-The Miami Herald has a new interview with Sgt. Slaughter on their official website. Among other topics, he discusses a time in which he grappled with a young Ric Flair in an amateur wrestling match before they entered the professional wrestling business. Slaughter elaborates in the following excerpt:

“In school, I always got the victory, always. That’s how I got into professional wrestling. I went to watch a pro wrestling training camp, and he was going through the training with Ken Patera and a bunch of the local wrestlers there. So when I saw him training, I said, ‘H—, if he can do this, I sure can. I beat him all the time. It worked out good for me.”
