Ryback did an interview with NorthJersey.com where he said he believes his ankle injury was the best thing that was ever going to happen to him because it was his way to lose the Skip Sheffield gimmick.
“When the [ankle] injury happened, I told myself ‘this was the best thing that was ever going to happen to me because deep down in my heart I knew I couldn’t do what I needed to do with the name ‘Skip Sheffield’,” said Reeves.
“It’s a dopey name. It’s not a name that the general public will get behind, no matter what I’m doing out there. So being away for a year and a half and coming back under my own terms was a blessing in disguise, and the best thing that ever could have happened to me,”
