Steve Austin Says He’s Healthy Enough To Work Wrestlemania XXX

Steve Austin refused to rule out possibly working a match at Wrestlemania XXX next year in a new interview with Dave Lagreca and Doug Mortman on the “Busted Open” radio show. Below is a lengthy excerpt the show sent out:

If he’s healthy enough to work:

“Oh I’m healthy enough. My knees coming around just fine, it’s better than it’s ever been because I’ve been doing my do diligence on my rehab. I’ve got two new ligaments. Everything else is pain free. I’m still in shape been working out harder than I’ve ever worked out. But here’s the deal. When you’re gonna try to commit to do a Wrestlemania 30, you’re looking really at, at least a two to three month commitment, if not four. So you know you’re talking about, taking everything else of the table. I can still do my podcast but take everything else off the table and focus specifically on that task. To do it the way I would do it, to do it the way Stone Cold Steve Austin would do it, at a 120 percent. Because to go out there and to try to perform at 85-90 percent because you didn’t prep enough. That would be bogus, that would be BS that would be letting the crowd down. And that would be representing the Stone Cold Steve Austin that I know and love to a degree that is not acceptable. So once you throw a legitimate, real deal offer down on the table and say let’s talk, then we’ll talk. But until then, conjecture.”

If he’s up for the challenge:

“Well if I’m gonna agree to the challenge, accept it and go into it because I want to and the business makes sense, then absolutely.”

If CM Punk vs. Steve Austin could be an all-time great match:

“Oh it definitely could. It brings a lot to the table from a verbal standpoint with his well thought out promos, the way in which he conducts his business. I like his product in the ring. I like to see him turn it up more in the mainstream. I like to see a little more physicality, laying in stuff a little more. I like to see him be a little bit more aggressive. That’s just off the top of my head. Other than that, I like everything about the cat.”

How big it would be if he actually worked Wrestlemania XXX in New Orleans:

“Well I’m not going to put the cart in front of the horse. I’m not lobbying for a match. If the starts lined up, then it would happen, but it’s going to take a lot for those stars to line up. No sense in beating a dead horse. To think about it is one thing, to actually go out, come to terms and go through the business prep and actually accomplish a match, it’s a whole different ballgame and a major process.”

    One more match.

I’d rather see CM Punk wrestle Daniel Bryan at WrestleMania than Steve Austin.

These guys had their time.. It’s time to move on.

    • Xavier

I just wonder how long it would take for the people on here too turn on Austin if/when he beats Punk the way everybody on here turned on The Rock when he beat their messiah

  • Xavier

He said this last year, then he backed out because he felt Vince wouldn’t write him a big enough paycheck. If Austin comes back I hope he’s willing to put either Punk or Cena over. There’s no point in him beating any of those two guys as it does nothing long term to help the company going forward. If Austin doesn’t comeback then I would be perfectly fine with Cena/Taker, Rock/Brock & Punk/Bryan being the headliners at Mania without Austin.

    • Avalanchian

It would work with him knocking Punk off his high horse. Because the whole Best In The World thing needs to go already.

      • Xavier

I agree, if people are gonna bash Cena for “the 5 moves of doom” then I think it’s only fair that people call out for Punk for the same “1 promo of doom” he’s been cutting for the past 3 years. SES Punk from 2009-2010 was so much better then this whole Best In The World/I don’t get my respect crap that we’ve been getting from Punk the past two years.

should bring back the rattlesnake….for one more match….he still in good shape…look at the rock he came back for awhile ….look were he is….if it would be a match I think it should be stone cold vs cm punk or the great one the rock….

    • Pauluk

We’ve seen enough rock vs Austin wrestlemania matches, there would be no point in another one, cm punk or undertaker would be my choice to face Austin IF he came back.

    • John

How can you seriously compare The Rock too Stone Cold? Just look at The Rock, he is a freak athlete who is in arguably the best shape of his life.. They couldn’t be anymore different.

  • AntGilroy

Are you kidding!!!! Punk and bryan had there time in a fued!!! They will be around for awhile… CM PUNK VS AUSTIN WILL BE 4 MONTHS OF THE BEST PROMOS IN THIS INDUSTRY!

    • John

Punk vs. Bryan would be an all time WrestleMania classic! Punk vs. Austin would be terrible and anyone who thinks it wouldn’t be needs a reality check.

      • sujay

you are an total idiot………. there is room for bryan vs punk at future mania but not now… its too early for bryan….

        • John

What are you even talking about??? Daniel Bryan is the biggest thing in pro wrestling right now.. How can it be too early for him?

Austin says that he’s healthy enough to work Wrestlemania every year. At some point throughout the year, ever since he retired, Austin always says he’s healthy enough to work. The problem is that his mind isn’t willing to work. So it doesn’t matter if his body is healthy enough or not. By him just saying that, he instantly has everyone talking about him, and interested in him again. Which makes the amount of money that he would be paid go up in a big way. An Austin vs C.M. Punk match at ‘mania would be a money maker the likes of which the wrestling business has never seen. The minute Austin comes back is the same minute all of the fans from the Attitude Era that stopped watching begin tuning in again. The buyrate for Wrestlemania would be record breaking. Problem is we are NEVER going to see it! Austin and Vince will never come to terms on Austin’s payout. Throw C.M. Punk, into the negotiations and you have a deal that I would be shocked to ever see made. I just can’t imagine Vince McMahon, C.M. Punk, and S.C.S.A. ever agreeing on anything.

    • Xavier

A lot of attitude era fans came in too see Rock when he returned as well. I think Austin/Punk draws huge but I don’t think it draws bigger then what Cena/Rock did at WM28 so I’d have too disagree on it being record record breaking.
