Ronda Rousey’s Loss Has WWE Implications

Shares 0

By far the biggest story of the day is Ronda Rousey getting knocked out by Holly Holm at UFC 193 on Saturday. This has WWE implications as Triple H in particular has been pushing hard to get the former UFC women’s bantamweight champion to at least appear at Wrestlemania 32 next year. WWE has had to deal directly with UFC about Rousey appearing and they haven’t been receptive to an appearance. Complicating matters further is Rousey’s busy moving filming schedule that could keep her out of the show anyway.

The idea from within WWE has been to followup on the surprise cameo she made at the show this year alongside The Rock. Rock is another story as he’s now being considering unlikely for Wrestlemania.

Rousey’s loss doesn’t necessarily kill off the chance she appears again for WWE as she’s still a top name in UFC and they’ll most definitely look to sell a rematch against Holm. An appearance could be used to help co-promote such a fight. First things first though and Rousey will look to regroup after one of the biggest upsets in history.

I will say that I don’t believe anyone in WWE thought Rousey was going to lose last night and the people I speak with on a regular basis were just as surprised as the rest of the world.

I believe she may have been Buster Douglas’d right out of WM32.

Well, in that particular instance, the promotion was on the world boxing champion appearing (at an episode of The Main Event, as opposed to a PPV) while, in Rousey’s case, the focus has been on her specifically. I doubt WWE would try to replace Rousey with Holly Holm.

But, there I go trying to apply logic to WWE’s potential decision making. Silly me.

My only hope is that this knocks her out of the running to play Captain Marvel. The last thing Marvel needs is for her popularity to persuade them into casting her as the most important female superhero they have.

She is a huge nerd so I don’t see it as a problem. They could do worse.

No, I don’t think they could. She can’t act, she doesn’t have the right look, she can’t act. Did I mention she’s a ****** actor?
