and too much jewelry with frayed short shorts. Oh yeah, and those heels took the outfit from hoochie to downright trashy.

      • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

And Sky could have dressed less ;)

        • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

          How?

          • Jesse Sherwood

I guess Alex wanted her to take the Sable route!

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

            Ew! Brock can keep that!

          • Jesse Sherwood

I meant in just body paint!

          • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

            Ha! Or Chyna! ;)

          • Jesse Sherwood

            EWWWW!!!! NO! NO! NO!

        • Jon Harris

          boring knockouts segment

      • Jesse Sherwood

Don’t forget the two shirts that you could still se her bra under.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Did they change the Knockouts Title? it looks dull and ugly this week.

  • Jesse Sherwood

Ok, logical thinking here! If you have a bad knee injury, you won’t want to wear 3-4 inch heels!

  • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

Alex, I want to interview Taryn.

    • Jesse Sherwood

If for nothing else than to find out if her divorce from Drew is final!

      • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

No, I’m just really impressed with her growth, and I think interviewing her would be great both for her and us. Talk to you more about it tomorrow Alex.

    • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

      Let’s get on it!

  • jdl

Is it just me, or do Angle and AJ do nothing but feud with each other? I swear they’ve done almost nothing but be in angles with each other for the last three years.

    • Jesse Sherwood

They do seem to gravitate towards each other, but just like AJ and Daniels, they work very well off one another.

      • Jon Harris

yes they do but we have just see that match so much all ready and they need new matches for godsakes and theres no new matchups for junes ppv at all

        • Jesse Sherwood

So we have seen Devon vs. Joseph Park, Kenny King vs. Chris Sabin vs. Suicide, Taryn vs. Gail Kim in a Last KO Standing, Doc, Garrett and Wes vs. Hardy, Joe, and Magnus, Bad influence vs. Chavo and Hernandez vs. Dirty Heels vs. Storm and Gunnar, and Sam Shaw vs. Jay Bradley? Those are all new matches that haven’t been done before.

          • Jon Harris

yes we have seen devon vs joseph park before and we have seen gail kim vs taryn before and we have seen bully ray vs sting before to

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

Taryn has barely been in the TNA ring, so while it’s happened, it’s a new feud! And Joseph is a fairly new character to the ring, so that doesn’t make a lot of sense to me either. It’s not like these have been going down for years.

          • Jesse Sherwood

But have we seen them in the light that they are being presented? Has Joseph ever challenged for the TV Title? NO! Have Taryn and Gail Kim done a Last KO Standing Match before? NO! Has Sting faced Bully for the World Title? NO! These are NEW matches, while some of the player may be the same.

          • Jon Harris

no there not new matches at all

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

How are they not new matches if they haven’t happened before?

          • Jon Harris

yes they have happened before they just add gimmicks to the matches this time

          • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Isn’t that just like Brock vs. Triple H or Ryback vs. John Cena? Yeah, I thought so, but you won’t mention that.

          • Jon Harris

yes they are and i wish wwe would start pushing some new guys like cesaro sandow and others

          • Jesse Sherwood

Sir, there is no logic to your argument. And, sadly, despite the best efforts of myself, Kendra, and Alex to try to educate you to these fallacies, you resist. I see no reason to continue this inane conflict, or to try to communicate these ideas with you.

          • Jon Harris

we have seen angle vs styles before to

          • Jesse Sherwood

Did I list AJ vs. Angle there?

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

They are both fantastic workers, so it makes sense. Like AJ and Joe. Like Angle and Joe. Are we seeing a connecting thread here? AJ, the man who has been screwed more by TNA since HH and Bisch showed up, even though he’s supposed to be the face of TNA!

      • Jon Harris

we have seen aj and angle way to much in a match and it does nothing for me its nothing new at all

        • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

Aj vs. Angle in a match does nothing for you? Are you even watching their match? It’s a wrestling clinic in there.

          • Jesse Sherwood

Amen, brother. When they are in the ring, it is beautiful.

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

Alex, thanks for responding, I’m getting confused by the negativity and hatred of all TNA. I know I have my issues with the company, but not every little (and big) thing they do is total shit, which is what I’ve been reading from the above poster tonight.

          • Jon Harris

yes the have great matches but we have seen them alot before

          • Jon Harris

tna can’t come up with new matchups or what

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

What would you do at the wheel? Tell us how you would be booking Impact right now.

          • Jon Harris

have aj feud with kenny king or sabin or aries

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

But why? What would the reasoning be? What would lead up to it? Storyline?

          • Jon Harris

i don’t know but tna can only go so far with the lone wolf storyline

          • Bro

Who was the “BIG time free agent”? I didn’t hear anyone revealed.

          • Jesse Sherwood

It probably won’t be revealed until Slammiversary.

          • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

I don’t understand this at all. You would book that but you said that Aj should be in the main event. If he fought Kenny, how is that possible? Just a thought.

          • Smart Mark

Why would he feud with Sabin or Kenny King when they are X-Division (mid-card) talent and AJ is a main eventer? AJ and Aries would be awsome but Aries is currently in a tag team and has his own feuds.

          • Jon Harris

aj is not being book like a main eventer right now

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

He is fighting against A&8′s in the main event, but he’s not a main eventer? Please explain your reasoning behind this.

          • Smart Mark

How is being in a feud with the best wrestler on the roster (Kurt Angle) and having a role in the stroyline of the World Champion (Bully Ray) make him not being booked like a main eventer?

          • Jesse Sherwood

TNA has a smaller talent pool. Thus, you are bound to have repeated feuds. Anyways, AJ vs Angle hasn’t been on TNA TV since Sacrifice 2012, in other words, over a year.

          • http://miscellaneousmumble.blogspot.com/ Alex Barie

            Kendra, you have no idea!

        • Jesse Sherwood

So, by the logic that you stated, if someone has feuded before, then they should never be in a match against one another, correct?

          • Jon Harris

no but tna likes to do alot of the matches so much and it would be good to come up with new matches for ppvs

          • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Kendra Bunyon

WWE is worse about it than TNA! How many times did we see Punk facing Ryback? Team Hell No with Shield? If the chemistry is there – though it’s not with Cena and Ryback – then they should work it for the fans who love it, who is a majority.

          • Jesse Sherwood

So that is why we got Big E vs ADR 3 times in 8 days on TV?

        • Jesse Sherwood

Jon, after looking at your comment history, which anyone can do by clicking on your profile picture, one question pops in the my mind. Why do you watch TNA if you have absolutely nothing positive to say about the product? Over the last 7 months, you have posted 89 comments in Disqus, and anytime you do, it is bashing TNA, with the exception of about 5 which were lauding the praises of WrestleMania and this year’s Royal Rumble.

      • jdl

Fantastic workers or not, AJ and Angle had feuded to the point that it’s beyond repetitive. That’s seemingly all they do, it seems like this is the thought process “We have nothing for Angle or AJ, what do we do?” “Well, have them be in whatever main event feud is going on for a couple weeks, then just have them feud.” “But that’ll be the sixth time in two years.” “So? We’ve turned Anderson about twelve times in the same timespan, no one will care.”

  • Brian

Who was the big time free agent?!

    • Jesse Sherwood

Not revealed yet. TNA probably wants to reveal him at Slammiversary to make a big impact.

      • Smart Mark

Thoughts on who it might be?

        • Jesse Sherwood

Well, I think it could be RVD, but that’s at about 50%. Otherwise, I have no clue, as they said it was a BIG one, and there just aren’t that many BIG names anymore. Maybe Shelton Benjamin

          • Smart Mark

What are Batista and Bobby Lashley upto these days? Could one of them be a option?

          • Jesse Sherwood

Batista has stated that he would never do TNA, but that has been a long time ago. Lashley has signed with World Series of Fighting, and is pretty inactive in pro wrestling. His last match was with Resistance Pro Wrestling in Oct 2012.

  • Chris

Am I the only one expecting all Aces members to win Sunday EXCEPT Ray? Quick “tension builder” in the group.

    • http://www.facebook.com/jesse.sherwood.7 Jesse Sherwood

Could be, or we just might see the inverse, with Bully being the only winner.

  • Mohan Ramnath

aj vs angle epic match every time cena vs rock boringggg
