Released Stars To TNA?, WWE's Bizarre Day, Plans For Heath Slater, Not Shying Away From Negative Press

Note from Richard: There will be no Ask WNW next week as I'm taking my one vacation/holiday of the year. The next installment of Ask WNW will run on Monday, June 23, 2014. Thank you for your support!

With all the recent cuts WWE has made and TNA's need to bolster their roster, is here any chance that superstars like Evan Bourne or Brodus Clay get signed by TNA?

There is absolutely a chance, however, we have to remember that TNA is being very economical in their signings. If any of the released workers were willing to work at the rate TNA wanted to pay them, they could obviously choose to sign a contract. However, AJ Styles has shown there is still a very active independent scene to work on and there is the option of going to Japan as well. Jeff Jarrett, boss of Global Force Wrestling, teased interest in the released talent on Twitter.

Why did WWE announce the releases of Jinder Mahal, Drew McIntyre, Aksana and Marc Harris prior to Smackdown airing?

Nothing WWE did on Thursday made sense. The timing of the releases, the fact Stephanie McMahon was scheduled for a major appearance and keynote speech at the same time or Mark Henry's ill-timed "birthday" Tweet, where he's now threatened Curt Hawkins if he doesn't apologize. I have no idea why WWE was so careless in the announcements and will tell you it was very un-WWE like. Perhaps they feel after the disappointing TV licensing agreement, they aren't as worried about negative publicity. Maybe they wanted to get the announcements over and done with before the end of the week but I can't explain it. As someone that follows WWE very closely, I was much more surprised with how WWE handled the releases than any of the actual cuts.

What are the plans for Heath Slater, do you see a push in his future since 3MB is no more?

Health Slater is fortunate to be employed by WWE after his fellow 3MB members received pink slips this week. His release would have looked really bad considering the company just announced his daughter was born last week. Slater is a talented guy but currently used as an enhancement talent. I can't say I see a push coming because WWE has shown nothing to indicate one.

I thought Triple H was against publicized releases and preferred to let contracts expire. What's with Thursday's series of releases on behalf of WWE?

As stated, nothing WWE did on Thursday made sense. Many of the names that were released were considered to be on the company chopping block and the names that were on TV, such as the 3MB members, Marc Harris or Aksana - none of them were being prominently featured. Triple H had a policy in place for well over a year (if not longer) to downplay releases, allowing for contracts to expire and refused to make mass cuts public. Maybe Vince McMahon decided it was time to send a message they were cutting dead weight. I chronicled the bizarre day in an in-depth piece at this link. After 7 years of working to downplay and eliminate negative publicity, WWE saw a swift reversal on Thursday. Things haven't died down either. On Thursday night, Mark Henry, who Curt Hawkins called an idiot, threatened Hawkins. Henry, who has an active WWE contract, was certainly not very Be-A-Star like in his response to Hawkins name calling.

From the Ask WNW vault…

June 2012: Why does Vince McMahon hate Jim Ross so much and ridicule him? - I am assuming you are talking about Vince McMahon’s impersonation of Jim Ross in the segment with Hornswoggle on Raw Supershow. Vince does not hate Jim Ross, Vince likes to bully him. It’s like Vince gets some type of sick pleasure by picking on JR. One thing to keep in mind is WWE is ran under the high school jock mentality with some people getting bullied for the sake of a cheap laugh. It’s very disrespectful, especially to a legend such as Jim Ross who is the best play-by-play man in the history of the wrestling business.

Once again, I will be off next week. The next installment of Ask WNW is scheduled to run on Monday, June 23, 2014.

You can submit a question for the next installment of Ask WNW at this link. If you have problems with the form, you can send your question to [email protected].

  • Sean Scannell

How bout a guest host ask wnw? Kendra?

    • Just say no

      No, that sounds awful.

      • Mysterion

Maybe we should ask you to do it then? As you’re clearly so much better.

        • You guys serious? If you’re interested, I’ll talk to Richard.

          • Venom

I don’t mind if it’s you, other knowledgable staff members if one person does it for the week or each person does one for the day.

          • Simon Veitch

Heck even if they work together as a team to answer questions. After all, it’s AskWNW, not ask Richard, we’ve got premium mailbag for Richards direct stuff anyway 🙂

          • Venom

Unfortunately, I don’t think it’s gonna happen. I don’t think Richard will approve.

          • Mysterion

Yea. As stated above, AskWNW is like a staple. And after Richard you’re best qualified by a long shot.

          • Um, wow, thank you. That honestly means more to me than you know. I sent Richard a message to let him know that I’d love to do it for the week.

          • Mike Elliott

I hope he agrees. It would be very nice to see Ask WNW from a different side. I expect this ever weekday (which I know is a little selfish) but since I’ve been coming to this site for 4 years now, It’s just expected. lol. Make it happen Richard.

          • Chris

I wouldn’t be against doing it for a day, but I have no connections, so it would mostly be me going off on tangents.

          • Scott Davies

Well i mean i bet you have an opinion on things different from Richard. You are fans too after all.

      • ldb

what’s wrong with Kendra? I feel Richard has a good staff and any of them could do a good WNW as well as Richard.

  • Venom

I was gonna say but someone beat me to it. Why can’t Kendra, Bill and any other WNW staff members guest the askWNW? Each day a different person does them. AskWNW is more of an OCD thing. I was annoyed when we didn’t have a Wednesday one.

    • isaac

I was annoyed as well Richard announced it would be up.and didnt eveb an explanation I go on every morning

      • Venom

It’s part of my OCD. I have to visit this and another site. The other site I check does them on weekends but what annoys me about them is they answer questions in advance. Like they’ll answer a question about a PPV match on the Friday but post it on Monday or Tuesday which makes the answer late.

I like WNW as the answers are current. Even answers a question of a news that happened a few hours ago. Just wish they were everyday even if someone qualified enough to answer them.

        • Guest

Its 5 days a week. Stop being greedy. Like you said, you know someone else that does them once a week…and its not current…and most wrestling websites dont do it AT ALL….so what are you complaining for?? Smh

          • Venom

If anything it’s a compliment to the site and Richard that I like reading this section. And read my post carefully, they do q&a everyday. On holidays and weekends. But I also said sometimes they answer questions a few days in advance so the answers are no longer relevant.

    • David Jr.

      Who’s Bill?

      • Venom

I think there is a Bill. Of not I meant there would be more then one staffer doing askWNW for the day. Just like the unmentioned other site they alternate on who does the q&a.

  • Nathen

I hope Hawkins uses those tweets to press charges on Mark Henry. It is very childish to threaten bodily harm. Mark Henry needs to do more than be a star, he needs to be a grown up.

    • David F

Henry needs to man up and apologize to Hawkins. Henry needs some social media lessons. Plus if anyone watches JBL Cole Show Heath Slater plays JBL’s nephew Clem Layfield and he is hysterical in that role. Heath can adopt the Clem Layfield gimmick on WWE TV.

    • Ty

Oh my, are you serious? Press charges? What kind of world are we living in?

      • Nathen

One where it is not okay to threaten somebody. When is threatening someone ever okay? Even if Hawkins is in the wrong(which I don’t think he is) a threat is not an appropriate response. We teach this to children in grade school.

        • Ty

People need to man up. I doubt the guy is making this as big of a deal as you or anybody else.

    • ldb

I m sorry I don’t think Henry is in the wrong. Did he say I know where you live Im gonna burn your house, beat you up, steal your dog? Come on. I think he was expressing wanting an apology for being called an idiot when he had no idea what happened. You know with the same anger Hawkins called him an idiot. They just need to drop it from both sides. Social media is always a hindrance. No matter what is posted someone has a problem with it that just leads to more problems.

  • realityera2k14

Richard you mentioned how Vince wasn’t happy about ric flair returning so do you think maybe this was him getting back at triple h ? He has done worse …

    • Bob’s Diner

I was thinking this myself – maybe he told HHH that he could have Flair but he was going to cut some talent loose

      • realityera2k14

The only one im actually bothered about to be fair is drew ,all the rest didn’t seem to have that much to offer and this may push the roster a bit as it shows them they are at risk and dont have to just sit out their contracts

      • vince mcmahon rules

vince is still the boss. if vince did not want old man flair in wwe than he would not be involved in wwe in ANY capacity. FLAIR is 65 years old. if flair returns to wwe, it will be as a manager and nothing more; McMahon knows that flair is a “child” to some degree and he can not be trusted fully because he still leads the rassling life style.

        • Bob’s Diner

No sure why you had write FLAIR in all caps. Were you just wanting to shout his name?

  • Winnipeg

Man Heath was getting good and entertaining when he was jobbing to all the legends. That was a good gimick and then they buried him.

  • David

I was honestly surprised that Mahal and McIntyre were on the chopping block because from what i know, 3MB is really well received, and McIntyre has all the credibility to be a champion. Honestly, most of the workers that were released could’ve been a big player in the midcard or even help bolster the tag division. But the problem is just creative, and therefore Vince McMahon, giving them silly storylines with El Torito, or making them nothing more than jobbers, when they really have the talent to carry the company in the future.

  • King James

Henry is from the hood, you don’t call another man an idiot in the hood and expect no retaliation. Maybe Hawkins will learn from this threat. It was disrespectful.

    • Nathen

That is how children handle things. There is no place for threatening someone at the adult table. I don’t care where you are from.

    • Mysterion

Is this comment racist? It sounds racist. It sounds like you’re basically saying “don’t insult black men, they’re all violent idiots with a bloodlust”. And secondly, what has Hawkins got to learn exactly? The guy had JUST lost his damn job. And as the attached picture shows, Henry probably knew. “Hood” or not, this is just Mark Henry being a bully and a dick

    • J Vomkrieg

Mark is from Silsbee, Texas, population 6000 or so.

That is hardly “the hood”, its more like “smalltown USA”

    • Bob’s Diner

What was disrespectful was tweeting about how awesome you are for not getting released like 11 other people.

  • Rus

Wow Im glad Heath Slater kept his job especially with a new mouth to feed at the table, my boss fired me last week because my wife had a baby and I took a week off to help her

  • GOR

Y aksana ? She’s so gorgeous n good in the ring too !

    • Ricky

No she was horrible. Also if you are going to post here at least learn to spell.

  • Michael Rubin

vince mcmmahon dislikes jim ross he and everyone can sugarcoat it but that’s been well documented over the years

    • vince mcmahon rules

vince McMahon does not “dislike” jim ross. McMahon put ross in HIS hof. McMahon KEPT ross as his lead announcer for many years. the fact is that time marches on and things change. Michael cole is the NEW voice of wwe and jim ross has moved on with other projects.

      • Michael Rubin

yes he does dislike jim ross chris jehrico and others have said so he will put anyone in the hof regardless of personal feelings as long as it can make him money thats the facts

        • Honestly, we don’t know the true facts, as we are not those people, but yes, McMahon has show dislike for certain people in the past.

          • Geordie Dolph

Would we be right in thinking Richard didn’t go for the idea of you guest hosting ask WNW this week?

          • No, and he made the right decision. I have to say that I don’t know how he does all of this himself. Not that we are struggling to keep up, and Richard has his own systems for getting things done, but it’s a lot of work, even split between those of us.

          • vince mcmahon rules

even if McMahon does not “really like” jim ross, it is HIS business. jim ross is gone from wwe and he does not live in Greenwich, ct. so McMahon does not have to see him anymore.
jim ross did reveal that McMahon checked up on him after his recent health issue so this is proof that McMahon cares about his well-being.

  • Scott Davies

Well it was not very “be a star” Of Curt Hawkins to attack Mark Henry like that either.
