URGENT - Tell US Congress To Vote NO On PIPA & SOPA!

Shares 0

Attention all US Wrestling News World readers:

There is an urgent issue that demands your immediate and full attention. Our Constitutional Rights are under attack by two bills before Congress. The Protect IP Act (PIPA) in the Senate and the Stop Online Piracy Act (SOPA) in the House. Both of these bills would censor the Web and impose harmful regulations on American business. These bills would allow the government to function without limits in blocking content.

What the United States government hopes to accomplish by the aforementioned bills is to stop people from illegally downloading material protected by copyright laws. However, the problem is that they've gone way too far. If these bills are voted into law, websites could be blocked on a DNS level, meaning they would no longer be accessible through your computer.

Today, Google and the English version of Wikipedia are protesting with "black outs." The Senate will begin voting on PIPA on Tuesday, January 24, 2012. It's crucial that you urge Congress to vote NO on PIPA and SOPA before it's too late.

You can do so at the petition hosted by Google below:

Tell Congress: Please don't censor the web!

  • TruHeel

I’m in the uk and don’t know too much about this, but if passed im guessing they will censor the web worldwide and not just in the US?

  • MsMojoRisin

i signed the petition because youtube is how i watch classic wrestling

  • spike westphal

if that bill passes it will be the end off the internet

    • bcfuy

yes,for usa…but remember, other countries have censored net to there respective countries for years now. we were just lucky…but maybe no more

      • Jaryd

I don't think you should count yourself "lucky" to have freedom of expression and exploration of the internet. It seems like a pretty basic human right. Unfortunately the nation that proclaims "liberty for all" is in fact the foremost nation in the western world for regression of individual liberty.

  • WyFo

Why can’t the government ever get their heads out of their ass?

    • Ernest Bethea

Because doing that would mean they would FINALLY be doing what's best for the country instead of doing what's best for… (wait for it…) THEMSELVES!!!

  • Cheddar

I'd like to thank you Richard for posting this and getting the news out about this horrible bill. Best of luck to you, hoping this will not happen.

  • Tiffany

Congress is in the pocket of those who get them elected, namely those that want this billed to get passed. Hopefully the White House will live up to it's pledge to veto these bills if they do get passed.

    • Synyster

But we can change that if the people get off their fat (sorry for the language but we need to make a point) asses and show the government we the 99% overpower their 1%

  • Kleck

Please join our protest against this overreaching bill!

  • Scott

Thank you for putting your support behind this. It's nice to finally see that people are actually beginning to understand exactly what this bill is. Before today, I'm pretty sure I was the only person I knew that understood of SOPA's existence. The power of the Internet is amazing!

  • Mat

wouldn't this site technically be screwed if SOPA passed?

    • wnwdotcom2

McMahon could easily shut down any dirt sheet site if this passed.

      • Luke

I feel like if Vince did that then he would lose a considerable amount of viewers

        • Bault16

          Why would that be?

  • IMGRyan

This site and many other websites will be screwed. Google, Facebook, Wikipedia, etc. – kiss all these sites good bye. Enjoy boring CNN.com where all content is written with a media bias. This has got to be STOPPED and the only way it will be is if EVERYONE steps up, calls their local representatives, and sign every single petition out there. I'm fully prepared to organized a group to go to Washington D.C. and protest live.

  • Damn! Government r trying to take r freedom to go online. ARE YOU SERIOUS BRO!

  • Tim

does this mean no online video games cause i couldn’t get on this morning

  • Ubereem

"What the United States government hopes to accomplish by the aforementioned bills is to stop people from illegally downloading material protected by copyright laws"

I don't live in the US so i'm not clued up on what exactly is involved in the bills, however i can't see how anyone can complain about the US goverment trying to stop illegal downloding & streaming! It costs companies like the UFC/WWE/NFL & all other major sport brands millions & millions of dollars per year!

    • eurosario

At the same time they’ll shut down any website it fells is breaking there rules without a guideline to keep them on the straight and narrow like youtube for example.

  • Luke

In the words of Ron Simmons, “DAMN!!”

  • sal

they dont want alternative news web sights so they will use this bill so everything you see has been approved by the government there propaganda will not be affected. welcome to the new world order

  • matty25
