More On KENTA’s Signing, WWE’s Return To MSG; Why They Don’t Tape TV There

- Wrestling News World reader Hiroaki Kawafuji sent word that Hirofumi Shimomura, who is Japanese minister of Education, Culture, Sports, Science and Technology, appeared in a video package at WWE’s show in Osaka to wish KENTA well. You can watch the actual video of KENTA signing his contract at this link.

- WWE will return to Madison Square Garden in New York City for a live event the day after Christmas on Friday, December 26, 2014. The presale password to obtain tickets is WWENYC as it begins on Friday. Tickets go on sale to the general public on Saturday.

- Speaking of WWE running at Madison Square Garden, we’re often asked why the company doesn’t tape TV there more often. The short answer is – it’s expensive. Not just to tape at Madison Square Garden but New York City in general. Jim Ross stated on his podcast last week, while referencing TNA taping in Manhattan, there were times when WWE had sold out gates at the Garden and still lost money. Profitable for live events, not for television.

I don’t understand, what’s the difference with live events and tv? Is it because the set takes too much space for seating?

That and ticket prices are much cheaper. So less attendance capacity at half the price = much lower gate

Everything is more in NYC. Travel and production costs are higher plus the cost to rent the Garden is probably higher. More people are needed to produce tv than a house show in performers and staff. If you remember too sometimes they don’t use their regular sets for tv in the garden. They’ll use a simple entryway. But it is a shame because the crowds can make it something special. They should probably do a Raw there from time to time and make it a special event.
