Kurt Angle's WWE Release, Brock Lesnar Reckless At Extreme Rules, Blood In WWE, Edge Staying Or Leaving?

Why did Kurt Angle leave WWE?

Kurt Angle's departure from WWE in 2006 features his story and their story. Angle claims he requested his release because he needed time off and was working injured too often. People in WWE claim Angle was released because he had so many health issues they were worry about his well-being. At the time, Kurt's wife, Karen, was very unhappy with Kurt working injured in WWE and wanted him to leave. She was very against him working there and wasn't happy with the way he was treated. It's interesting that in the announcement of Angle's release, dot com stated that WWE looked forward to establishing a new relationship with Kurt in the near future. You can view their initial coverage at this link and Vince McMahon's statement at this link.

It seemed like Brock Lesnar was way too physical and reckless in his match with John Cena last night at Extreme Rules. What are the feelings backstage after the match?

I haven't heard the reaction from backstage yet but do you know how I always state that WWE doesn't push talent based on in-ring work? John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar was an excellent main event match because it was entertaining and believable but the in-ring work left a lot to be desired. I messaged former WNW co-owner Ryan Gray during the bout and said Lesnar is either going to kill himself or his opponent if he doesn't settle down. He was rusty but his massive size, accurate facial expressions and overall "attitude" made the match a lot of fun. Lesnar needs to brush off the ring rust but last night was a great match. I'll have much more on Richard's Backstage Blog later today.

With the bloody John Cena vs. Brock Lesnar match behind us, can we expect more bloody matches like we used to see before WWE went PG?

Vince McMahon has maintained his commitment to producing PG programming but last night's show had a lot more "attitude" than recent pay-per-views. While McMahon has no plans on altering the product's rating, we are getting edgier programming. I don't know if we can count on a lot of matches with color but the quality of the product last night was moving in a much better direction.

Did Edge and WWE come to terms on a new contract?

For those that missed it over the weekend, Edge is letting his WWE contract expire and his deal is complete after today. From what I understand they couldn't agree on financial terms and Edge wanted to explore life outside of WWE. The departure wasn't nasty and no bridges were burned so it's likely the two parties could work together again in the future.

As long as the blood is unintentional and not coming from blading, I have zero beef. Anyway, they should be careful with potential BTDs.

  • Dangerous Lee

Glad to see blading is back in style in the wwe.

    • Lil Wayne YMCMB

are you serious? With the risk of HIV/AIDS and hepatitis you think WWE will do it!!! If chair shots were banned, do you expect blading to continue!!! Shaking my head

      • Dangerous Lee

I believe blading can be done safely, especially by wwe standards. Seeing it last night added something special and was effective in making cena seem like an underdog early in the match.

        • WNW Fan

I may be wrong but I don't think there was any blading whatsoever. I think Cena got busted open hard way. Seemed like a complete accident to me

          • Guy Landau

Hardway, yes. Accident… Maybe. The stiff work added a lot to the match, I wouldn't be surprised if it was intentional.

        • Matt Scott

Why do you even post here any more? 42 negatives in just two posts is a record I believe.

    • max

I think the blood was hardway, not sure about lesnars but cena's was

  • Angel

I’m fine with the pg programming. But once in a while if they wanna sprinkle in some blood on the ppv then I’ll be fine with that also

  • Anand

Richard, firstly thanks for answering my Q on Kurt. If he left the WWE to take time off to heal from injuries, why did he join TNA almost immediately? It doesn’t look like he has taken Any long breaks there. He has gotten skinnier and looks much worse than what he looked during his stint with the wwe. Do you think Kurt leaving the wwe was a mistake?

On a different note, why isn’t he coming back to the wwe? I think that, For a man of his wrestling abilities he deserves a much better exposure and respect than what he is gettin in TNA.

    • wnwdotcom2

Angle went to TNA because they offered him big money for much fewer dates. He explored a WWE return recently but ultimately decided he had a good thing with TNA.

  • Jeff Ono

I understand why Internet wrestling fans are tired of Cena's character. But that guy bust his tail harder than anyone in the locker room to give you a great show. Every now and then, give the guy a little respect in return. If every wrestler were as dedicated to the fans as Cena, then people wouldn't be worried about "The End of An Era" …. because hard-working wrestlers would continue to flourish. Applaud the effort, even if you dislike the character.

A return of Kurt Angle to WWE will surpass Brock lesnar main stream media buzz

    • urnemystic

Yeah the difference between angle and lesnar is that kurt angle can make a brock lesnar match look good!

  • luke

lesnar vs cena was a good match but if brock is going to carry on his momentum with a loss it should be to take cena out tonight if cena is going to have time off. Then i for one would love to see a triple h fued with lesnar because it would be an all out brawl and it doesnt send lesnar off for a title and keeps trips going

  • Zack Ryder

"former WNW co-owner Ryan Gray" ?? So Ryan finished with WNW?

    • wnwdotcom2

Yes, Ryan left on July 1, 2011 to pursue other interests.

      • Ian P.

Richard, did you "future endeavor" Ryan? tsk. tsk. Haha!

  • Patrick_Peralta

from what I read on the blogs (since I didn't watch the PPV ) Cena and Lesner did bleed but it all so marked the return of Doctor's, gloves , towels and stoping the action which fans booed for… That is a mistake stoping to clean up blood kills a match and fans are not going to be happy about that..

    • Dangerous Lee

It felt like wwe wanted them to bleed but not too much. I can understand that a face covered in blood might be a bit too much for the pg auduence. Did you see the faces of the kids with their moms in the front row? That’s something they didn’t expect from a cena match.

    • Sander

I think everybody got scared from what Brock was doing to Cena. Even I said “what an asshole” when he worked Cena with his elbows.

He will draw serious money for WWE, but I don’t know if bringing Lesnar back this way, if it’s a good choice

      • Chim55

To Sander and Kobe Bryant ….maybe you guys should stick to watching the Power Rangers or playing with Pokemon cards or whatever yous do

  • Even with the towels & stopping the action it was *plenty* bloody! The action & the color of the match definitely had an edge of disturbing realism to it. Well done Cena & Brock.

  • Kobe Bryant

Why is nobody mentioning the stiff elbows Brock purposely threw at Cena?
He could have seriously injured him, that was too reckless.

    • Chim55

To Sander and Kobe Bryant ….maybe you guys should stick to watching the Power Rangers or playing with Pokemon cards or whatever yous do….

      Read my comment

  • Lil Wayne YMCMB

last night, WWE used a method where cena was sliced a little by a certified doctor and the wound sealed with bandage glue. If You thought cena bled due to blading, this styles is more safer. Also a wrestler who blades can rupture a major artery which can be fatal.

  • Best In The World!

I thought all in all it was a great PPV. I thought the booking was done extremely well (no pun intended). I loved Chicago's hot crowd the whole evening. The CM Punk-Jericho match was beautiful. In the Lesnar-Cena fight I do recall when Brock was holding the bottom piece of the steel steps over his head main referee Charles Robinson was laying right next to where Lesnar lost his grip but held on right next to Robinson. That could have been a tragedy I saw Lesnar's face when he was bringing the steps in the ring he looked so relieved he didn't drop the Steps. I got my moneys worth on the three main bouts alone.

  • Coopapalooza

In my opinion colour adds a realistic aspect to certain gimmick matches. HIAC, cage, TLC. Colour at the right time can add a whole different element to a match. Seeing cena bleed made him look vulnerable. Remember his “I quit” match with JBL? That was an awesome psychological and physical storytelling effort from both workers.

  • Shawn

I hate John cena but last night he showed why he deserves to be at the top. I still believe something has to happen to alter his character somehow he can’t continue on being some sort of plain hero he has to get … Let’s just say more “edgey” .. If that makes any sense

  • Chim55

    Oh my gawd.

Some of the frankly….retarded responses in this comment section have left me flabber gasted.

Ppl bitching about Brock being wreckless and not protecting Cena are thick as *hit.

Yes, it was a stiff match, but it had obviously been agreed beforehand by Cena and Brock to work the match that way. And the bleeding was obviously hardway and intentional….what do you think the slicing elbows were all about?

The majority of Internet wrestling fans just make me shake my head….

  • Chim55
