John Cena’s Upcoming Raw Absence Indicative Of Battleground Booking?

John Cena is not scheduled for next week’s episode of Monday Night Raw in Miami, Florida and some are wondering if that means he’ll drop the title in Sunday’s WWE Battleground Main Event.

Cena will be away filming his role for the upcoming American comedy film directed by Judd Apatow called “Trainwreck.” Monday isn’t the only date he’ll be unavailable as he’s also off the August 4th Raw in Austin, TX and the company’s upcoming tour of Australia. However, he’s 100% confirmed in the SummerSlam main event against Brock Lesnar. The only question is if that match will be for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship.

While plans to do Cena vs. Lesnar at SummerSlam had been heavily rumored, they were leaked out in Batista fashion in June when Amazon.com used a promotional poster featuring the bout as a placeholder for the upcoming Blu-Ray/DVD of the pay-per-view. WWE has since sent out a commercial promoting the match and used the poster in the latest issue of WWE Magazine:

While the creative outcome of Sunday’s Fatal 4-Way match for the WWE World Heavyweight Championship is unknown, Cena is heavily favored to retain. The latest international betting odds (as of Saturday afternoon) have Cena a 75% favorite to go over, next to Roman Reigns (18.75%) and Kane (6.25%). Randy Orton isn’t listed as of press time.

To me it’s indicative that John Cena will leave as Champion, but not on his feet.

I suspect that plan B will be Brock Lesnar coming down and taking out anybody standing, paying special attention to Cena. So he can be written off TV for a while whilst Heyman can state that with Cena not on tv Lesnar should be handed the title
title. Then after several weeks of Lesnar providing face beatdowns Cena will return to superman things up before SS.

It only makes sense for Lesnar to come out and destroy everyone. He HAS to be booked as an unstoppable monster after beating the streak. If he can put SuperCena on the shelf for a few weeks, that will help build on that image.

    • Vic Jose

That would be the smart thing to do, too bad WWE hardly ever does anything good.

    • lll

Seth Rollins is “plan B”; Brock Lesnar is “plan C”, but you’re right with everything else. Brock has to win or the streak will be for nothing and the fans will never let the WWE forget it.

    • GOR

Its obvious after heyman’s promo with HHH that Broc will come out after the last match n destroy cena [Winner], leaving him in pieces.

Plan C: Brock Lesnar is added to the match or somehow Brock walks away with the title. Cena vs. Brock could still be for the title but Brock defending.

If you watch the commercial and read the poster, nowhere does it say “vs” or any proof they’ll have a match. Could just be WWE advertising it’s two biggest draws. No one can claim false advertising over that.

    • CJ Blaze

If you watch the commercial, it’s building to a match between the two. Sure it doesn’t have “vs” it there, but come on, it features lots of footage or the two… together! But I agree, no one can claim false advertisement there. However, WWE should’ve been more careful with the way they handled it.

      • Tyler

The evidence all does point to a match, but lookwhat happened with Daniel Bryan when WWE lost him to injury. I think they set it up andleft themselves room for any possible changes to the card. Either way the promos created hype which is the goal ultimately.

I just go by this… http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/wwe-confirms-plan-john-cena-vs-brock-lesnar-summerslam/#.U67s9o1dWyQ WWE all but confirming it is what proves to me it’s happening.

  • Splat

It’s not like Brock is going to be very active leading up to SS either.

Off topic, but I bet that Judd Apatow movie will have his wife Leslie Mann in a significant role. She’s on every movie of his. At least the ones I’ve seen.

On topic, Cena survives Plan A, the Fatal 4 Way. Plan B in Rollins attempts to cash in, but Dean Ambrose ruins that. Heyman comes out with Plan C, Brock Lesnar. Hoping for no Spanish Announce Table to break before this, Lesnar would F-5 John onto the table.

  • Trapdoor

I hope they don’t have Rollins cashing in (the case) this early & losing it straight away. Will only weaken him.

    • JR Texx (Jamie)

Don’t think that will be the… case.. for a while yet.

  • Yves

Please don’t make John Cena against Brock again, he already won him and I’m pretty sure he’ll win this part-timer sucker! and they should have Batista against him instead because Batista suppose to return before SummerSlam and this could be the best match in this year ever!!!

    • JR Texx (Jamie)

They will, Lesnar will be winning the title at some point, it’s just when, and Cena is the only one really to lose it to Lesnar and not get hurt by it.

      • Yves

WWE is disappointing me! I’d really looked forward to see Batista against him because he should return before SummerSlam, I just hope Cena at least win Brock and lose the title to Reigns.

  • JR Texx (Jamie)

Wow I thought John Cena was actually gonna have a day off, silly thing to think of.

and thinking of SS, Cena is the only one I can think of that should drop it to Lesnar and not being hurt by it.
