The Gimmick Of John Laurinaitis, Heat On The Miz?, Has Raw Supershow Failed?, Hornswoggle

I love John Laurinaitis' gimmick. It may be bland, but I think he's your textbook heel. How do you feel about his character, and his "Austin-McMahon" like feud with CM Punk?

You are 100% correct about John Laurinaitis being a bland heel as this is exactly what WWE is trying to accomplish with the gimmick. I've heard people call Laurinaitis resilient as despite not having the best of relationship with Triple H and Stephanie McMahon, he's found a weekly role on television in addition to his responsibilities of running talent relations. While the full plans of the gimmick's future are not completely known the word is it will lead to something to do with the McMahon family.

Does The Miz have heat? He's been booked to look weak lately.

The Miz doesn't have any backstage heat as far as I know but they have booked him in a role that is building R-Truth back up as a babyface. I agree the booking has been questionable, especially after so much time and resources were spent on making him a top guy.

Does it seem like the Raw Supershow concept has blown up in Vince's face? The ratings have gone down and since the SmackDown superstars are being featured as well, some of the Raw superstars, namely Alex Riley as well as the Diva's division, haven't been featured as prominently?

There is certainly concern in the disturbing trend that has become more common than not of Raw Supershow losing audience as the show goes on. This was almost never the case as you could usually bank on the show growing its audience over its duration. However, to say the Raw Supershow concept has failed isn't accurate either. While the Raw Supershow rating hasn't been stellar, Smackdown's numbers have been very strong. One could easily attribute this boost to more Smackdown workers being featured on Raw thus carrying some of Monday's viewership to Friday nights. As for your concern about certain workers not being featured, Alex Riley is still getting on TV (albeit in more of an enhancement role) so that's not exactly an accurate statement either. Finally, and please excuse me for this, while I understand Riley is over and got a great initial reaction from fans I'm unsure of what the WWE audience sees in him. Being 100% honest and trying as hard as I can to act without bias, the guy could have an entire volume of botchamania dedicated to him.

What's the deal with Hornswoggle? Is he an actual wrestler or have an actual spot in WWE or is he only a TV gimmick like Teddy Long?

Hornswoggle is a performer in WWE under a Performer's Contract. While I'm not a fan of the over-the-top PG gimmick, midgets have had a very prominent part in pro wrestling's history. I have a lot of respect for Hornswoggle who is very good at his gimmick although it is not personally of interest to me.

  • Butch "The Maniac"

So Richard also watches Botchamania. Cool!

    • BollyMexCPhT

With Dusty Rhodes commentary. Man is this guy insane, but hilarious. "HE'S RIDIN' A BICYCLE!!!"

  • Da KiDD

I know this is completely unrelated to any of the questions, but it's on my mind…..Broadus Clay's new gimmick is cool and fun and all, but, ya'll gotta admit….if you watch his dancing closely, he really needs some work. He is NO WHERE NEAR the dancer that Rikishi was! Rikishi had some flavor…youtube both of them and compare. The only thing Broadus does good is 'Raise the Roof', but the girls sustain him the rest of the way.

    • BollyMexCPhT

Am glad am not the only one that notices this. Brodus Clay is unbelievable good with this gimmick. His personality makes this gimmick work. Am a big fan of his. He does seem kind of uncomfortable with the dancing, but at the same time he is trying to dance. He just needs more time with this gimmick and he will be perfect. But man is this guy gonna be a top guy in the near future some day.

  • Patrick_Peralta

I do enjoy Hornswoggle and his comedy and you are correct Richard, midgets have allways been part of wrestling weither they are doing the comedy stuff like Hornswoggle or Doink the Clown's little buddy Dink.

their is all so the Wrestlers like what you saw at Wrestlemania 3. and like the women's wrestlers they are a part of Wrestling and allways will be. the midget wrestlers I have a lot of respect for them and have seen there matches and they have been entertaining.

  • Bianca

A whole hour of Botchamania. Sorry, I'm not the biggest fan of A-Ri either, but if we're talking about botches, I think Kingston, Barrett and Sin Cara are way higher on the list than Riley and they DO get (or did in Caras case) a lot more air-time.

    • Cari

Oh please, we all know that Richard is not without bias. He is talking about botches and doesn´t mention some of the botchfests from the likes such as Daniel Bryan, Dolph Ziggler, Miz, Sheamus and MyIntyre.
As for not seeing something in him: You do realize that the WWE audience probably sees an charismatic guy (there are not many at the moment) who likes to perform for them, not like shall we say Bryan who looks like he would rather be anywhere but out there in the ring. You say Bryan is entertaining to watch in the ring, sorry but I think he´s one of the must boring dornes in the E at the moment. In-ring work is not everything in the E, this is not ROH, and it shows in the reactions certain guys/girls get.

      • Dindie101

        ^ naive

      • Eddie

No one wants E without the W!!
and daniel bryan is a good wrestler…. if there is no wrestling, the entertainment part simply won’t exist… take the top entertainers for example hhh, hbk, rock, scsa, punk, eddie guerrero, undertaker… they all had some wrestling talent because without that the entertainment factor is not enough. And what we are made to see these days is not entertainment…. cm punk’s was the one good thing happening and they screwed that too….
this one if the reasons that the attitude era was better… every other story line was interesting, every other gimmick was nice… it was just perfect.

  • sami

problem here to me is that Smackdown are getting more buy ins because of the fact that superstars appear on raw and smackdown weekly… whilst on Raw people like Cena and Kane appear only on Raw, I feel if Smackdown was also a supershow it would probably create more buy ins for monday night Raw… thats just m opinion though

    • Zach

Chances are, if you watch Smackdown, you watch Raw. Raw is their #1 brand, it is the show that gets the ratings, which creates more exposure to Smackdown. Especially with the supershow aspect.

    • You chose this PPV just so you could write about Ashley Massaro, right? I never really got all the htared for her. She does kind of look like Kaitlyn’s cool punk rawk mom though.

  • @RatedMKD

Dead right about A-Ry, Richard. He has a great look, he's over, he has possibly the most epic babyface-pop-friendly entrance theme in the company, but he just doesn't have the talent to back it up. Hopefully he'll get there eventually, but I don't want to see him brought back up to a prominent role on RAW just yet.

    • Cari

Does have the talent to back it up, my ass?! He´s more talented than that goof Ryder or the soon to be maineventer Sheamus. At least when he was on RAW the ratings weren´t going down the drain.

      • eurosario

        Is this Micheal Cole

  • luke

I like the miz, better mic skills than a lot of the superstars and his in ring ability is a good standard. if cm punk retains i would love to see a feud between these two because the promos would be emmence and if you threw r truth in there than it would have the makings of being one the best fueds of the year

  • David

Richard, do you know the lyrics to A-Ry's music? I'm not sure if you would get the joke. hahaa

    • Huh

      What's the joke?

  • Miles

And super crazy if he’s not too fat!

  • Nite

You say Alex Riley is still being featured on TV in an enhancement role? I have not seen him on Raw for several months, maybe not since early September.

    • chelu671

Riley has been competing on NXT & Superstars.

  • BigMike

Brodus is a cross between Godfather and Flash Funk but dresses like Run-DMC had a garage sale. He can move but Rikishi was a big (( but not HUGE )) guy at first who grew larger over time but kept alot of his agility Brodus is just a massive person so IMO it is hard to compare

  • Miles

Hornswaggle= longest championship rein in wrestling! Can someone please tell me how many days since he won the cruiserweight title? A title I may add that needs to come back that can offer us a different and way more entertaining style of wrestling, bring back tajiri

    • @RatedMKD

The Cruiserweight Title was deactivated on September 25th 2007 following the revelation that Hornswoggle was Mr McMahon's "son", making his title reign 65 days long. If the title was still active, he'd have been champion for about four and a half years now, which would've made it probably the third-longest title reign in WWE history (behind Bruno Sammartino's initial world title reign and the Fabulous Moolah's Women's Title reign).

I would love to see the return of both Tajiri and that title, though!

    • the arbiter

I think he still has decades left to beat Moolah on the longest reign record

      • Miles

Haha cheers for that, couldn’t remember how long ago that was

  • Hazmatt23

You can’t powerbomb Kidman and you can’t gutwrench Riley. I really hope someone remembers you can’t powerbomb Kidman.

  • Paul

I hate John Laurinaitis, I get he is a heel but i genuinely can’t stand how boring he is.

I think they should split up raw and smackdown again both the shows and the ppvs (except the big ones Rumble, Mania, Summerslam and Survivor Series.) it allows them to push new talent.

Hornswoggle is not a competitor and makes genuine talent look weak.

  • Jbreed

Hornswoggle has no business being in the WWE but to his credit he's not the worst character in the WWE right now. The honor goes to Santino Marella.

    • the arbiter

At least they have a character…. unlike many of the NXT characters

    • brada 619

santino sux he should get kicked out of da wwe and go to tna jus like all da other suky people like storm or hardy

  • Judy

I would like to know if taker will be in Mania this year or not?

    • brada 619

i know me too heʻs good

  • brada 619

dont leave hornswaggler out heʻs like the best one just becouse heʻs small dosent mean he cant scrap like me im small and i can scrap

  • brada 619

we da wwe nation should get free paper view!!!!!!!

  • Adam

I believe we have a troll lurking around these neck of the woods.
