WWE Smackdown (Airing on SyFy):

* Michael Cole & Alex Riley are on commentary.

* Alberto Del Rio opens the show with a promo regarding his selection of his SummerSlam opponent. He criticizes John Cena for picking Daniel Bryan, and announces that he has selected Ricardo Rodriguez as his opponent. Vickie Guerrero interrupts and overrules Del Rio's decision. Instead, she makes a triple threat No. 1 Contender match tonight: Rob Van Dam vs. Christian vs. Randy Orton. The winner will face Del Rio at SummerSlam.

* CM Punk b. Fandango w/ Summer Rae by submission with the Anaconda Vise.

* Backstage, a Rob Van Dam interview is interrupted by Christian and Randy Orton. All three men assert that they will win the match tonight, and Orton suggested that he could be both WWE Champion and World Heavyweight Champion.

* AJ Lee b. Kaitlyn by submission to retain the Divas Championship. Layla was ringside for the match and turned on Kaitlyn at the end of the match before leaving the ringside area with AJ.

* A video package airs for the live crowd celebrating "Booker T Day" in Houston. Afterward, Booker T comes out and addresses the crowd.

* Christian b. Rob Van Dam & Randy Orton to become the No. 1 Contender for the World Heavyweight Championship. Christian rolled up Orton for the win. After the match, RVD and Orton shook Christian's hand. Alberto Del Rio ran out and attacked Christian to end the show.

i hope RVD wins that triple threat number 2 contenders match

  • Ht

    • Jon Harris

      no RVD

      • Jem

Yeah give RVD a title shot which he has barely earned and do a Jericho an leave again

        • Jon Harris

RVD should be around for while

  • John

Randy Orton shouldn’t be in the number one contenders match he already has a WWE Title shot…wish he would just go away!!

    • Jon Harris

    • Justin Lal

At least Orton is not disregarding the WHC by acting he’s too good for it. Orton having the MITB contract for the WWE and expressing desire to be the WHC is a great thing. Is it not?????????????

    • Ben

While I certainly agree with you about wishing Orton would go away, he basically put over the WHC by saying he wants to win both world titles and being involved in the #1 contender’s match, not to mention the fact that him taking the loss boosts Christian and protects RVD from losing.

    • Jason

To remind u it doesnt matter if randy has this so called “WWE title shot” Compared to RVD and Christian Randy Orton was the only one to “PIN” and/or “BEAT” the world heavyweight champion, and last i checked for the past 20+ years a pin on a champion regardless puts u in contention.

      • Matt

Christian beat Del Rio on the raw taping, genius.

        • Jason

Dude, really? trying to put me down with making a point here? Yo i skipped out on the raw taping my mistake but since smackdown was broadcasted and orton was the FIRST to beat Del Rio, the point i was making was that so what if he was MITB for the wwe title. he beat the champion it puts him in contention. Or did you miss out on this said point?

  • I am hoping for a Layla heel turn she is over due for one!

    • Jon Harris

      theres your layla heel turn

  • Elizabeth

Yeah, Let’s give RVD a title shot since he’s only been back w/ the company for 2-3 weeks now. Really hope Christian wins.

  • HT

    Yes! CHRISTIAN WINS!!! Great choice

  • Justin Lal

I’m actually happy they put Orton in a #1 Contender’s match for the WHC. Even with holding the WWE MITB Briefcase it shows he’s not too good for the WHC. Orton taking the loss is not a big deal at all. Also, the WHC gets much needed credibility by Orton acknowledging his desire to be both WWE and World Heavyweight Champion.

  • Justin Lal

With Del Rio having a real broken rub it’s possible Christian will win the title at Summerslam. I can honestly see Orton (WWE Champion) vs. Christian (WHC) at Night of Champions where the App Vote decides who defends the title. That will be a great booking move.

    • Nick K

That would be poor booking as the ppv is advertised as having all titles on the line. Also most fans realize that whichever title is on the line will be retained which would make the match predictable and hurt the buy rate.

  • Xavier

Really glad Christian picked up the win here.He was easily the right choice in this match, Orton obviously doesn’t need this win and RVD isn’t deserving. I’m 99% certain he wins the strap with Del Rio’s rib injury and all. If anyone on the WWE roster deserves a title run it’s Christian.

AJ/Katilyn has run it’s course. It’s time to push Naomi now, she’s the most talented diva on the roster and it’s time for her to get a shot at AJ

  • Tito Carlstrom

I’m glad Christian won for the #1 Contender. It was good that Vickie Guerrero pick Christian, RVD and Orton. Even if you people HATED her alot. At least Guerrero made the right choice by putting a triple treat match for the # 1 Contender. And you people should be happy that Christian finally won. I’m happy for Christian. He deserve to be the #1 contenter to face Del Rio. Even though I wish RVD would’ve won. But at least I’m happy for Christian that he won.

    • Razmos

You keep saying Vicie made the right choice and how she picked the triple threat match……you do know that she is an on screen character who has no say on what matches happen and that she is just acting out her lines??

  • Xaq

Can’t wait for the Sandow and Christian feud.

  • Gato Luchador

Why are you people assuming Alberto Del Rio will lose the WHC because of his broken rib? If it isn’t scripted, it doesn’t exist! In any case, I’m sure RVD will find his way back into the title picture… if that does happen, Alberto Del Rio will likely retain. If it doesn’t and Christian wins, I smell a cash-in by whomever has the briefcase in that moment (if they ever retrieve it from the sea).

  • david

it would be awesome is christian vs RVD vs ADR at summer slam for world title
