Ring Ka King The Most-Watched Wrestling Program On The Planet?

GQ.com has a fascinating look at TNA’s Ring Ka King promotion and the untapped pro wrestling market in India. Without a doubt the most newsworthy item of the piece is that reports out of the country indicate the first episode of the series garnered 14,000,000 viewers. If true, that makes Ring Ka King the most-watched pro wrestling show on the planet, trumping everything… including all of WWE’s programming.

indian population is 1 billion so I’m sure a lot of indians tuned in

But TV ownership is no where near the same as it is in the US

Decided to give this Ring Ka King thing… too much rhyming there… anyway, decided to give it a look. Just watched them all in a row.

It almost brings a tear to my eye. It's just so darned cute!
I just want to cuddle it and pat it on the head and mess its ginger hair up and tell it it's doing a good job.

There's some decent in ring action from some of the guys, but there's been some pretty awful bits as well. I'm guessing some of the local talent haven't been wrestling long. The Indian fans seem to like it, and that's all that counts in the end I guess. Hope it works out for them.

Yeah that’s the first episode. What about the ones after that? Great number nonetheless.

It has a big viewership because India is a very populated country. It's as obvious as saying Chines is the most spoken language in the world.

India had 78% Cable TV penetration in 2009, expected to reach 90% by 2014. Simply speaking, there are more TVs in India than people in the US. The point is , every random show gets such numbers…it doesn't even have to be good to get 14 million viewers.

So that’s why Vince brought that useless piece of crap, khali back.

    • Blazeking

I'd rather see Jinder than Khali. Seriously.

  • H.M.

Can you blame honestly Vince for bringing Khali back into the limelight? This Ring Ka King deal is probably one of the most brilliant ideas TNA has had in years.

  • Kleck

Good job TNA, finally got the better of WWE in an area

I am from India and let me tell you – television viewership numbers in India are nowhere as accurate as they are in US. Even after accounting for all of Nielsen's deficiencies, I still think that if Nielsen is the movie Titanic, then Indian ratings are just some random failed movie. Its a world where channels with higher ratings will market them but will themselves turn around and say they are BS when they fall. Even advertisers use their own research to determine where to advertise rather than actually follow the ratings. So the point is, disregard the article…
