Mick Foley Comments On Relationship With Triple H; Exclusive Details On How It Was Actually The Rock That Helped Bring Him Back To WWE

Mick Foley posted the following on Twitter about his relationship with Triple H:

Can I clear up this rumor about me not getting along with Triple H?

Triple H is the man responsible for bringing me back to WWE. I am very happy in my role as WWE Ambassador, and have a variety of WWE projects due out in the next few months: a children’s book, a set of cards that I did the writing for, and the WWE13 game that I am apparently featured prominently in. I am hoping to use the release of the book to become a much larger part of WWE’s “Be A STAR” campaign.

WWE has gone out of their way to clear considerable chunks of time for me, including the Montreal and Edinburgh comedy festivals and the upcoming Singapore Writer’s Festival (more on that in a few days) and February tour of Australia.

And if I ever feel like I need a quick Foley fix; like I absolutely need to hear thousands of people chanting my name? Well, pretty much any house show I want to appear at is just a phone call (or text) away.

There is no higher form of flattery for me than showing up on another WWE Superstar’s highlight video. I was thrilled to be there three times for Triple H.

Bottom line: I’m happy. I’m part of the company I love, and I get to try things on my own. Thank you, Triple H, for bringing me back to WWE.

While Foley is correct Hunter has played a role in bringing him back in WWE, he’s also the reason it wasn’t easy. It’s not that Hunter has any personal issues with Foley it’s just he feels Foley doesn’t look like a star and shouldn’t be a top guy. It’s the same issues he’s had with him since the 90′s. Ultimately, The Rock went directly to Vince McMahon last year which is what led to his return to the company. I was told at the time Hunter enjoyed watching Mick sweat.

You can read my initial report from October 2011 at this link.

Richard Reacts: I understand Foley “playing nice” with his comments but the bottom line is Hunter isn’t a fan of Mick Foley.  Is he cordial with him?  Obviously, or Mick wouldn’t be cashing all the aforementioned WWE paychecks.  However, to act as if they are buddies and it was Triple H that brought Foley back to WWE, is only part of the story.

To anyone (including hhh) who doubts foleys drawing power, remember that famous night on wcw when they announced mick foley had won the wwf/e title and hundreds of thousands changed channel? Mick is a phoenomanal draw and a one of a kind in my opinion

I wonder if part of the HHH/Foley problem isn't just Mick's 'appearance'?
I wonder if part of the problem comes down to Mick's history?

All things considered it should come as no surprise that I call Hunter a 'company man'. He's the ultimate company man, and I mean no disrespect to him when I say that. A few years he'll BE the company.
Mick, on the other hand, is one of those wrestlers/superstars who committed the worst possible sin one can commit when it comes to the WWE Universe… he made his loyal fan base outside of it, and carried that fan base over to the WWE, and carries it with him wherever he goes, and that fan base respects him as a talent and as a person.
Vince didn't make Mick Foley, as the saying goes; Mick Foley made Mick Foley, and from the company's perspective that will always be a black mark.
Even worse than that though, Mick Foley made his career and fan base in a style of wrestling the current WWE corporate powers would prefer had never existed.

When Mick makes an appearance he brings great (albeit sometimes cheap) pops and brings fans, but at the same time he's a constant reminder to older fans of the Attitude Era and Hardcore Wrestling and how things used to be, and for newer fans who don't know the Attitude Era and Hardcore Wrestling, if they see him and Google him or Youtube him, they soon will.
On one hand Mick is a great WWE Ambassador; he's friendly and genuine and loves being out there with fans of all ages and brings a level of civil respect the WWE needs. On the other hand with the other aspect to him I'm often surprised that Vince lets him come back at all.

But then I am incredibly cynical about people's motivations, and about life in general.

HHH is a knobend, talented guy but what a prick he is, never liked him much and after hearing how he has played Foley (one of the guys who made the company huge during AE) and also the comments Bret makes in his book makes me hate him more,

    • Mario

What are those comments please ?

  • Brody

So, basically, you are calling Mick Foley a liar?

    • ChrisH

Our course he is. Because, obviously, he knows much more about Mick Foley’s business than Mick Foley does.
