New World Champ?, Alternative To 3 Hours Of Raw, TNA’s Paid YouTube, Mysterio/Retirement

What route do you feel WWE should take if Dolph Ziggler can’t defend the World Heavyweight Championship at Extreme Rules due to a concussion?

A lot of people are going to lobby for Dolph Ziggler to vacate the World Heavyweight Championship if he can’t go at Extreme Rules, however, I feel there’s something else that could work. In UFC, if a champion is out for a prolonged period of time they crown an interim champion. When the champion gets healthy, they hold a unification bout. If Ziggler is forced out for an extended period of time due to his concussion, why not crown an interim champion? This would only help WWE going forward by giving them a unification championship match at a later date. This also preserves the time and effort they’ve already put into Ziggler after holding the MITB briefcase for so many months. I will caution we are getting ahead of ourselves and Ziggler hasn’t been ruled out for Extreme Rules yet.

With many people “fatigued” over Raw being three hours each week, would it make more sense to precede a two-hour Raw with a different show. Maybe NXT?

This is an excellent idea and actually the original plan. Vince McMahon stated in a conference call with investors back in 2011 there were plans for a new one-hour live show to air before Monday Night Raw. This was after the resurrected version of WWE Tough Enough had success-preceding Raw on the USA Network from April-June 2011. Ultimately the decision was made to extend Raw to three hours, making the show “more interactive” and incorporating new elements such as WWE Active. I didn’t like it from the day it was announced and don’t like it nearly a year in. Three hours of live WWE Raw is too much every week. It’s too much for the writers and it’s too much for the viewers. WWE doesn’t seem to be getting the message as they’ve been happy with the way the three-hour shows have performed and are adding 30-minute online pre-shows this summer.

What are your thoughts on the new TNA Wrestling PLUS YouTube Channel?

I’m perplexed over TNA Wrestling’s new YouTube channel and have already asked my Facebook friends what they think. The channel is mostly old pay-per-views from 2004 through 2012. The problem I have with this is didn’t TNA recently change the PPV side of their business because there wasn’t enough interest in shows every month? I find it interesting they would market a channel consisting of pay-per-views they no longer produce because they didn’t draw considerable interest. I’d like to see more Impact on the channel. Impact is by far more in demand than the pay-per-views that sometimes drew under 10,000 buys on their first run.

When will Rey Mysterio retire?

I’m not going to be the one to put a time stamp on Rey Mysterio. Rey is one of the best in-ring workers of all-time and has had horrible luck in recent years with knee problems. I hope he can get back for one more run but it’d be irresponsible to predict a retirement date. I’m rooting for Mysterio to get healthy.

Christian (as Interim champ) vs Ziggler (world heavy champion). Christian would be the perfect guy to execute an angle like that with.

    • TheBigKing1

Yeah that’s what I was thinking. Either him or Jericho. If not either, then I don’t want it. In a matter of fact, I just rather Ziggler be cleared and healthy time Extreme Rules so we don’t have to worry about this. But that interim thing is my second choice…just those 2, that’s it.

  • KaiFoxx

Gutted my questions never made it I hope you have an opinion richard even if you email me them!

  • Monty

First the question was why is wwe buying Ziggler and why isn’t he winning the title than to when he won now people are tired of him

That’s why I am glad vice pays no attention to bunch of Internet smart wrestling fans who think they are above others.

When punk was hrt he missed PPV yet kept the title so why can’t Ziggler do the same? Because he isn’t your precious champ when he rise to the top has been through paying his dues

We the IWC aren’t as big as we think we are, we are very small percentage of fans and wwe knows we will watch no matter what

    • Xavier

Exactly, I’ve been saying that for months. Vince will never cater to a section of fans that constantly change their minds and shit on everything that’s not from the ROH. They begged for The Rock return and then we Vince brought him back a portion of the IWC shits on him. When Vince pushed Punk to the moon, it still wasn’t good enough for most within the IWC, everyone wanted Brock to comeback, and now most of the IWC complains that they are tired of part timers coming back.

        Protip:

The term “Internet Wrestling Community” is used by those to do not like professional wrestling to mock the people that do. There is no difference between a wrestling fan that sits in an arena when it comes to their area and a wrestling fans who discusses wrestling on the internet. Both would just be “fans”.

        • Xavier

No not really, that term is used to describe wrestling fans who read dirt sheets, discuss various wrestling topics on an internet form, read spoilers,. Most wrestling fans don’t do that. The average wrestling fan doesn’t watch ROH or things like that. We are a small portion of wrestling fans. We maybe make up 15-20% of wrestling fans around the world.

          • TheBigKing1

            Exactly!

      • tomcatjerrymouse

And most fans (like myself) complained about The Rock main venting aother WM and yet WM 29 (which I didn’t buy) became the highest selling event. Most fans are hypocrites.

      • TheBigKing1

        So true

  • Chris

I like the interim champ route, makes me think of the old Razor Vs. Shawn Michaels Ladder match for the IC title. Maybe they should think about doing this anyway, even if he IS cleared to return by the PPV.

  • BobCobb

An interim champion? Really… Really….. Really? That’s a terrible idea

    • lee

Its a great idea, you must not have seen the great promo’s leading to a great and ladder match from HBK v RR.

  • tomcatjerrymouse

Fortunaltely it’s a triple thrteat match so Dolph Ziggler could still work the match but give the other two guys most of the load and it prevents Ziggler from taking bumps.

It would all depend on how long Ziggler is out for. It sounds like a serve concussion & if so. He could be out for months. Interim champion sounds like a good idea, but this is WWE. If we all know WWE we all know there will be a new champion & a surprise champ. RVD or Christian are the names I would put out there.

  • _JIM_

I really like Richard’s “interim Champ” idea to use for the WHC if Ziggler can’t go at Extreme Rules. It would also be a chance to get somebody some instant credibility by putting the belt on them. Even if it’s only on an interim basis.

  • Smart Mark

I like the idea about the WH title that you said Richard. I think it would be a nice story line to have Ziggler give Big E the title to look after while he is out so it would be like seeing how Big E does with a major title without legitimately having the title. When Ziggler comes back they make it that Big E doesn’t wanna give back the title and thus causing the separation feud.
