Reforming Nation Of Domination, WWE Producing TV-14 Programming, Paige’s Potential, Vince McMahon Becoming Jerry Jones?

What are your thoughts on WWE bringing back The Nation of Domination with R-Truth, Xavier Woods, Kofi Kingston and Big E?

There has been some speculation about WWE re-forming The Nation of Domination faction but I cannot confirm that such plans will ever make it to television. While I do think it would help bring some attention to Xavier Woods and Kofi Kingston, two very talented workers capable of more, and give Big E a storyline, I’m not high up on multiple factions. I hate to pick on TNA here but they provide a good example of “faction overkill.” Factions are great when done in moderation with a limited shelf life. However, constant factions forming/breaking up becomes confusing for the average fan and given the historic over-saturation of factions like the new World order, they can also become rather exhausting. WWE already has The Shield, Evolution, The Wyatt Family, 3MB, The Authority, is there really a need for another?

Speaking of Evolution, I thought some would enjoy the following posting in the June 2014 issue of WWE Magazine:

I know this would never happen but what would be your thoughts on Raw being TV-14 and Smackdown being a TV-PG show?

I wouldn’t mind WWE producing shows geared towards separate audiences. In fact, I wouldn’t be opposed to the first two hours of Raw being TV-PG and the final hour being TV-14. In the company’s attempt to create programming suitable for the whole family, they’ve also somewhat alienated their older fans. The chances of WWE backing off their TV-PG commitment are slim, as you noted, but “edgier” programming for older/more mature viewers wouldn’t be a bad thing. However, I will also note that TV-PG can be entertaining as long as WWE doesn’t go too far with it. This is something even Vince McMahon himself admitted when the change was first made.

I love Paige. I think she’s one of the few Diva of her generation to have the entire package and I see a bright future for her. But I can’t shake the feeling that this title run has been misused since arriving to the main WWE roster. Do you think people can lose interest in her if she, as a champion, doesn’t come up strong enough?

I too am very high up on Paige. She has the look, the in-ring ability and the character to have a great career in WWE. Like Natalya, she grew up around the wrestling business, so that tells me she has the passion to be successful. However, her rocket pack push to the main roster as WWE Divas Champion has not worked well. I’ve heard and reported that the company has been disappointed with Paige’s push, citing a lack of reaction at live events. Rather than company officials souring on her, many feel it’s a case of her being nervous and that in time she will work out fine. As I mentioned in Ask WNW last week, I believe it’s a situation of too much too fast. Rarely do title runs right out of the gate work out and while some may point to Sheamus getting a title run out of the gate, I even felt that was underwhelming. There is a chance of fans losing interest and company officials souring on Paige but she’s talented enough where I believe she’ll come out of this funk.

Is Vince McMahon becoming Jerry Jones?

As a Dallas Cowboys fan (I know, save the jokes), I can unequivocally tell you that Vince McMahon and Jerry Jones are cut from the same cloth. Vince McMahon isn’t becoming Jerry Jones, he is Jerry Jones (and vice versa). They’re master promoters and that’s why they run two of the most successful organizations in the entire world. Now, if you’re talking about some of the questionable personnel decisions that Jones has made, alleging he’s “out of touch,” that’s a fair criticism. Vince has done some things that make people feel like he’s out of touch. I believe that Vince McMahon understands the pro wrestling business more than anyone else. He “gets it” and has the personality where he’s not going to let anyone or anything dictate what he does. The same can be said for Jerry Jones in terms of promotion and running a successful business (not so much about winning). Vince got in trouble with the new domestic TV deal by “being Vince McMahon.” He was doing what he always does, creating hype. No one means as much to WWE as Vince McMahon and even at the current stage, where Triple H is being groomed as his successor, the company needs him to be successful.

From the Ask WNW vault…

July 2012: When workers do media appearances are they supposed to be in-character or out of character? - It really depends on the worker and the appearance. Sometimes workers are 100% in-character, sometimes they are 100% out of character and other times, it’s a combination of the two. In the interviews I’ve done, I’ve experienced a little bit of everything and found it all depends on the worker’s objective. There are some workers, such as Sheamus, that are usually always in-character which is definitely the “old school” mentality. However, there isn’t one universal way to behave and it depends on the aforementioned factors.

Too many factions…ie LWO…Latino world order

    • Vic Jose

Too many factions when one faction splits in half like the NWO! lol

  • Ian P.

During the attitude era there were quite a few factions as well…
    DOA
    Nation of Domination
    Hart Foundation
    DX
    Ministry
    Team Extreme
    Right to Censor

    • Ian P.

Am I missing any? I thought it provided more story lines.

        The Stooges
        Kai en tai
        Team 3D
        The Acolytes
        T&A

        • DW

Some of those are just tag teams that had feuds, and/or a manager.

        • Mark McGinnis

Alot of these were tag teams but some of the actual factions were around at different times during that era.

        • Avalanchian

          Spirit Squad !!!!!

Head Cheese and Dudleys (not Team 3D), Stooges, Acolytes, T&A, Posse, Too Cool are all tag teams!

    • Bob’s Diner

Those weren’t all active at the same time; DOA and Hart Foundation were gone around 1998, Nation of Domination was done by the end of that year too, Ministry was only around 1999 and no one cared about Right to Censor

      • Vic Jose

Are kidding, Right To Censor was good.

        • Bob’s Diner

OK, you cared about Right to Censor ;-)

How hard would it have been to make Paige a vignette like Adam Rose and Bo Dallas? I mean they did a terrible job introducing her to people that don’t watch NXT. I love Paige but just like every other Diva they have no idea what to do with her.

    • Dave Barton

They were going for “shock” factor…not that I appreciated it very much.

    • Vic Jose

Biggest problem was that they made her look weak in the match, to kiss up to Punk I suppose, and they thought everyone knew who she was, when that wasn’t the case. A much better match and finish would have helped a lot, so would some kind of build up.

  • DW

That is a terrible list for the nation of domination. They had a chance to do it when Mark Henry was getting his hall of pain push, and if memory service me right the rock was around as well. They could have def put Ko Fi with them and maybe one more guy. But that faction could have been ridiculous. To bad the Rock’s image is to big now. I wonder if the Rock will end up being wealthier than Vince at some point.

I know it’s early Richard but you should have a WNW fantasy League.

    • Super duper

That is not a terrible list that is the list of wrestlers the WWE was going with because it is connection of them going against rusev so that why they made that list

    • Vic Jose

I agree that Mark should be in it as the leader!

  • Ring Leader

The other problem with TNA’s recent factions is that they haven’t been all that memorable, at least to the TNA fan. Both the factions of Immortal and Fortune had an inconsistent and revolving list of members, certain guys would just disappear and since both factions had a storyline ‘partnership/alliance,’ I just saw them together as one giant clutter anyway. The team of EGO with Daniels, Kazarian and Roode were great, but I could have sworn that team only lasted for barely a month. For me personally, TNA’s best effort in creating a good and solid faction for entertaining storylines was seen with Aces & Eights and the original Main Even Mafia from 2008.

    • Guest

I totally TOTALLY agree with EVERYTHING you said.

  • WWE fan forever

If they have the new nation of domination and the disgruntles I wouldn’t mind the two stables going against each other soon since they both have wrestlers being misused like R-Truth and Kofi in the nation of domination and the disgruntles like ziggler and ryder

I love the comparison with Vince and jerry jones. But I have to disagree . Vince is somewhat out of touch. But he’s made decisions that have changed wwe for the good . The same can’t be said about jerry. . Who IMO has absolutely no business being the gm of the cowboys. That’s why they’re the laughing stock of the nfl right now. Don’t get me wrong ! Jerry is a great owner. . But a very disappointment as a gm. I know people are going to say ” what about those Super Bowl wins back in the 90 a?” . All I have to sat to that is . How much of that was jerry jones or Jimmie Johnson being the coach? Right now the cowboys are a joke. . They pay a qb that can’t be trusted a top salary, and keep a head coach that has more losses than wins. Vince is also a little stubborn himself. But eventually Vince sees the writing on the wall. . I can’t say the same for jerry jones . It seems jerry is perfectly happy with the circus. / train wreck that is the Dallas cowboys.

    • J Vomkrieg

Please. As a Lions fan, call me once you have had an 0-16 season. That’s when you are the laughing stock of the league. Being 8-8 only makes you a laughing stock if you have unreasonable expectations for your team. 8-8 is one or two plays removed from the playoffs, and thats a very small margin.

      • Steve pritchard

Tony romo has one playoff victory. Just 1! Jason garret has more losses than wins. So how is that not mediocre? 1 game removed from the playoffs two years in a row is still removed from the playoffs. But yet ol jerry still hasn’t got rid of Garrett and Romo is getting paid top salary . At least your lions had enough sense to draft stafford . Tony Romo sux and jerry jones refuses to see it.

        • J Vomkrieg

That means Romo has the same number of playoff victories as the lions have had since 1958 (Ironically, that was in 1991 vs the Cowboys). I agree that they are an average, middle level team right now. But they certainly are not the laughing stock of the NFL :)

Trust me my friend, there are a lot worse places to be than 8-8. So while i understand you are frustrated with your team as you (and a lot of Cowboy fans) expect greatness. You don’t have a legacy of shame like the Lions or the Browns. Fans of those teams would kill to have a playoff win, let alone 5 Super Bowl wins.

          • Steve pritchard

I get what your saying! Btw the cowboys are not my team. I’m from Atlanta . Shhhh don’t tell anybody ! Nah just kidding! I love my falcons. I think they’re just a few pieces away from a Super Bowl appearance . Your lions aren’t that bad. I had the chance to see stafford in his college days at UGA. . And I can say he’s a more reliable qb than tony romo!

  • Mike McCarthy

You can’t consider 3MB a faction, they’ve been together for about 2 years now and haven’t won a single PPV match. Also, you can’t consider The Authority AND Evolution separate factions. I’d be in favor of reforming the Nation of Domination in more of a viable mid card role.

    • Vic Jose

I don’t even consider the Authority a faction, they are the boss, that’s it.

  • Avalanchian

The problem I have with Paige probably isn’t even her fault. They seem to make her look like a total sissy girl. She is supposed to have roar or whatever to her but I’m just not seeing it in the ring. It’s usually her getting beat up left and right then does 1 move to win. It’s no wonder the crowd can’t get behind that if she doesn’t truly show off her wrestling skills. Personally I have loved what I have seen of Emma and her moves. I know Paige can wrestle, but I’m just not sure why she is booked like she is.

  • Charlie Crimefighter Hovey

3mb isn’t a faction and neither is the authority.. Factions should be more than 3 ppl.. There isn’t a real faction in wwe right now

    • j vomkrieg

      Hornswoggle is people too :)

  • J Vomkrieg

They need to do something with Big E. For about a month he was starting to get over, and then they forgot him in the Wrestemania build and his push died.

He’s a physical freak, awesome combo of speed and size, and hes actually not at all bad on the microphone. I’ve been pleasantly suprised when he has had the chance to speak.

Fortunately, he is still young and has a solid future. I just hope he isn’t the next Ezekiel Jackson.

  • Robert Olley

But the nation of domination was a heel faction how could you have four faces in a group that was designed to be heels i oculd not see wee turning big,r-truth,kofi kingston and xavier woods
