Smackdown In Sin City, Mark Henry’s Promo One For The Ages

Smackdown in Sin City

WWE has announced they’ll tape Friday Night Smackdown from the Thomas & Mack Center on August 27, 2013 in Las Vegas, Nevada.

Mark Henry’s Promo One for the Ages

Mark Henry’s “retirement” promo has received high praise since it aired on this week’s Monday Night Raw, none higher from that of Jim Ross. Below is an excerpt from his latest blog entry:

The Mark Henry ‘retirement’ segment was Monday Night RAW gold and will go down in history as one of the all time, great RAW moments as far as I’m concerned. I’ve see a few in my time for the record. The TV viewer’s perception of any storyline or performance is dependent solely on the execution by the talent. Great execution can overcome mediocre material and great execution can make good material great and great creative unforgettable.

Mark Henry’s performance Monday night will be remembered for years and was, without question, Mark’s finest hour since we signed him in 1995.

I Knew it was a step up/fake, with 3 reasons.#1, when I saw the Prime Time
Players, “fake crying”, I started to get question the whole thing. #2 when he came
out and placed his boots on the entrance stage, I knew he was going to do a
promo, when a wrester retires, he puts his boots in the ring. #3 when he asked
John Cena to stay, that’s when I knew 100% it would be fake, I mean come on, we
have seen so many people retire, they want the spot light on them only, why
would he want Cena to stay, and he even stayed through the whole thing that made
it to much of a skit for me.

I knew it was fake because WWE would never let Mark Henry have a retirement speech!! He is not a big enough star for that!!

    • Danny_Boy

Bullshit! You didn’t know shit. It’s easy to run your mouth after the fact and say it was fake. I didn’t see you in the RAW chat saying it was fake before everything went down.

Wow. Just wow. Guess this puts it right up there with The Pipebomb Promo, right?

    • Jacob

Easily better then the pipebomb. Henry’s acting was amazing

  • Jack

Just an amazing performance from Henry. JR is right. I’m a pretty cynical fan and doubted it was real. But when he broke down after mentioning his daughter, he got me. Better than most acting on TV right now.

He had me fooled! Loved it.

  • ComeOn!

Congratulations to all of you who “knew” it was fake. Pat yourselves on the back a little more. Obviously as long time wrestling fans we have learned to be skeptical about the authenticity of segments, but come on! Mark Henry went out there and cut one of the most believable retirement speeches of all time! He even cried. Those who claim they “knew” for sure it was a work had to of questioned themselves at some point. If you didn’t “, than why are you even watching? Live in the moment and enjoy.

Mark Henry’s retirement promo from this past Monday > CM Punk’s pipe bomo promo from a couple years ago.

I had recorded RAW and looked after I knew he was doing a promo, but even then I still believed that he would retire.
