ROH's Wrestlemania Shows, Upcoming Workers & The Streak, Sin Cara Update, The Return Of ECW?

Why does Ring of Honor run shows in the same city at the same time as Wrestlemania? Is this something WWE allows?

Wrestlemania weekend brings tens of thousands of wrestling fans in from around the world - just take a look at the economic impact that has politicians lobbying for their city to get WWE's biggest event of the year. Ring of Honor runs shows on Wrestlemania weekend to take advantage of all the wrestling fans in the city. It's a great idea and is an added bonus for anyone looking to try out a WWE alternative. With that being said, WWE has nothing to do with the shows.

While I don't expect the streak to be ended, doesn't there appear to be an opportunity with Dolph Ziggler or Cody Rhodes? They're both up and coming main event talents that would benefit tremendously by beating The Undertaker.

I am high up on Dolph Ziggler and Cody Rhodes, however, neither is established enough to beat The Undertaker at Wrestlemania and end the streak. It's very complicated in picking an opponent for The Undertaker because if the decision is made to end the streak (which I don't think it will), it all comes down to who would be worth such a rub. If the streak isn't ended (which I expect it to remain intact), there needs to be an opponent that won't be damaged by a loss. The Undertaker is semi-retired and it wouldn't make sense to bring him back to crush an up and comer like Ziggler or Rhodes. He has to be booked against someone that a loss would not hurt them.

What is the status of Sin Cara?

Sin Cara suffered a torn ACL at Survivor Series in November and is projected to be out 6-9 months from the date of the injury. It's a tough injury and another bad break for someone that was originally planned to be a future main event star in WWE.

How would you feel if WWE brought back ECW as their "non-PG" show?

With all due respect, I would feel sick. WWE tried the ECW experiment and failed miserably. They took a brand that was still very recognizable by wrestling fans and watered it down to the point of irrelevancy. There are a lot of fans lobbying for WWE to end the PG era but I don't see it happening any time soon.

Would rather see a return of WCW Friday Night Nitro than ECW.

I'd like to see Dolph get a match with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania. His current "show off" gimmick would be perfect for it. What better way to show off then to do something no one else has been able to do? I think as long as he was booked to look threatening in the match (like he could win) a loss wouldn't hurt him that much if at all. I think a competitive match with the Undertaker at Wrestlemania even with a loss might give him a boost. A Dolph vs. Taker match would be entertaining and refreshing. While I liked Triple H. vs Taker last year I don't want to see it again. I want to see someone who hasn't faced Taker before get a shot not a rehash of an old feud.

    • Eiji

Are you serious? What has ziggler done that hasn't been done already? Mic skills are decent, but ring skills of billy gunn. He is not worthy of facing the undertaker at WM.

      • pjm5203

I think Ziggler is more than worthy and able to put on a great match with Taker at WM. His mic skills aren't the best but are improving. I'm also going to have to disagree with you on the in ring skills, I think Dolph is excellent in the ring. I think that putting him against the Undertaker would be the best choice for him right now if there not going to give him the strap soon.

      • Maze

I know Billy personally and it would be an honor to be compared to him in the ring. Billy Gunn is still very relevant and is a hell of a talent.

        • Eiji

I'm not knocking billy gunn's skills. I prefer Billy Gunn over ziggler. My point is that Ziggler is nothing new. Nothing innovative about him or most of the WWE roster.

      • Marq

A comparison to Billy Gunn’s in-ring skills is actually a favorable compliment. That guy was a heck of an athlete and performer in his prime.

    • Osisris

      Ziggles would die

  • Martyn Wright

Thanks for answering my question about ROH shows at WrestleMania weekend, always wanted to know.

    • Rob Bucks

      It was my question

      • Zach

Does it really matter? Whoever asked it should have already knew wwe has no control over other shows. They have no choice but to “allow” it.

    • Marq

That would be like asking if the NFL allows NBA games in the same city and weekend of the Super Bowl.

  • An0n

hate to say it, but you know im right, the only person the wwe creative would let win is cena…….the streak should remain..
lets have taker vs cole for sheer beatdown

  • jonathon212

i dont get what your saying about cody rhodes and dolph ziggler…..

rhodes lost to daniel bryan in a 3 minute unadvertised opening match on raw last week. the week before he lost to booker t again in an unadvertised 10 minute match in the opening match on raw. and these are just 2 matches off the top of my head

ziggler loses so much and when he actually wins its rarely clean like his 2 wins against punk which were both won through help by laurinaitis. ziggler in the past month has lost to zack ryder on 3 different occasions besides for his loss to orton.

so that brings me to my point…..the fact that rhodes can lose to bryan and booker t in unadvertised opening raw matches, or that ziggler could be made to look like a fool by ryder by losing to him on 3 separate occasions that is called crushing an up and comer , yet youre worried about them going and getting the biggest rub of their career by going against the undertaker ???

just by being in the match with him at wrestlemania and lasting 20 minutes even if they lose ( which they should ),wold boost their credibility more than anything . there is no shame to losing to undertaker at wrestlemania. at this point its just an honor to have a match with him .

if rhodes or ziggler went out and put on a 4 star match with the undertaker and still lose , youre telling me that wouldnt benefit them ??? especially with the way wwe books their young talent for the most part, this is the biggest rub either of them can have at this point in their careers by far.

so with all due respect, i completely disagree with your staement that losing to undertaker at wrestlemania would " crush " either rhodes or ziggler . personally, i would look at them as bigger stars just for being in the match and im sure most people would as well.

i would even argue, that for both men its better for them to be in that high profile match and lose, then to be in the midcard or lowcard against an opponent at wrestlemania and win. they would have more focus put on them through the buildup, and by putting on a good match against the undertaker, would boost their credibility more than anything else in this careers so far

    • Ellen

You're absolutely right. There's no shame for anyone losing to The Unidertaker. He has been truly phenomenal throughout his career. He's deserving of all the kudos he receives, and deserves the Phenom moniker.

    • thatguy

i agree with this completely, for some reason on this site they feel that a loss to the take would devalue a wrestler. Hey it's wresltemaina, Zigger is able to put on one hell of a match which regardless of him losing would boost him up soooo much. Be a little more realistic about the situation and stop thinking only top names should take on taker, which top names have nothing to gain from the loss. But for Ziggler/Rhodes a loss would be a huge gain on that stage

  • jordan

I was looking forward seeing sin cara in the royal rumble

  • liam_fan

it definitely wouldn't crush their respective pushes. Just look at what happened to a young up-and-comer called Randy Orton at WM 21. Although he lost the match, people took notice of his performance and now he is 1 of the faces of the company!

  • Frenchfry

saying that ziggler or rhodes or ANYONE would be crushed because they lost at WM to the Undertaker in a good match is just ridiculous, regardless of the outcome such a match could do nothing but help them

  • @RatedMKD

If I ever wind up making it to a WrestleMania event one year and ROH happen to be running a show or two in the city that weekend, I'm absolutely 100% attending it. It's not enough of a draw to lure me over there by itself, but if I happen to be around for it, they're totally getting my ticket money!

    • Zach

They always have shows on ‘mania weekend. It’s not an “if” lol.

      • @RatedMKD

Well, there's the question of whether or not ROH will still be around! Don't get me wrong, I'm not hoping that they'll go under, I really hope they keep going for many, many years to come, but I don't know when I'll be able to afford to head over to 'Mania.

        • Zach

Haha that is true. I’ve wanted to go forwver, and i’m sure if I ever got the chance, it would be like ten to twenty years from now. I bet the wrestling landscape will be largely different than what it is now.

  • BIGRAN77741

Who owns the tapes off tommy rich & buzz sawyer feud they was off the hook.

  • Ricardo

I personally think it would be Wade Barrett, Kevin Nash or Kane (Again hopefully not, the same goes for Triple H) lol

  • bulletproofmind

I still think it would be best, if Undertaker's match at mania was a triple threat match, that involves Taker, an established star like Triple H AND an up and comer like Rhodes, Ziggler, Barrett ect. that way the match could be carried on the up and comer could some credibility and the vet takes the loss. its a win-win all the way around, taker keeps his streak, the vet isnt hurt by the loss and the up and comer can brag that Taker never beat him. the up and comer could go on in a mini fued with either taker or the vet and then get the rub.

    • Zach

That is a pretty good suggestion actually, I hadn’t ever considered that.

  • Samuel

As much as i hate to say it, I could easily see VKM putting himself against Taker at WM.. While I don't see him beating Undertaker, there isn't a lot of options available.. Kane and HHH are the obvious options, but i don't think the majority of WWE fans could handle a 3rd match between them.

  • Robert

Brock Lesnar vs Bobby Lashley vs Undertaker in a tripple elimination match at Mania.. ECW would only be great if they brought back ECW Wrestlers and made it Rated R instead of lame PG rateing!!!!

    • robert

only way ecw would work is heyman had full creative control no checking with vince all new stars and not to you but ziggler sucks i would'nt watch a ppv with ziggler as main event just like the miz, these new guys suck daniel bryan is a main eventer in that you have to put it down at ppv in the ring miz sucks ziggs looks stupid with all the flailing when he does moves and cody is just boring boring

  • Moe

CM Punk or Jericho would be good opponents for Undertaker in my opinion.

  • Jeremie Mickens

Sheamus Should Face Undertaker at Wrestlemania 28 or Wade Barrett. ECW should come back to bring back extreme rules with fire and barbed wire but it should be in PG 13
