Matt Morgan To WWE?, Wade Barrett’s Return, Plans For The Nexus & Why They Were A Success, Charlie Sheen At SummerSlam

Richard Gray August 3, 2012 Ask WNW 21 Comments

What’s up with Matt Morgan? I haven’t heard or seen anything on him in months. Is he returning to TNA or headed back to his WWE roots?

Matt Morgan has fulfilled all of his contractual obligations with TNA Wrestling and he certainly wants people to believe he’s headed back to WWE. I have heard WWE has interest in Morgan, however, the ongoing litigation is blocking TNA stars with recently expiring deals from signing. I have more about how the lawsuit is hurting talent in a story at this link.

Can you see Wade Barrett returning to face Randy Orton at SummerSlam?

Wade Barrett is advertised for next week’s Smackdown tour in Japan. He hasn’t worked since dislocating his elbow on Raw back in February. A program with Randy Orton is possible but I can’t confirm it’s going to happen at SummerSlam.

What were the plans for The Nexus?

The original Nexus ran its course with WWE getting every ounce of momentum they could out of the faction. Once that was finished it was revamped with CM Punk as the leader but meant to be much more mid-card in scale. Once that ran its course, the faction was split and the members went their separate ways, some finding success with others getting “future endeavored.” Given the success of Daniel Bryan, Wade Barrett and Skip Sheffield, it’s safe to say the original faction was very talented as I have gone on record numerous times in saying that if the group created one star it was a success.

WWE seems to really be leaning towards Daniel Bryan vs. Charlie Sheen at SummerSlam but is that really a good idea considering Sheen isn’t very dependable?

If anyone could get anything out of Charlie Sheen in the ring it would be Daniel Bryan but I would be surprised if WWE tried to do a celebrity match due to the unreliability of Sheen. If they are able to get a deal done, look for Sheen to be involved in some type of role that would feature him as a ringside bystander. For more on Sheen, SummerSlam and Daniel Bryan, read this article on Richard’s Backstage Blog.

Such a Shame to waste a potentially great summer slam match for Bryan – pitting him against sheen will be completely worthless. In my eyes he should still be going at it with punk for the title ( oh the days of feuds that lasted longer than a month or two).

On a side note Richard – i’m a uk resident and visit your site daily. I’m currently in Honk Kong and I’m so pleased I can still catch up with all the wrestling news and read the blogs while I’m away, keeping me up to date. Love the site, keep up the great work.

Thank you Rob. I certainly appreciate your support and hope you have a safe trip home.

I reckon it should be Kane vs Daniel Bryan at summerslam with Sheen as guest referee!

    • Andre

Punk/Daniel has run it's course. AJ was clearly the biggest and best thing about that whole feud. At this point the majority of fans wouldn't be as interested. Punk as champion in general has run it's course, there really isn't any new fresh feuds for him & now they are recycling the same stuff we got last year from Punk with him crying & complaning about not getting the respect he deserves and so on. If the WWE was smart they would of had Cena go over Punk at the 1000 episode the would have him feud with Bryan. Cena/Bryan is a fresh feud that hasn't been done and would be far more intersting then Punk/Bryan at this point.

      • RobUK

I have to respectfully disagree that the Punk/Bryan feud was over. In my eyes it was only just starting. I don’t think you can say the majority of the fans wouldn’t be interested. I think what let it down was there was little to no interference from AJ at the last PPV – I think if they had her choose Bryan and help him when the title the feud could have continued and they could have carried on putting on exceptional matches. Punk v Cena/Show and Possible Bryan v Sheen are both a complete waste at Summer Slam. Also Cena does not need to be champion again – it would just be a waste the guy is already headlining all the PPV without the belt so it would be deconstructive to have him as champion as well.

I can honestly not say whats more boring; Sheen or Nexus… but i am happy i can skip both on YouTube

    • Callum

Nexus was amazing in no way was it boring!

    • Andre

CM Punk is easily more boring then Sheen & Nexus. His run as champ as been easily forgettable.

  • _JIM_

Nexus accomplished way more than WWE had ever hoped IMO. Even though Daniel Bryan was only a member for their debut until he got fired. That exposure and the resullting internet publicity he got when WWE let him go really did a lot to get him over with their audience. Barret also benefitted from his involvement with the group in a big way, and now that Ryback is taking off WWE has to be very pleased with how the whole Nexus angle went down. At least they didn’t try to over do it with Nexus and break it into seperate factions like Nexus Hollywood and Nexus Yellow and Black. Lol. The WWE played it smart and actually let the angle run its course and then killed it off once it had. Which is where WCW went very wrong with the nWo.

  • overtaker

Nexus 1.0 was similar to nwo it brought uncertainty and unpredictability to raw for those month’s unlike todays predictable storylines.we need a new faction in the WWE.

  • ballzdeep34

yea ud be better off booking scott hall than charlie sheen

  • Daniel Lim'ass

Ever thought that The Nexus' purpose only to put Cena and Orton over? Well, that's what happened. Not even Barrett or Punk could save the stable. Barrett's Nexus never got a chance on Cena yet Cena overcame by beating The Nexus inside out. While Orton punted every New Nexus' member and never gave Punk a chance to go over. They could've done something bigger with The Nexus if Barrett pinned Cena at SummerSlam 2010 and won the WWE Title from Orton at Bragging Rights or Survivor Series. Well, that's just my 2 cents anyway. Not in any mean I'm a Cena hater or Orton hater.

  • Bishop

What killed Nexus was John Cena. For him to
Pretty much destroy an entire group all by himself destroyed it. You’ve gotta give it to the writers, they know what they are doing….right?

    • Phill

Totally agree. Can't understand why people are giving your point negativity. Nexus should have won all the titles and been dominant.

  • Jon

The question was "What were the plans for The Nexus", but in no way was it answered. I was looking forward to finding out maybe what the deal was with the "big picture" and the Undertaker/Kane interference, but all the answer was was a history lesson. Redo on Monday perhaps? :-)

  • Sarcastic Smark 2.0

hi richard, iam from india and iam big fan of wwe from age 7, now iam 26 missing those attitude era days ……..and iam big fan of u also richard……can you tel me what is happening with kane….he is a legend and the creative team is wasting his talent by burying him for past few years.ya i know if we ask them they will tel …….dont know what to do with him…….same stuff they did with kharma

    • Tristeza

The amount of things wrong with this comment..

  • LeBron James

I'm sure I might be in the minority here, but wouldn't it be great of Wade Barrett reformed a different version of Nexus? It would give him, Gabriel, and Slater something to be utilized for. Now that they are seasoned, it would be easier to believe they are "unstoppable". Adding some young up and coming superstars in it would only help. I've always been a strong believer that stables equals ratings, when used properly.

  • Kevin

I would say that if the WWE wants to pit Sheen against Bryan, they should make it a surprise attack by Sheen on Bryan at SummerSlam. Advertising it like they did for Sheen being the Social Media Ambassador on the 1000th episode of Raw sets them up for failure when Sheen backs out at the last second (and you know he would). They should invite him to SummerSlam under a storyline where he'll be at ringside, then IF he actually shows up, they can spring the attack scenario on him. Once he's there, he'll be much more likely to go through with that storyline. They can even keep the advertising at a minimum by saying that Sheen has been invited to be at ringside, without saying he'll actually be there. Then, if he pulls a no-show on them, they aren't embarrassed by having advertised him in an actual match.
