Rey Mysterio Suspended For 60 Days

Shares 0

WWE just sent out the following:

STAMFORD, Conn. – In accordance with its Talent Wellness Program, WWE has suspended Oscar Gutierrez (Rey Mysterio) for 60 days effective Thursday, April 26 for his second violation of the company's policy.

Rey Mysterio's first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy was announced on Thursday, August 27, 2009 but delayed until Wednesday, September 2, 2009 so the company could get the WWE Intercontinental Championship off him.

Mysterio has been out since August with a knee injury that required surgery to repair.  While he initially targeted Wrestlemania XXVIII as his return date, he had hoped to return some time next month.  Mysterio will not be eligible to return now until late June.

Thanks to Wrestling News World readers Shawn Daniels and David for sending us the WWE link.

Uh oh, spaghetti-o's. Perhaps he took stuff to try and get back quicker/make rehab less painful. It's sad to see him with a 2nd wellness strike. With a 3rd strike effectively being a 1 year suspension, it would more or less end his career if it happened.

    • Alex P

That's exactly what I thought when I first read this. I bet he took something to try to speed the recovery process…especially being that he's getting hurt A LOT more often nowadays. By the way isn't a 3rd strike a release from the company?

      • Abe

it is but you can be resigned a year later

      • Ger

a 3rd wellness strike is a release from the company, and a 'ban' from re-signing with the company for a year. In the case of big draws, who are likely to be re-signed asap (like Rey), it is effectively a 1year suspension.

      • Guy Landau

with a return only possible one year later. Considering who Mysterio is and how big of a star he is, Jaryd assumed he'd get signed back as soon as he was eligible. Which would make it, effectively, a 1 year suspension

    • Double reversing…

Clearly he is not being treated like Randy……he was on VACA!

      • James M>>>

how you get suspended on your recovery time off? That’s like getting fired on your day off, Craig! What’d you do Rey, steal some boxes? And you know dis, maaaaaaaannnnnnnn

  • Daarko

Perhaps it was some drug necessary for his treatment. But then again, WWE would know about that if it was the case.. STUPID, REY!!

    • Not really. Apparently, the wellness program doesn't even allow superstars to take something as simple as Advil! I could be wrong, so don't quote me on that. If that's the case, then their wellness program is pretty messes up.

      • James M>>>

I wouldn’t quote you on that even if you said … “Quote me on that”. Advil? Really, really,,,,,,, really?

  • Daniel Limass

    Painkillers maybe?

  • Dread

Rey's had a lot of problems with his knees and all. maybe a little too much on the painkillers or something. hopefully, its not a true drug problem or something

  • Dangerous Lee

    Face has been palmed.

  • micheal401

you cant suppend someone from wrestling if they havent offically return to the ring from injury this site full of crap and i dont by it until wwe post it on there site

    • Patrick_OToole

Plus you missed some punctuation and complete words all together. Well done!

    • Ben Dover

Its funny cuz he thinks is a credible news resource lol

    • TheLeaf
    • Justin Daniels — it's official. Last I checked, this site has broke far, far more correct stories than incorrect ones.

    • Richy

maybe you should do your homework before bashing a site for reporting the news to you because it is on the official WWE site. #doyourhomeworkbeforeyouopenyourmouth

    • Austin

      *Facepalm* How old are you?

    • mathew30
    • shinzen

Here is the proof you are needing I can't believe you have the ignorance to say that this site is full of crap. Richard does an amazing job providing all of us with great information. Hopefully you will learn what I mean and not judge something he posts because you need "evidence" when clearly it was right in front of you.

    • chris

Are you high this was a post from the wwe first not a crap post

    • GODSENT83

As long as you are under contract you are eligible for suspension. If think the site is crap why are you here???

    • XKonn247

Bet you didn’t say that about Evan Bourne

    • Daniel Limass

No wonder. This one right here must be a Rey-rey and Cena fan-boy

    • WNW Fan

Why'd you click on the story and read it then?

  • urnemystic

If it was necessary for his treatment he would have a doctors note and thus wouldnt have been suspended.

    • Denny

      Hopefully, that's the case'

      Kinda doubt it though.

  • I want Sin Cara vs Rey

    • mathew30

maybe rey can teach sin cara how not to botch every move and give a decent bloody match

  • Dave Barton

It was likely a pain pill or a steroid, either of which would be fine IF he presented WWE with the prescription(s) beforehand. iirc, that was the case the first time. And with him rehabbing an injury right now, I expect that’s the case. Regardless, its still his own fault for either using a controlled substance illegally, or for using a prescribed med without telling WWE.

  • Travis

This is a golden oppertunity for Sin Cara. Mysterio is not only injury prone, but if now he can't be trusted? I forsee a "future endeavor" headline soon.

  • H.M.

Wow 0-0 so basically we will not have seen Rey on TV for almost a year. I wonder what the story was…I won't even bother speculating like most. Just wish him the best.

  • kevin

    This sucks

  • Sander

Hmmm. Pain Killers or growing pills?

  • The Breaker

Does three strikes necessarily mean automatic termination of a superstar? If not, I wonder if Vince would give Mysterio a pass. Not saying he (or anyone) deserves one, but I he's been a top star for years in WWE and I wouldn't be shocked if they let him come back after a third.

In any case, it's a shame this happened. And Rey knows better than that.

Daniel Bryan has been doing great things on Smackdown, but they're still in need of main event faces. The only two constants have been Randy Orton and Sheamus for a while. I think they've kinda elevated Big Show to fill some of that void. Which is okay because he's a good worker for his size. But I'd rather see Mysterio in that spot because there are currently very few, if any, on the roster that can perform the way he does.

  • Aly

Damn… Was looking forward to his return…
Hears to hoping he comes back better then ever. Maybe a few more months of healing will do him even better!

  • CW

I don’t Understand why some superstars make the choice of using banned substances. They know they are going to be tested and will get caught. Why do it!!!! Idiots! I bet Rey will say it was given to him by his doctor to help with his recovery. Always seems to be the case. I wish someone would just stand up and say, ya I used a banned substance, and take it like a man

  • Jayhas

  • PainOfDemise

Ugh, I was looking forward to his return. Why did he have to go and ruin it.

  • Bigbdawg2003

Why is everyone defending him you dont think wwe new what meds he was taking to get better he got popped cause he’s a drug using midget can’t say I miss him at all good riddance get rid of him wwe

  • Christ 4 Life

oh no! Come back soon Rey!

  • "Rey Mysterio’s first violation of the WWE Wellness Policy was announced on Thursday, August 27, 2009 but delayed until Wednesday, September 2, 2009 so the company could get the WWE Intercontinental Championship off him.'

What? Dude, Big Show is the IC champion. As for Rey Mysterio being suspended. Well, does the WWE Talent Wellness Program forbid superstars from taking all forms of pain killers including Advil? And Mysterio is out of action anyway, so why was he suspended?!

  • Forget my last comment. I didn't read carefully.

  • #1 Awesome One

Come on Rey, that was sooooooooooooooooooooooooo STUPID! If he gets a third suspension, he might as well be fired from WWE. Let's just hope he is not THAT stupid.

FYI – Rey should have at least had a doctor's note, just like urnemystic had stated above.

  • Kelvin Maldonado

You would think these wrestlers would take the initiative to get prescriptions from their docs and have WWE's approval first before taking any medications. Maybe this is just me thinking logically

  • steve2

Who cares? He should just retire now. He wrestles for a few months and then re-injures his knees and is out for several months…

  • Monty

If its his knees he should get the same thing that live got done in Germany

  • BigMike

he is rehabbing a knee injury and they drug screen him? WTF? Of COURSE he is going to be on painkillers more than likely and even a good chance for steroids of some kind this looks like a reason to try and get rid of him

  • craig

time to job rey out clean to bryan and wade. make him tap out to bryan. get all you can out of him since he is injury prone AND doesnt care to follow the rules.

    • Wes

Are u stupid even after this suspension he will bring 2 times the money to wwe Bryan or Barrett could ever think of, and u don’t know squat if you think otherwise

  • Captain Booger

Rey Mysterio – for some reason they've continued to push this guy as a favorite for kids. As if the significantly tattoo-mamed carcass wasn't enough of a bad influence, now he's got ongoing drug issues to boot.
