Signs At Televised WWE Events, Dean Ambrose Update, Commercials & Ratings, Sheamus A Top Guy

What is the policy for signs in the crowd at televised WWE events?

What signs get in and what signs do not start with the live event staff at each venue. Some venues have a reputation for being strict while others are more lenient. WWE has their producers and cameramen monitor the signs that are getting on television and will remove any that are even questionable. Signs that are certain to get taken are those that advertise something, include profanity or reference a worker in which WWE has recently fired or wants nothing to do with.

What’s the latest update on Dean Ambrose?

Dean Ambrose worked a dark match at the latest WWE NXT tapings at the campus of Full Sail University. We’e heard for several weeks his debut on the main WWE roster is seemingly imminent. Click here for full NXT taping results.

I understand WWE is in business to make money and the more commercials on their programming, the more money. However, I feel the commercials have became excessive and are drawing viewers away. What are your thoughts?

There is a direct correlation between the amount of commercials and the number of viewers that watch WWE programming. Remember the commercial-free episode of WWE Raw from 2009? The show did an outstanding rating and showed company officials how they could benefit from product-placement type advertising and ditching commercials outright. However, back to today and the quality of ads for WWE programming isn’t as good due to the demographic so they have to make up for the lack of quality with quantity. We experience the same thing with this website.  The biggest reason Vince McMahon decided to expand Raw to three hours is the extra hour of revenue from commercials.

Why is Sheamus not considered a top WWE talent. You always list John Cena, Randy Orton and CM Punk.

Sheamus is a current main event star  in WWE but he’s not yet “the guy” or one of “the guys.” WWE officials, specifically Triple H, see Sheamus as one of the future “faces of the company” but he’s not there yet. Cena, Orton and Punk are going to work in the main event no matter what because they are the top draws.

The excessive amount of commercial advertising in WWE programming and the excessive recap segments are the reasons why I watch WWE programming over the internet by 'rather dubious' means rather than watch legitimate broadcasts.
Skip the nonsense, watch it when I want, where I want. Simples, as it were. If Corporate's going to play silly games like that, I'm playing on my terms.

    • Kevin

I've been turning the channel everytime they recap what I've already seen. I watched Smackdown Friday night, and turned the channel everytime they recapped Raw. Out of the 2 hours the show was on, I only kept it on SyFy for about an hour; the other hour was spent switching to another channel to avoid watching what I'd already seen on Raw.

    • the arbiter

Ditto, asides from I record from TV and then just fast forward through all the recaps and ads. I dont know how anyone could watch RAW "live" these days. I save myself 60-90 minutes of garbage time per episode by not watching live.

      • Ken

The way I figure it, if I didn't see what happened last week then it's tough poop for me. I should have been watching last week. Same goes for everyone else. If it's ratings and so on they want they'd draw more viewers by scrapping the recaps and shameless "We have x-thousand Twitter followers, more than them and them and them" self-promotion, and runnning more matches and such.

You don't see any other 'long running prime time weekly episodic television show' (or whatever it is they call it these days) spending 40% or so of their run time covering the previous episode. At most it's like a minute or two of "Previously on INSERT SHOW TITLE HERE", before the opening credits.

Personally in this day and age where everything's available anonymously over the net, if you put a little thought into accessing it, I can't see why anyone watches Raw live.
To my mind the best way for the WWE to get ratings for Raw, and the associated ad revenue, etc, etc, is to make Raw as immediately must-see as possible for all the Twitter geeks out there, which means interactivity and unpredictability (i.e. the Raw Active thing, multiplied by 5, with legitimately determined choices between truly different options – Streetfight, No DQ, and No Holds Barred won't cut it).
It means making the show so compelling and so interesting and exciting and complex that viewers want, nay NEED, to discuss it in real time during the broadcast.
What they do at the moment just won't cut it in the long run these days. Heading in the right direction in some small, slight ways, perhaps, but nowhere near enough.

I’ve got a really bad feeling Ambrose’s debut will fall flat unless they throw him into something big straight away. Richard have you not heard anything specific about his debut or is it all hush hush?

  • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

I almost got a “cena sucks” sign taken from me at a raw show a few years back. But then the security guard found out we had the same name, so he let me bring it in.

  • Drake

When I went to a Smackdown show, they had people checking signs at the door. I asked them why they were doing that, and he said that they were making sure no Chris Benoit signs got through. (Something with the arena or the owner of the arena having some connection to Benoit. Not sure.)

  • jay

Richard where has mason ryan gone???

  • PikaPal4ever

Sheamus is 34, so he's hardly the future. Even dolph is 32 so they need to start pushing him more. I really don't think sheamus deserves to be a top guy in the wwe. He is boring on the mic, decent in the ring but can't sell a move to save his life. Just like he was supposed to have an "arm injury" going into the last pay-per-view, and he showed no signs of getting "injured". I know there's no integrity left in the wwe, but if you're going to be the world heavyweight champion, at least remember the basics. The faster ziggler wins the title, the better.

I can not access this site "safely" over my breaks at work any more since some ads, especially over the past several weeks, have become very racy/almost nude. I don't want to lose my job.

    • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

      Then get back to work!

      • Shy Guest

I accessed the site over my breaks, not during work time. We are not permitted to work during our breaks.

        • http://www.12ozprophet.com Dangerous Lee

Then maybe you should find something else to do on your break if going to wrestling websites will get you fired…

          • Shy Guest

This is the only wrestling website I felt safe to visit, until the racy/almost nude ads started to appear. I also do other things too over my break, but thanks for the suggestions.

    • Kevin

Here's an idea: use your work computer for DOING YOUR WORK! Save the personal emails for YOUR HOME! I hope I made that simple enough for you to understand. If you need any clarification, let me know. By the way, clarification means to make clear.

      • Shy Guest

We are permitted to use the work computer for personal use during breaks. Both work and personal use are monitored.

Last year I had to “innapropriat” signs at both raw and smackdown & they didn’t take them. One was “Orton makes me randy” and the other was “put your zig in my zag” both perverted. I was left alone, both randy and Dolph Acknowledged them however,

  • AnacondaVise

The whole dang show is a commercial for Twitter,Facebook and Tout.

  • big Al

I don't care how many mid carders or jobbers he faces,Ryback isSOOOO boring. Feed him some real talent PLEASE!!!!!!

  • Bishop

I had my “Run-Austin-Run” sign taken away from me as I was entering Raw. This was during the time Austin took his ball and went home as he didn’t want to put Eddie Guerrero over. Or was it Brock Lesnar? He has the domestic dispute with Deborah and was on the run from the law I believe…hence the sign.

That Raw was awesome. It was the lead up to the KoTR PPV and it had Brock vs Booker T, nWo with HBK was there and I think it was the event that had Undertaker vs the Hardy’s…or maybe just Jeff in the ladder match for the title. It was in Oakland in 2002, awesome show

  • Ryan.

Can’t wait for Dean Ambrose to finally debut.

  • John

Raw was great last night. I am a Paul Heyman guy and hope his future stable of heels includes Dean Ambrose. WWE needs some heels to be strong again, not always jobbing to Super Sheamus

  • http://wwe Maz

R-truth was the best thing going early last year but what the hell happened??
His heel promo’s with Cena was entertaining
