Making The Case For 2 World Titles, Pacman Criticism, Ryback vs. Goldberg, My Favorite Worker

With the brand extension over, why does WWE still have two world titles? Are there plans to unify them anytime soon?

I’m a supporter of two world title belts and feel it presents more opportunities in the top of the card. People send me names all the time about workers they feel should be working in the top of the card then in the same breath, call for title unification. One thing I want everyone to realize is that if WWE unifies the world titles, they’ll cut the top of the card by 50%. So if you’re tired of John Cena, Randy Orton, CM Punk, etc. dominating the top of the card, that’s not going to change with title unification. I enjoy the two world titles because it presents more opportunities.

I’m not an American football guy at all, so I don’t seem to understand why TNA was criticized for bringing in Adam “Pacman” Jones last Thursday. Even JR had a negative comment. WWE brings in football players a lot and they don’t get as much criticism for it. So why was it so bad to bring in Adam Jones?

I had no problem with TNA Wrestling bringing Adam “Pacman” Jones back to television; my problem was with how they did it. Playing her new delusional authoritative heel character, Dixie Carter teased they were bringing back a “former World Champion.” Regardless of a gimmick/storyline, that made TNA look pretty pathetic. Now is not the time for Dixie Carter to “troll the fans,” even if it does help build a character they’re determined to get over. TNA is in a bad place right now and all of their efforts should be on stabilization and delivering the best product possible. It’s time to rally the fan base, not troll them in a publicity stunt. Making matters worse, creative decided to have Jones take out Bad Influence. It’s never a good idea to have non-wrestlers take out homegrown talent. I also want to take this chance to push back on some accusations in your question. First, WWE gets a lot of criticism for the use of non-wrestlers. The “guest star/host” gimmick WWE did for Monday Night Raw was not well-received and fans are just as hard on WWE when a WWE guy goes under to someone without a wrestling background. I’ll also call into question your claim WWE “brings in football players a lot” as the last time they brought one to television was Kurt Warner (an NFL legend) and his role was minimal. Wrestling fans want pro wrestlers, not celebrities for cheap publicity.

With Ryback borrowing from Goldberg’s move set, mentioning him at live events and other subtle teases – is there a chance we see Goldberg at Wrestlemania?

I’ve heard subtle whispers that WWE would like to bring Bill Goldberg in for Wrestlemania but I’m not buying them. Goldberg doesn’t get along with the WWE machine and they already have the services of Brock Lesnar secured. Sting is probably a more realistic option at this point, even though I don’t even think that has much of a chance of happening either. Anything is possible but it’s one of those things “I’ll believe it, when I see it.”

Who is your favorite worker and why?

Picking a favorite worker is not a desirable thing for me to do because readers will accuse me of having an unfair bias towards a particular individual. The truth is, I just want to be entertained. I don’t care who it is or what they do, I want to watch matches and segments on television and pay-per-view that are entertaining. My favorite style of wrestling is workers that can tell a story with their work and don’t have to rely on 100% high-risk insane spots. Some interpret this as me backing a slow and methodical style of wrestling, which isn’t true either. I love watching smaller guys go all out and really “wowing” with their high spots, however, the business is more than that. There’s something to be said about John Cena, who can move the needle on his own, despite the fact that 9 out 10 of you will claim to hate him. I know it sounds cliche but I want what’s best for business and that is anyone that makes me want to watch.

From the Ask WNW vault…

May 2010: The word on Randy Orton is that he is much more mature since getting married and becoming a father. Orton used to have a reputation as being arrogant, disrespectful (especially to females) and even erratic. Orton has grown up and the WWE office has full confidence in him, which is why they recently signed him to a 10-year contract. There were concerns that Orton’s behavior would derail his career despite his talent but that changed once he got married.

And Randy Orton never had a wellness violation again…

      Haha

      Shut up

Another reason Adam Pacman Jones is being ridiculed is because he’s infamous in the NFL for his multiple arrests and suspensions

Yeah, he’s more famous for off-field shenanigans rather than his mediocre play. Dude went to WVU (where I went), he’s a punk.

I was at comic con last weekend and Goldberg was there. I told him there’s a bunch of rumours that he may come back to WWE & he said he’d come back if the price is right & booking. Just like Stone Cold, Batista, Sting & Goldberg, they would all come to WWE for the right price.

You’re exactly right. Everyone wants that big pay day, as they should with WWE breaking the bank for Lesnar and Rocky. However, I just don’t see it.

Thanks for clearly stating the reason why keep 2 main world titles is really “best for business”. Thanks why I am also in favor of 2 world titles…just like you’ve also been in favor for for a long time…even after these brand extension/ split thing. Although I am still in favor of it going back to it’s old setup with the brand thing, even though I know you like how it currently is right now.

From the Ask WNW vault…how about also including the original question as opposed to just a random answer?

    • http://www.wrestlingnewsworld.com/ Richard Gray

      I do when needed.

  • BigMike

My biggest ussues with TNA are this: They have the talent but Dixie seemingly wants to copy WWE, which they cannot do, Dixie becoming a heel character is just plastic and pathetic and she is trying to shove it down our throats , which is backfiring, and her “nephew” EC# loks to be as big of a joke as Robbie and Jesse/Brokeback, ALSO bringing back Pacman was done BADLY to say the least and I understand doing it because TNA was in CIncinnati BUT Pacman stood on the apron when he was a “World CHamp” in TNA with Truth doing all the work, as he was not allowed by the NFL to do anything. TNA and Dixie and her mommty and daddy are clearly dropping the ball and need to right this sinking ship before they go under

I would rather see more of an emphasize placed on the mid card than to see the World Heavyweight Championship continue to get devalued. Like why not have stronger mid card feuds with the likes of Del Rio, Ziggler, Sheamus and whatnot over the Intercontinental Championship rather than the curtain jerker spot for the World Heavywright Championship?

    • Bob’s Diner

This. And stop giving the IC title to people just because they have nothing going on. I’m sure they just sit there going ‘Hey Kofi, you haven’t feuded with anyone for a few years. Here’s another IC title reign until we can think of something’

  • Jbreed

The the world championship, before John Cena won it, has always had the same value as what the IC title used to have back when the IC had any value. The world title nowadays is used to create stars (which used to be the purpose of the IC title) instead of being awarded to the number 1 guys like it used to be. So basically they crapped all over the once prestigious WC title. What I think they should do is substitute the WC title with the IC title. Keep the US title for the midcarders and bring back the Cruiserweight title for all those underused, but deserving, smaller guys to fight over

Agreed 1000%. There is no point having a ‘World Title’ to give to the number 2 guy. It feels like they just keep it around now to boost people’s number of world title reigns (how else would Randy Orton become an 11-time world champion)

Have ONE champion called the WWE World Heavyweight champion like it was until the brand split. It would also mean just 1 Money in the Bank match like there should be, as well as cut down the confusion with the Royal Rumble. The winner of that should not be opening WrestleMania to wrestle for the 2nd world title

      • Jbreed

Really good point on the Royal Rumble.

        • Bob’s Diner

Interesting fact regarding that: the only 2 people to win the Royal Rumble and use it to challenge for the WWE Championship?

          John Cena and Randy Orton

Every other winner since WrestleMania 19 has used it to challenge for the WHC. And John Cena this year was the first person to main event after winning the Royal Rumble since WrestleMania XXV, when Randy Orton used it to challenge HHH

  • stoney

The IWC is TNA’s main fanbase and they can’t afford to piss off the IWC. The WWE they can

  • stoney

and 3 years later Orton is now divorced, and has a 2nd wellness violation.

  • Scott Davies

The only way I see the reason to keep the World Heavyweight Championship is to put it on Main event workers & not glorified midcarders like Alberto Del Rio, who is really boring to watch & had one of the most boring feuds ever with Sheamus last year who badly needed to turn heel. Not being a John Cena mark, but I would rather him hold the title as he has star power. Otherwise it is stuck as an opening match title. That to me has made that title an embarrassment to hold. Not everybody is deserving is mean to be world champion, guys like Roddy Piper & Mr Perfect both deserved to be world champions. but they never needed it as they were stars on their own. To be a WWE Champion you have to draw crowds & ratings. Daniel Bryan who I like did not draw a rating, which is why he never got over, WWE Booking did not help, but if he changed the numbers he would be WWE Champion now. but he is not. Alberto Del Rio actually turns people away.

  • Isaac

Come on Richard, we all know Daniel Bryan is one of your favorite workers, if not your favorite worker!

  • BlazeKing

Well, at least Pac-Man did a move this time around… And they had the nerve to put the tag belt on this guy!!!

  • _JIM_

Man was that a cop out answer on who is your favorite worker or what! I don’t think you actually answering the question specifically would hurt other wrestlers feelings or make them not want to talk to you for your site. It may be a difficult question to answer, but if you watch the product as closely as you obviously do, for as long as you have watched it, I find it hard to believe that you don’t have one worker that stands out to you and that you enjoy watching more than others. That’s like answering the question what is your favorite NFL team with I’m a fan of football and don’t have a favorite team. That just annoys me because everyone has a team that they watch more than all the others. The same thing goes with wrestling imo.
