Joe Mauer’s Slump Compared To John Cena, The Rock Banks $36 Million & Saves Film Franchises

- What does Minnesota Twins catcher Joe Mauer have in common with John Cena? MyFox9.com’s Doug Erllen compares Mauer to Cena in a new article looking at his struggles. Below is an excerpt:

Joe Mauer once beloved by his home town fans is now playing the role of John Cena of WWE fame. He is suddenly hearing more boos with every ground out. With a no-trade clause and a 23 million dollar price tag per year, Mauer has become the punch line of fans and local media alike. The man once dubbed “The Baby Jesus” for his untouchability has only eight hits in the month of May. The only difference between Mauer and Cena at this point is there is no “Let’s go Mauer” chants from one half of the stadium, and “Mauer sucks” from the other half.

The Rock has earned $36 million in the past year and is being credited for saving two film franchises. Forbes.com looks at him doing the same thing for the second installment of G.I. Joe. You can read their article at this link.

And people wonder why Rock doesn't wrestle 24/7 anymore.

  • James

We don't wonder y… Just admit u left us (the wwe)

  • Tone

Rock is the man! only wrestler to successfully crossover into movies.

Respect to Hot Rod in They Live… love tht movie to this day.

Cena has lost just two matches…!! How is that a slump..?

    • SRP

Because 2 lost matches in a row for SuperCena IS a slump.

  • kok

Rock should spend more time in wwe and less time on the movie set

    • GODSENT68

Yea ok, because turning down this money for less money more work and more injuries is just a great idea right???

  • Darkstalker

Noone said Cena was in a slump. Mauer´s slump was compared to Cena in general.
Although, as a babyface, having half the audience boo you might actually be considered a "slump" for a wrestler … Wins and losses are certainly not – as they are scripted and not based on performance (unless they´re due to backstage heat)

    1. By "slump" they mean fan support…. 2. Be happy the Rock came back at all. Of couse he left. Its called progression.. If anything feel sorry for those without his star power and charisma who have to result to Twitter/Facebook beef to stay in the public eye.

Cenas slump can be largely attributed to his rivalry with The Great One. People like me who are die hard fans had to boo Cena to show our support to Rock. That is why we got so much Cena s**** chants.

It Rock was going against anyone else in the wwe they wouldn't have got even one cheer. Since Cena has built s huge fan base over the past decade he still managed to get some cheers :-) however a slump in support is a slump

His recent VKM vs SCSA style feud with jonny may revive his support soon
