So just as everyone is still rileeng from the Chris Benoit murder-suicide that claimed the lives of his wife and son, a rival promotion is beginning a storyline starring Kurt Angle acting out verbal abuse (at the least) toward his wife and child? How very classy of TNA!Now, one can’t help but wonder: Is this an attempt by a fledgling promotion to ride the coattails of a real-life tragedy —- a sad attempt to garner either the national publicity the WWE has received since the Benoit tragedy, if not ratings via association with such a heinous act or just simply a disconnect by the bookers to the feelings and emotions of the pro wrestling fans they’re trying to attract?Given the recent loss Jeff Jarrett has experienced in his own life, it’s even more saddening to see this angle that denigrates family and family values, if only on-screen, on TNA programming.Particularly given the recent Benoit events, the timing of this angle (if not the storyline, itself) ranks alongside such disgraceful on-screen acts as the HHH/necrophilia angle and the Austin/Pillman gun incident, just to name a few; all of those did nothing but turn off viewers and fans.Additionally, what kind of performer would allow his image (be it as Olympic gold medalist or ones of the best athletes in the history of the business) to be tarnished by taking part in such an angle? What’s worse, who would involve his ACTUAL FAMILY in such a disgrace? At 4 years old, Angle’s daughter cannot decipher her father’s verbal abuse, aimed at either her or her mother, as make-believe or real-life. What kind of mental damage can such acts inflict on such a young child, one who has no business being used in a sad attempt to revive her father’s faltering career? In short, TNA should be ashamed for having conceptualized this storyline, and Kurt Angle is just as culpable for agreeing to be part of it.
