Report: Rampage Jackson To Box Roy Jones Jr. On PPV

MMAJunkie.com is reporting that Viacom is expected to announce a pay-per-view boxing match between Roy Jones Jr. and Quinton “Rampage” Jackson at next week’s Bellator 97 event on Spike TV.

According to the report, the fight is expected to take place at the end of the year but a date and weight class “could not immediately be confirmed.”

Below is a statement issued to MMAJunkie.com:

“We’ve been talking to Roy and his people over a potential ‘Rampage’ vs. Roy fight for over seven months,” a representative from Jackson’s longtime team, Wolfslair MMA, told MMAjunkie.com. The rep requested anonymity due to the ongoing negotiations related to the matchup.

“If it happens, it would be an incredible fight,” the rep said. “Boxing and MMA have both been discussed, and (Bellator Chairman and CEO) Bjorn (Rebney) has been in these discussions every step of the way. I can’t say much more than that. We’ll see what happens.”

What are the odds of the video from TNA being Roy Jones?

At the rate things are going with TNA, I wouldn’t be surprised.

Poor Roy Jones, he’s went from distinguished world champion and one of the greatest fighters ever, to a journeyman boxer just looking for a paycheck. So many boxers end up this way hanging around, fighting guys half their age, all for the all mighty dollar, tarnishing their legacies, and in turn making far less talented fighters then they were in their prime, look like the next world champ, by beating an aging shell of a once great boxer. He’s lost the last 3 of his last 5 fights, to virtual nobodies outside of Bernard Hopkins,(another guy who wont hang it up) which doesn’t sound terrible till you consider he won his first 49. Hopefully the end is near so he can avoid the embarrassment, the tarnishing of his legacy, and future health problems down the road.

The difference between Roy Jones and B-hop is B-Hop is still winning fights in impressive fashion against top contenders. Once he can’t hang at the top he should hang them up but as long as he still has it and is still winning let him go. Hes making history and doing things that have not been done since Archie Moore.

Whenis Rampage going to start selling Energizer Batteries? I’ve got a newfound respect for this man!

This is just stupid. I love boxing but I would not pay ten cents for this. If he wants to box why fight someone who is old and finished? If this does happen I hope Roy Jones knocks him out that would be funny.

I am a big Rampage fan, but he should not want to box Roy Jones Jr. Jones Jr is a boxing machine. Even at his age he would destroy Rampage. Now MMA is a different story. If it was to be an MMA fight I’d be saying Jones Jr shouldn’t want to fight Rampage because he will get destroyed. Rampage would shoot in, take him down and just punish him. They are both really good at what they do. I just don’t think either of them are able to beat the other at their sport. If it’s going to happen it would be more interesting to see a boxing match. Because both at least have some boxing skills. I just don’t see an MMA fight being much of a contest.
