- We noted earlier in the week that WWE has signed Davina Rose to a developmental contract. Vendetta Pro Wrestling wished her well at this link with a photo. (Thanks to WNW reader Fernando for sending this in.)

- The Express Tribune is reporting that New Japan Pro Wrestling founder and WWE Hall of Famer Antonio Inoki has converted to Islam and changed his name to Muhammad Hussain. Hussain was in Pakistan on Friday for an international wrestling competition.

I’m still gonna call him Inoki

I recall someone saying something similar once. Ah yes, I remember…

"I'm still gonna call him Cassius Clay"

I though the EXACT same thing when I read that comment. I'm all for people's religious freedom, but he may just be the first Japanese Muslim that I've ever heard of. Not that it's a bad thing…

Pardon my ignorance, but are there a limited number of Islamic names to choose from? Seems whenever someone converts, there's not much diversity in their choice of new name.

Actually Muhammad (also written Mohamed, Mohamad) is the most common name because it is the prophet's name. Generally though, I could give you the Muslim equivalent to almost any Biblical name; my name (Ilyas) is the Muslim variant of Elijah for instance. Hope it helps

christianity is no different really nuns who get confirmed get their names changed the POPE chooses a name and it has to fall under certain provisions so it really does not matter

Wow, Is he serious ? I didn't think Japanese could do that.

  • mjledesma

Haha. Like the wrestler from 2005

    • Ken

      That was Hassan, not Hussein.

  • The Big Organ

I’m gonna quote the old barber from Coming To America…”He’s mama named him Clay ima call him Clay!” I mean “he’s mamma named him Inoki ima call him Inoki

Huh. Where did my comment go? Where did you get that photo, Richard? I don’t seem to see any photo credits anywhere.
