Sean Hopkins is Wrestling News World’s regular Pay-Per-View coverage writer. After graduating from Longwood University in Farmville, Virginia, Sean married his wife, Kelly, and moved to the Blue Ridge Mountains in Virginia. He currently works at a local Community Services Board, helping maintain the records of the transportation department.
Sean got his start watching wrestling at an early age as he was born into a family with an 8-year old Bret Hart fanatic of a sister. This allowed Sean to learn at an early age what true great wrestling can really be. He remembers watching the Bret Hart/Shawn Michaels Iron-Man match at WrestleMania 12 and finding himself in awe at two mat technicians. Growing up before and during the Attitude Era, along with a thirst to seek out past eras’ great matches, Sean has an impressive scope of wrestling footage, and is constantly adding to his collection.
Sean’s start with Wrestling News World came with the beginning of Ring of Honor’s HDNet program, as the writer of WNW’s Blog of Honor. This combined Sean’s love of Independent wrestling and writing. During the year and a half that Sean worked as the ROH blogger, he also picked up live Pay-Per-View coverage, and coverage of TNA’s short lived live stints on Monday nights. Eventually he transitioned over to heading up Pay Per View coverage.
Sean’s current favorite wrestling promotions are all what would be considered to be “indies”. Pro Wrestling Guerrilla is his favorite, followed closely by Ring of Honor and Chikara. For all the people out there who aren’t sold on indie wrestling, Sean points to three DVD’s, PWG’s Guerre Sans Frontieres, and Seven, and ROH’s Death Before Dishonor VIII. All three are fairly recent examples of why the independents are a lot of fun to watch. As a long time fan, Sean thinks it’s a lot more fun to watch people like Bryan Danielson and CM Punk when you’ve seen the progression of their entire career, not just the WWE portion.
Outside of wrestling, Sean enjoys reading, going to concerts, and writing for pleasure. He also enjoys spending time with his wife, and their dog, in their house in the mountains.
