Sin Cara’s WWE Return, Why The Rock Can’t Go Over, How WWE Won The War, Being Entertained With Insider Info

What happened to Sin Cara?

Sin Cara suffered a torn ACL at WWE Survivor Series last November and isn’t expected back until this summer. I know some readers have speculated him being involved at Wrestlemania, however, it doesn’t seem likely given the initial 6-9 month recovery timetable for his injury.

With The Rock vs. John Cena at Wrestlemania XXVIII, what would be the point of Rock going over Cena if he’s not staying in WWE to wrestle?

I have talked about the finish of The Rock vs. John Cena at Wrestlemania a lot and I expect to talk about it a lot more as we continue on the road to the pay-per-view. In yesterday’s WNW Premium Mailbag, I echoed your thoughts in The Rock can’t go over clean if he’s not going to remain with WWE. The match finish is going to be very tricky to book and a lot of people are hopeful there will be some type of character progression for John Cena.

My question is simple.. What if the NWA and WCW didn’t split and if the NWO never happened.. Do you think WWE would even be around?

The “what if” game provides endless debates and answers, however, you need to remember things were not good in the early days of WCW. It wasn’t until Eric Bischoff came into WCW and launched Monday Nitro that they became a legitimate threat to the business of WWE and Vince McMahon. Nitro, along with the nWo angle, nearly put WWE out of business so I don’t quite understand why you believe the nWo helped WWE. The nWo hurt WWE and if it were not for the success of DeGeneration X, Steve Austin and The Rock, things could be vastly different today.

Do you miss the excitement of surprises in wrestling? What I mean is since you know beforehand exclusive knowledge from various sources do you miss NOT knowing what will happen next and the surprise of the event?

Knowing what is going to happen can alter one’s perception of the product, which is why I have to be careful the way in which I interpret programming. The easiest way to do this is by asking a very simple question – am I being entertained? If the answer is yes, I am high up on the match/angle. If the answer is no, I’ll express my displeasure. There are portions of smarks that are impossible to please because their expectations are unattainable due to preconceived mindsets of what they think should happen. One of the hardest things about being an insider is keeping it simple and not over-analyzing based on information obtained beforehand.

That answer to the last question was… EYE-ROLLINGLY BAD.

    • Dale

Roll with it and give it a chance–you don't know how good it could be!

      • Maze

Everyone knows wrestling is a work and its predetermined but what you do is go to an event and suspend disbelief and have fun. You live vi-curiously through the wrestlers, thats what its about.

    • kbunyon

Which is exactly what Richard was saying. Some people are impossible to please.

I totally agree with you about the Rock/Cena match it doesn't make any sense for Rock to go over if he isn't gonna stay with WWE after Wrestlemania. The only way I can see Rock going over is if Cena and Rock have some more matches later this year and possibly a rematch at Wrestlemania 29 but I doubt that will happen this will be just like Hogan/Rock so I expect Cena to go over.

  • Bertie

Rock has to win its in Miami!! I reckon there will be a riot if not!! Cena is a joke his character is stale and although he’s slightly more edgy and has stepped up his game, he’s still yawn…. Boring!! Embrace the hate cena

    • Jaryd

      mark :-D

  • Khalkaroth

You express your displeasure if you are not entertained, yes, but then WWE just gonna turn it into popularity….. see John Cena

  • Bruce

Do you smell what the rock is cooking!! huh-boots to asses-then its time to go make another movie Tooth Fairy 6!!

  • Bertie

Attitude era was the defining era!! Wwe was at its best back then, if it wasn’t for the rock coming back then we wouldn’t have upping his game and deviating slightly from the super cena yawnfest!

  • Bertie

That’s meant to read cena upping his game…. Apologies

  • Bertie

That’s meant to read cena upping his game.Apologies

  • Super Stinky Feet

WM looks boring. Too many Attitude Era stars!!

    • Razmos01

And compared to PG era the Attitude Era is boring??? Think you need to wake up and have your cornflakes!!

    • Smileyyy128

You can never haveee too much Attitide Era:)

  • Terry

I think what he’s getting at , and I’m in the same boat , is what happend to the “youth movement” ?

Attitude era was great but if we don’t move to the future then we will all be the guy that is 50 and can’t stop talking about how “in high school I was ten foot tall and bullet proof” .

    • bettysteve

      AKA. hulk hogan?

  • sean

The last question was a good one how can you enjoy wrestling when you know the angles before hand. I personally forget everything I know about the pro-wrestling being fake and I let myself be caught up in the action even jumping out of my seat or cringing at moves that would be painfull. Childish maybe but i watch wwe every week and every week I am entertained quite simply because I relax and forget everything I read here or know about pro wrestling

    • Adam

Perhaps the feeling you get from watching WWE syndicated shows could be like watching you favourite show or movie repetetively and never getting bored of it.

      • sean

Thats exactly how it is for me

  • Clint

I expect a rocky finish in the cena and rock match, I believe the miz will interfere and if the rumor are trueof the rock coming back at next year, it will set up a triple threat match, with cena rock and miz

  • Jaryd

I didn't really understand the what if question either as it seemed to offer 2 quite unrelated incidents not happening as a reason for WWE not to be around.

However, in a funny kind of way, you could say NWO helped WWE in the long-run because the booking staff of WCW milked it so bad that it made programming incredibly stale and whilst obviously not the only contributory factor for the company's demise (you could write an encyclopedia on the things that caused that) it ended up being the old case of too much of a good thing.

  • stoney

The Overuse of the NWO also played a part in the death of WCW

  • Bertie

The attitude era was exactly that, an Era, the thing is the PG era fruity pebbles cena era sucks balls! They have to go back to the attitude era and start again, cm punk is a breath of fresh air, u need a few main superstars built up to make it believable and super cena has stopped that. In attitude era u had hhh, Austin, foley, taker, rock, Jericho, big show and Kane all as believable main event players, now u get people built up and dropped to easy it’s hard to keep up! Swagger, John Morrison, Christian, kofi, r truth all only slightly pushed and it’s like wwe lost the belief and they are stopped, only really an sheamus got a decent push and S

  • Calebhicks

We need the attitude era back

    • Jeremy

Tell that to TNA, the only reason the WWE choose to go PG is that there are no real competition to their dominance so now all they do is just offering mediocre matches and bad storylines. If only TNA could be a threat to the WWE (like what WCW once did) then we could see an Attitude era again in WWE.

  • ceedot

The question should be; Why should John Cena win ANOTHER match clean at a PPV? Or never get pinned clean?

  • Chris

” the nWo angle, nearly put WWE out of business so I don’t quite understand why you believe the nWo helped WWE. The nWo hurt WWE and if it were not for the success of DeGeneration X, Steve Austin and The Rock, things could be vastly different today.”

Perhaps THAT is the point? If DX, Rock and Austin came as a response to NWO, no NWO means no DX, Rock or Austin. With none of those, would WWE still be around?

  • WWE NERD

That stinks that Sin Cara can't be at WrestleMania28,I'm not ordering it,unless Rey Mysterio will be at WrestleMania28.

  • Crazy Lucha Girl

I agree with the Cena Rock thing. The Rock should stay in WWE. Also, can’t wait for Sin Cara to come back in June/July!
