Infamous Trish Stratus/Mr. McMahon Angle Brought Up In Connecticut Senate Debate

The infamous Trish Stratus/Mr. McMahon angle from back in the Attitude Era where McMahon “ordered” her to strip and get down on her hands and news and bark like a dog was brought up in Thursday night’s Republican Senate debate. Linda McMahon’s opponent Chris Shays, weighed in:

“I think when you force a woman to take off all her clothes in an arena, and get down on the ground and bark like a dog, I think that’s assault on women,” said Shays.

What a great time in wrestling

  • Blazeking

These modern day Republicans make me sick. They act more like bullies than the kids in school. They have nothing else to go on so they use old, rehashed stuff from the past since they can't say anything about the present day; which matters most. Politics is dead. It's now about who can sling the most dirt at their opponent.

They all need to be kicked out of office and replaced with Republicans that actually make sense.

  • The Dude

Does Chris Shays know that wrestling is scripted?

  • Ian P.

Oh, so he watches the product of a fictional sports entertainment. I guess he is a fan.

    (rolls eyes)

  • Kleck

It’s called ‘acting’ Shays. It takes talent, learn it

  • Frenchfry

Pathetic that this guy has to attack her husbands billion dollar business as means of disproving her legitimacy, to me it just makes him look weak

  • Bulletproofmind

How come no one attacks Arnold Schwartzennegger's political career for trying to kill John Conner?

    • Thebigbowboskie

      Lol

  • PFElton

Couldn't agree more. Maybe in another Senatorial defeat, the McMahons will finally feel some repercussions for their stunts.

    • WyFo

Dude, it’s acting! Someone gets murdered in a movie, the “murderer” doesn’t actually get arrested. It’s fake! Grow up a little!

  • dusty588

I don't understand why they just can't understand that it's entertainment. That was the Attitude Era, and now WWE is PG. If someone in the adult entertainment industry was in Linda's position, I'm sure that the opposition would be doing exactly what he is now. Even if someone dosen't like wrestling, give it a try, they should watch it for a little while before trashing and putting it down. Politics!

"“I think when you force a woman to take off all her clothes in an arena, and get down on the ground and bark like a dog, I think that’s assault on women,” said Shays."

funny I don't recall Trish being forced to do the Angle she could have said no. It wasn't a good angle but all parties agreed to do it.

  • Anand

That was entertainment and this is politics. What does that incident gotta do with Linda McMahon and her election? Will they now talk about Montreal screw job, Christ Benoit suicide, Owen hart accident tragedy etc to bring down Linda mcmahons campaign?

  • jdl

You know a guy has no ammo to speak of when the only thing they're able to bring up is something that happened ten years ago. McMahon will lose, but not because of things like this.

  • Matt

What a good time that episode was!

  • Jeff

Those SOB’s. Just taking so many cheapshots its disgusting, and I don’t even support Linda Mcmahon, but it isnt fair for anyone to deal with all this crap. The United States has to be so politically correct now it sucks :(

  • Matthew

While I don’t know exactly what is going on with Linda McMahon, as I’m a UK resident, why can’t they just accept this was a storyline – yes it was disgrading, but it was part of a storyline and helped get heat for Vince. Why should this affect Linda McMahon in any way?

  • thebops

Out of curiosity, would a Hollywood actor, actress, or director be scrutinized for the same thing if they ran for office??

  • Yanman

I don’t agree with the McMahons on thier political view but these career politicians need to find another route because it’s all getting old with bringing up ‘the biz’ whenever election season comes around. I think politicians just don’t Vince and his entire family for reasons we probably don’t know about. Lawler ran, Ventura won so it’s not impossible but I think the McMahons have too many political enemies, democratic and republican.

  • Sonja

Then they made her a superstar. Where is the problem?

    • Marc

I am an Aussie but VKM for President of USA, forget Linda and her senate ambitions.

  • Kevin

Chris Shays needs to get a life. I'll bet if the truth were known, he watched it when it originally aired and ENJOYED EVERY MINUTE OF IT! It was a television show, not a real occurance! I realize that what a politician's family does reflects on the politician, but come on! This was, what 15 years ago. 10 at least. And it isn't like Vince went out and raped someone, or went on a killing spree. He played a character on television. That character demeaned a woman. It was a show, and that was it. Hell, Arnold Schwartzenthingy played a killer robot from the future in Terminator, but he got elected as governor. No one brought up the fact that he was killing people and trying to kill a CHILD! Why? Because it was a movie! WWE is a weekly episodic DRAMA!
