Renee Young welcomes us to the Battleground Kickoff, introducing her panel: Booker T, Christian & Alex Riley. Renee urges the viewers to watch the show on WWE Network. Renee then brings up the upcoming Naomi vs. Cameron match.
Booker T says his will be the “shucky ducky quack quack” moment of the night. He’s also looking forward to the Fatal 4-Way main event tonight. Renee lays out the rules to a Fatal 4-Way match. Riley notes that John Cena does not have to be pinned or submit to lose the championship. He thinks the stipulation favors everyone but John Cena, as he has a 75% chance of losing the title. Renee then throws the show to Michael Cole, Jerry Lawler & JBL at ringside.
JBL predicts that Randy Orton will win the title tonight. Both Cole and Lawler predict that John Cena will retain. With that, Fandango‘s music hits and he comes out for his match.
Michael Cole shows Adam Rose‘s tweet from earlier today in which Layla & Summer Rae are shown partying with Rose. Adam Rose’s music hits next and out comes Rose, his Rosebuds, and Summer Rae & Layla. Cole notes that today is Adam Rose’ birthday.
Fandango vs. Adam Rose w/ Summer Rae & Layla
Fandango goes right after Rose, attacking him and punching him in the corner. A back suplex for a quick pin attempt. Outside the ring, Summer Rae, Layla & the Rosebuds dance around the ring distracing Fandango. Fandango comes out of the ring and asks what they’re doing. Layla and Summer both slap Fandango, allowing Rose to take advantage and roll Fandango back in the ring. Rose hits a spinebuster and a clothesline in the corner before hitting the Party Foul for the pinfall.
Winner: Adam Rose
Rose dances in the ring before joining Summer Rae, Layla & the Rosebuds outside the ring. Summer and Layla kiss Rose on each cheek as they all dance and sing along to his theme song.
Back at the Kickoff panel, Renee says we’re getting closer and closer to a historic night tonight. She says we will see two former “brothers” and business partners finally getting their hands on each other, as Dean Ambrose and Seth Rollins face off. A promo package airs showing parts of The Shield’s first interview, then showing Rollins’ betrayal. Rollins winning the Money in the Bank briefcase is shown next, followed by his attempted cash-in on Raw that was foiled by Ambrose. The events from his week’s Smackdown are shown, in which Kane and Rollins attacked Ambrose and Rollins curb stomped Ambrose onto the steel steps.
Back at the panel, Renee says this is the first time ever that Ambrose & Rollins collide in the ring. Christian says that when he and Edge split up and faced the first time, he did whatever he could to prove he was the best. Renee says this match will be pure emotion before moving onto Bray Wyatt vs. Chris Jericho. A recap of Jericho’s return on Raw is shown, followed by The Wyatt Family’s attack on Jericho. Renee asks what we can expect from these two tonight. Riley says he’s aimed for the biggest reactions he can get since debuting, and thinks Wyatt targeted Jericho because it was his biggest opportunity. Renee then sends it to Tom Phillips.
Backstage, Tom Phillips welcomes The Usos. The Usos says a 2 out of 3 Falls Match means that Jimmy gets one fall and Jey gets one fall. They jokingly bicker about which Uso is more handsome before noting that the referee can’t make a mistake this time. They say that tonight, The Usos are gonna bring their A game.
Cameron‘s music his and she comes out, followed by Naomi. Both are sporting new gear. Cole introduces a recap detailing the breakup of the Funkadactyls.
Naomi vs. Cameron
Naomi goes right after Cameron, pushing her into the corner. Cameron takes control and tosses Naomi out to the apron. The referee separates them and Cameron hits a shoulder block, sending Naomi to the outside. Cameron rams Naomi’s back into the ring apron before sneding her back into the ring. Naomi kicks out from a pin attempt. Cameron applies a modified surfboard stretch. Naomi gets out, whips Cameron and tries for a dropkick, but Cameron grabs the ropes. Both fight for control and Naomi hits a Thesz press. Naomi stomps Cameron, sending her out of the ring. Cameron tries to walk away from the match, but Naomi stops her, throwing her into the barricade, then back into the ring. Cameron fights back, pushing Naomi back with her foot. Cameron slaps Naomi and Naomi grabs Cameron by the hair. Cameron runs Naomi into the ropes and rolls Naomi up for a quick pin.
The commentators note that Naomi thinks Cameron had a handful of tights. A replay airs, confirming that Cameron indeed held the tights to get the pinfall.
Back at the panel, Renee asks who will win the Intercontinental Championship tonight. Booker T picks Kofi Kingston. Christian says he’s won 2 battle royals, and he’s picking Dolph Ziggler. Riley says his dark horse is Heath Slater.
