Richard Reacts To WWE vs. TNA - March 8, 2010

Written by Richard Gray on Mar 8, 2010 - 11:11:40 PM

9:08 PM EST: I'm watching Impact right now. They're opening strong with the main event. They got Hogan out there at 9 PM sharp to take advantage of the hot live crowd. We have several members of our staff in attendance. Word from inside the taping was it was very crowded before the show.

9:10 PM EST: Sting is revealed as surprise one. I don't like how they used him to stop the match, especially with Ric Flair making his "comeback".

9:12 PM EST: Hogan & Abyss vs. Flair & Styles was crushed by overbooking. They're trying to do too much with star power and blood. Oh, Hulk's announcing a restart so we're going to get the main event again except for a no-disqualification match. Overbooking but I understand why they're doing it. Trying to hook the audience and keep them. Certainly forcing it.

9:14 PM EST: First TNA commercial and WWE opened with Shawn Michaels and The Undertaker which is certainly the right thing to do. I missed the opening segment but I'll catch it on my DVR later.

9:16 PM EST: Both shows are at commercial - WWE just announced Cody Rhodes & Ted DiBiase vs. Randy Orton for tonight.

9:19 PM EST: He may have a heart attack doing it one day but Ric Flair can still cut one of the best promos in the business. Not sure what I think about Abyss going nuts.

9:21 PM EST: Over on Raw Eve looks good with some dropkicks on Maryse. Best work I've seen from a WWE Diva on TV in awhile. No Pillow Fight tonight - maybe Vince is paying attention. Haha, wait King just mentioned it.

9:23 PM EST: Eve's push continues as she makes the Divas Champion tap out. She looked good there and from what I saw of that 6-Diva tag it was a good TV match. They're teasing that we'll hear from Triple H on Sheamus' assault last week. Oh no, Hornswoggle is with Angel.

9:24 PM EST: Kazarian is the perfect guy to resurrect the X Division. He's got the look, can talk and can work the mic. Enjoying his segment with Daniels.

9:30 PM EST: Too much talking in a segment that was going pretty good until Doug Williams and Eric Bischoff got involved. It would be hard for a casual fan to follow.

9:36 PM EST: Great TV match with Doug Williams retaining against Daniels and Kazarian. Another surprise after the match - Shannon Moore. Moving too quick but that was great work by Kaz, Daniels and Williams. It's Williams vs. Shannon Moore at Destination X.

9:45 PM EST: "Awesome Kong & Hamada failing to defend the belts in 30 days so they're vacated" - Mike Tenay. So that's how you're going to play it TNA? Oh well, at least Lacey isn't in this match. TNA's turn for women wrestling. The show hasn't been bad but it's moving too fast.

9:46 PM EST: My goodness - terrible overbooked finish to switch the belts and already back to an interview with The Pope. I understand TNA wants to show the world what they are about but they're here to stay - on Monday nights - so they should slow what they're trying to do. Wolfe is taking out Pope within two minutes of the Knockout Tag Title match ending.

9:51 PM EST: I've missed a good bit of Raw live (I'll catch up later) but they're going with Rhodes & DiBiase vs. Orton for the 10 PM main event. I'm interested to see what happens in the progression of the Legacy implosion angle. The tempo of Raw is much better than Impact, I cannot stress enough how badly they need to slow things down.

9:56 PM EST: Now they're killing time on Impact. The crowd was already chanting RVD before he was announced. No surprise as Hogan spoiled it earlier in the week. Huge pop for Van Dam.

9:57 PM EST: Wow they just squashed Sting. I didn't like that but here comes the post-match beatdown.

10:04 PM EST: "This is a chaotic scene out here" - Taz. It's been a chaotic show with a lot happening. They've had a title change (TNA Knockout Tag Titles), two debuts (Shannon Moore & RVD) and already the main event. Lots of action but it would be hard for a casual fan to follow.

10:07 PM EST: The Orton babyface transformation is complete - at least for now - as he put over Legacy tonight. They just plugged Austin for next week.

10:12 PM EST: Nash just called Waltman X-Pac... Tenay and Taz are calling him Syxx Pac. No one knows who he's working as anymore! Hah, Nash just infringed on WWE's trademark.

10:23 PM EST: Awesome Kong just showed her backside on Twitter. While I was carried away with that, Young squashed Waltman. Not a bad show for TNA per-say - just too much, too quick.

10:32 PM EST: No matter how many times I see Evan Bourne do the Shooting Star Press it never gets old. This year's Wrestlemania card just got even stronger with the addition of Bourne to the Money in the Bank ladder match.

10:35 PM EST: I turn back to TNA and it's EARL HEBNER. Goodness everyone is getting on TNA TV tonight!

10:42 PM EST: McMahon vs. Cena is going to get a ton of time if this is going to close the show. Vince thinks he can outsell Hogan & TNA himself!

10:46 PM EST: When Jeff Jarrett founded TNA he was headling all their shows. Now he jobs to Beer Money. Let's the way it goes BROTHER!

10:47 PM EST: What is Brooke trying to launch her acting career now? Those are the fakest tears I've seen all night.

10:56 PM EST: McMahon vs. Cena is now a gauntlet match Cena must survive. Good last minute stip.

11:03 PM EST: In the PG era of no blood it's refreshing to see some good old fashion color added to a match. Nobody bleeds like Flair!

11:06 PM EST: Outstanding main event for TNA - I really enjoyed that bout. Hogan & Flair got their blows in but they let Abyss and Styles build their PPV main event and gave Abyss a clean pin over the champ.

11:08 PM EST: Interesting Spike TV gave Impact more of an overrun than USA gave Raw. Great to see Jeff Hardy to end the show. No problem with the post-match stuff as it didn't affect the outcome of a stellar main event.

Final thoughts: I am going to go back and catch the parts of Raw I missed but TNA Impact was an enjoyable show tonight. It wasn't without its flaws. There was overbooking and the show was paced way too quickly but it was entertaining. Many fans are thirsty for an alternative or at least something that isn't geared towards a 12-year-old. Tonight was a big night for TNA and they pulled off a very solid show when they had too. I'm not going to say TNA is going to win this war - but they are going to do all they can to be competitive. It's sink or swim for TNA and I am very interested for the ratings data to come out tomorrow evening. Stay tuned and have a great night everyone! Thanks for watching with us!
