The Smackdown Breakdown: Cocoa Butter, Spray Tan & Hair Gel!

Hello WNW people, Mitch “Big M” Adams here welcoming you to another edition of the Smackdown Breakdown. I’m not one to beat around the bush as you know, so let's just get stuck into what happened on Smackdown this week shall we?

Quick side notes: I’m going to try to make Breakdown a bit shorter and snappier from now on. Please let me know what you think of the changes! If you like them, I’ll keep writing the Breakdown this way. If you don’t like the changes, I’ll go back to writing a more detailed Breakdown.

Opening Segment: Shane, Styles, Miz & Cena > A
I’ve always enjoyed the elimination chamber gimmick! And I was very excited to hear Shane announce the Pay-Per-Views return next month. AJ and Miz's mic work was very solid here, and Cena only opening his mouth to egg on either AJ or Miz after each received an epic burn from the other was rather funny. All of this was done to set up one of the rarest things in WWE! A heel vs heel match. Something I wish we’d see more of in today's WWE.

Backstage Segment: Shane & Ambrose > B+
Dean was hilarious describing all the things the IC Title belt smells of after being in Miz’s possession for so long. Seriously, though, those belts must smell a bit funky after being around the waists of multiple oiled and sweaty men for a few years!

AJ Styles vs The Miz > B+
A surprisingly good match all things considered! The Miz and Styles seem to have very good chemistry in the ring. Sadly this match was cut short due to AJ shoving Miz into Cena on commentary which resulted in Cena going “Super” on both their arses.
Winner: Miz By DQ I Think.

Total Divas Garbage On Smackdown: Nikki Bella & Natalya > F
Another segment where the most underrated female worker in WWE (Natalya) has to work a regressive Diva-type of storyline to make the most overrated female worker (Nikki) look like she still belongs in today’s era of amazing Women’s Wrestling. F all day long!!!

Backstage Promo: Alexa Bliss > A
Short, sweet and to the point! Alexa’s intensity there just got me more pumped for the cage match main event.

Dean Ambrose vs Randy Orton > C
This match wasn’t as good as you’d think it would have been honestly. Maybe Dean and Randy just have no chemistry I don’t know, but this was a big disappointment in my opinion.
Winner: Dean Ambrose

Post Match Shenanigans > F
Am I the only one tired of this storyline? We all know what the deal is! Orion infiltrated the Wyatt Family to break them apart from the inside. We can all see it coming a mile away, so just pull the bloody trigger already.

Backstage Promo: Becky Lynch > A
Once again, short, sweet and to the point promo that sells the cage match main event even further still. I love Becky Lynch on the mic (Kevin Dunn is an idiot).

The Kings Court: Jerry Lawler & Dolph Ziggler > B
Ziggler to my shock and awe looked like quite the impressive heel here. But when you have one of the industries best talkers in Jerry Lawler trying to get the crowd to hate you, you're bound to look like a dirty heel.

But I was a little turned off by WWE referencing King’s heart attack, and having Ziggler say he had something to do with it. For those who may not know, it has been speculated that Ziggler’s multiple elbow drop spots performed on King that night may have had something to do with his heart attack. Personally, I don’t believe that is the case and poor Ziggy (who probably felt awful about working a match with King minutes before his heart attack at the time) is now using it to get cheap heat.

The Superkick to King’s chest for added effect did work well though I have to admit. JBL leaving the commentary table to check on King also worked quite well really. I know I’m hard on poor old Ziggy, but I still don’t see him rising above glorified jobber status. Even with the halfway decent heel push, he is getting right now.

Steel Cage Match For The Smackdown Women’s Championship: Alexa Bliss (c) vs Becky Lynch > B & F

Ok, so you will never hear me complain about this match. Becky and Alexa are simply not capable of putting on a bad match together. Could it have been a little better? Maybe! But personally, I think they did a great job.

However, the finish of this match was one of the worst things I have ever seen! Everyone on WNW’s Facebook group and most on Smackdown’s open thread were hoping that Mickie James would not be revealed as “La Luchadora.” Firstly because it would be an insulting way for one of the true greats in Women’s Wrestling to make her return to WWE’s main roster. And secondly, it would be terrible “Diva” type booking to end the Becky/Alexa feud which has been a true highlight of Smackdown for months now.

But this being WWE, that is exactly what happened to all our chagrins. The only saving grace (if there is one) is that Mickie has seemingly been aligned with Alexa for the foreseeable future. Something that I will admit to being curious to see more of in the coming weeks.
Winner & Still Champion: Alexa Bliss

Overall Grade: B
Despite the horrible ending to the main event, a solid Smackdown was had this week. But I am afraid I must begrudgingly say Raw was the better show this week. But only just!!!

On the open thread all I saw was people hoping Mickie was under the mask, hoping for her return. Not sure what you’re reading lol

The opening was the best, Miz and AJ facing off. I’m glad WWE is inserting Miz into the title picture, he is one of the best heels in WWE right now.

I would have loved for Mickie to have been the one to attack Nikki but instead they started this awful feud between her and Nattie, it has flop written all over it. Mickie’s return while not what I wanted to see, it is still one that holds potential. I am intrigued by her partnership with Alexa and her feud with Becky should be good!
