Kevin Nash Says Benoit/Guerrero Hug At Wrestlemania XX Was The End Of The Business; Criticizes CM Punk & Daniel Bryan

Grantland.com has a new article online featuring quotes from Kevin Nash that is certain to ruffle some feathers. Below are the highlights (or lowlights depending on how you look at them):

What he considers the end of the wrestling business:

“When Benoit and Guerrero hugged [at the end of WrestleMania XX], that was the end of the business,” he says. “Has business been the same since that WrestleMania? Has it come close to the Austin era? Has it come close to the nWo or the Hogan era? You put two f—ing guys that were great workers that were the same height as the f—ing referees, and I’m sorry, man. Are you going to watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch d–k? Even if you’re not gay, you will not watch a porno movie with a guy with a three-inch d–k. That’s not the standard in porno films. So you put a 5-foot-7 guy as your world champion.”

Criticism of CM Punk & Daniel Bryan:

“They are not bigger than life,” he says. “I bet they could both walk through airports and not be noticed unless they have a gimmick shirt on and the belt.”

Just got done reading the article. It's actually a good read. While I do disagree with Nash's comments on the above, there is still respect there because he knows that he will never be an internet darling like those four.

    • Frank

I think Nash is bitter. Not Chris or Eddy,it was that fucking flea Rey Mystero who killed the biz.

  • Ethan

    100% agree

  • Simon Veitch

And the worst thing here is you know that people will just get riled up with Nash and bite back at his comments, so he'll get the attention he's craving so much. Benoit and Guerrero's hug at the end of WMXX was a highlight, two guys who'd broken the glass ceiling and paved the way for guys like Edge, Punk, Bryan, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio etc… to become champions. If the mold had remained the same, your only champions these days would be Kane, Cena and Big Show

    • Oh Yes…Its True!

Randy Savage, Ricky Steamboat, Bret Hart and Shawn Michaels actually paved the way for those guys to break,"the glass ceiling."

      • Bigbdawg2003

I was gonna say the same thing then I scrolled down and saw you beat me to it

      • Joe

Was it not pedro morales and bob backlund before those?

  • Slade6alpha

Kevin Nash is irrelevant. Yes, most likely the business will never be what is once was, it's hard to stay on stop, but times have changed. Stuff that worked back then don't work today; we live in the age of the athlete.

  • Paul

What a prick Kevin Nash can be.
Oi Kevin your old and no one remembers you! Try not to injure your knee when you leave the house tomorrow.

  • sethpac

Sounds like sour grapes to me from someone who killed the business 5 years before WM XX with the fingerpoke of doom.

  • Dave Barton

All that matters is that the fans pop, regardless of what the guy looks like.

  • Crossbonez

Holy shnite Nash is bruuuuuuutal. Hahahaha!!

  • adam

You wouldnt put a old D-k that can’t work anymore in a porn either. Yet nash still thinks he can main event

    • Guest

      Best.comment.ever!

  • Rob

that is totally disrespectful, and correct me if i am wrong but shawn michaels wasnt exactly a giant, yet he is considered the greatest performer the buisness has ever had. Guerrero and Benoit gave everything they had to the buisness, they worked their asses to get to where they were at that point and deserved their moment in the spot light. And although benoits death is covered in controversy and is obviously a sore subject it is still disrespectful to them both to say that they ended the buisness.

  • smithmiester

Disrespectful. All because Nash hasn’t been relevant since 1998.

  • Aldin94

    Screw you Nash!

  • TheAwesome1

I hate to say it, but Kevin Nash has a point. When I watch wrestling with my dad, he constantly shakes his head when Daniel Bryan or CM Punk or any other light heavyweight is on. "How can he win a match?", "You can tell it is fake, how did Cody Rhodes defeat Ezekiel Jackson?" I can only imagine how many others share the same sentiment.

    • Sam The Man

Tell your dad Royce Gracie beat Akebono in Japan. And I use to kick a** guys twice my size.

      • Razmos01

What a hero you are, have you got proof?

  • AB4

Kevin Nash has a right to his opinion and he may just be "having fun" as he's put it before, but the more he talks, the more he sounds delusional and bitter.

  • Joe

I was thinking about buying Nash’s autograph at a comic con this weekend…think I’ll save my money.

  • jonny

    wow

  • Stoney

says the lowest drawing WWE champion in history

  • James

Wait a moment wasn't it just last week that Nash was saying that Punk should start a new NWO? Oh and I saw Punk and his girlfriend Lita at a mall a few months ago and knew exactly who they were. I left them alone because I wanted to give them time alone on their off time.

    • just a fan

i thought his gf was beth pheonix?

  • bejealous

Talk about being bitter. Let it go Kevin, father time catches us all in the end, so don’t take it out on the current top stars. As for business never being the same, that probably happened in mid to late 2002. Also find it interesting that he blames 2 guys that are dead, and can’t defend themselves. Pathetic Kevin. Just pathetic.

  • JamieSNZ

So according to Nash, if you aint 7 foot tall and muscle bound, you shouldnt be champion? Perhaps somebody shouldve told Ric Flair, Bob Backland, Chris Jericho and Shawn Michaels that. Who wouldve paid to see them i wonder?

  • Crossbonez

Nash is just pissed because CM Punk OWNED his crusty ass in their promo a few months ago. He needs to sue his legs for support, stop botching his finish and (in the words of Y2J) SHUT THA HELL UP!!

  • Andrew Ace

Let’s not get crazy your talking about a 7ft 300lb dude

    • MonsterMike42

Double drop kick to the knees followed by a double DDT. Not so tall anymore.

    • Wwe4L76

And he is as slow as my dead dog

    • Wwe4L76

Only way nash could beat them has to be If he used a gun

  • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

“Wtf Kevin Nash. Lol thought he was dead”

    • Joe O.

^^lmao! How can anyone forget that promo?!

    • The Cowboy

I believe it was 'OMG Kevin Nash WTF thought he was dead LOL'.

  • _JIM_

What’ll happen here is lazy people won’t take the time to read the entire article, which is a great read and full of truths, and they’ll freak out over these two comments that were posted here. I somewhat agree with these comments though. He’s right in saying that the business today is full of smaller workers who most likely wouldn’t have gotten a tryout, let alone a contract, back in the day due to their size. It was all about size back then and Kevin knows it. Sometimes brutal honesty hurts, but things also change in time. These changes were definitely for the better though because now that smaller workers are basically taking over the business it gives more people an opporitunity to succeed due to their actual skill set. Instead of making it big just because you happen to be 6′ 8″, 320 lbs. without having any skills at all. This all started with HBK in the WWF/E, and the Lucha Libre guys that were showcased every week on Nitro. Those guys proved that its not all about being huge, and it is all about what you can do inside that ring and on the mic.

  • matt

He was partly responsible for the death of WCW, just another jealous dinosaur

  • Tim

Wasn’t clicky knees Kevin Nash part of a reason a whole company failed so yea he has no clue wtf he talking about them short guys would wrestle circles around his dumb ass

  • RJ Hewit

Since when the hell does Nash care about the business. The only business Nash cares about is his own business. There was nothing intimidating about the look of Steve Austin but people watched because he was an everyguy who flipped off his boss. This just proves that the more someone talks the more unintelligent, non thought out things will come out of their mouth. Anyway, its cliche to say but, all four of these guys have more talent in one finger than Nash ever did. The only thing he had goin for him was that he was a big man. The business is not the way it was because it has gotten a little soft. I went to Smackdown in Houston tonight and the amount of kids that are always at these events is amazing,

  • Juan

they did reform the nwo in wwe and they didnt even get close to being how they were in wcw

  • Isaac Yankum

This maybe the truth coming from K. Nash’s lips, but I bet as smart as he is, it’s a work.

  • AnacondaVise

Most of the tall guys that "looked" the part are down right awful in the ring. It takes guys like Punk and Bryan to carry them making them look better than they actually are.

  • BigMike

This coming from a person whose onl;y contribution to wrestling was being HBK friend then goes BACK to WCW which never wanted him in the first place and became Bitchoff's stooge and brownnosed his way into becoming a booker/producer for the show and look what happened when he was given power.they went steady downhill to the point of going out of business everyone can blame eric for WCW going under and his actions did not help BUT he had been long gone when Russo and company guided the sinking ship down faster than the hindenberg

  • Aaron

Kevin Nash WTF thought he was dead LOL

  • BOBO

He's only saying it because the 'NWO returning soon' didn't create enough publicity for him.

  • ptekin

You guys do reallize he is still under contract with wwe maybe it could be a shoot and there just trying to create new storylines….

  • http://wrestlingproject.tumblr.com/ The Fever

Something needs to stop living in the 90s me thinks. Guys like CM Punk & Daniel Bryan are ten times more relatable to the average WWE fan anyways because instead of questioning their possible use of steroids, you're instead focusing on what they can do ATHLETICALLY in the ring. Which also means you're more likely to buy their merchandise and make the company Money, which is the bottom line.
Eddie Guerrero, Kurt Angle, Jeff Hardy, Rey Mysterio, Bret Hart, Shawn Michaels, Edge, Ric Flair, Matt Hardy & Christian… all guys who you wouldn't classify as "genetic freaks" or super huge dudes, but that still looks like a pretty formidable list to me. Case Closed.

  • Michael

Kevin Nash is a moron!! How a guy who has always been such a limited worker can slate anyone is beyond me! The match between benoit and guerrero was an amazing match, with such great moves that was a definite wrestlemania moment!! Where’s your wrestlemania moment Kevin! Oh yeah when you were shawn michael’s skivvy!!!

  • Kendrick Stewart

nash just want publicity.. he knows that he just a washed up no talented wannabe wrestler…so he picks on smaller wrestler to make him feel better…like calling people vanilla midget's(he called benoit)…and that why wcw fail because of the ego's like him hall, x pac ,hogan ,and hell of lot others.

  • Ego Trip

Wow….. I didn't know Kevin Nash was still alive. I thought after Hogan poked him in his chest he died of embarrassment

  • Kevin

So let me get this straight: a washed-up, no-talent Kevin Nash has the gall to say that a smaller guy, who could wrestle circles around him, didn't deserve to be the champion? I got 2 words for Kevin Nash: SUCK IT!

  • Anand

Even in Ring Nash was probably half as good as either Eddie or Benoit or maybe even less… Making disparaging comments about fellow wrestlers in itself is bad, bad mouthing dead wrestlers is probably as low as you can go…

I am deeply saddened by what chris did to his family but as a wrestler he was simply amazing. So was Eddie… Someone who fell down when hulk poked a finger to his chest has absolutely no right to bad mouth wrestlers of the caliber of Eddie or Benoit

  • Scott Keith

Well, Kevin Nash is right one one level. I stopped watching WWE altogether after the Midget Hug of Doom.
